well, to be honest, im a bit worried about nokia new pr strategy. take the htc event. That was aggressuve. might get a few "yeah, show them whos boss, nokia" cheers from morons, but thats not the finnish attitude we expect from nokia. Now they are technically lying to customers. Maybe they hired a steve wannabe to replace annski.
Nokia N8 is delayed by 3 weeks. I would not have had any problem had Nokia relieved the truth. But they said that its on schedule. A company which can lie now can do it again after we buy the phones. If it turns out to be true that the N8 is delayed than I would not buy a Nokia phone for at least 10 years. Nokia lover please reply to me by saying ' go to ish*t or Samsung forum' because ultimately you will end up saying this to every one and that is what I want now.
hi all how is every think
it is a great phone
Hey guys, just a small questions. One of the reasons I want to get the N8 is that I want to read e-books through it. Do u think that a 3.5" screen is sufficient for comfortable reading? I had a N95-8GB which had a 2.8" screen and it was uncomfortable reading ebooks cuz I had to scroll left and right all the time if I wanted the text to be readable.
btw the announced release date in Ukraine is 4th of October by an authorized Nokia dealer!
ive got some dumb questions guys, hope someone will answer them. First, will the n8 run all the apps ive downloaded for my 5800(s^1)? I know it has avkon library , but doesnt the single tap procedure mean app ui needs to be modified? Will all the apps require a qt rewrite? Or will they run from day1?
Second, if the battery is non removable, how will the forced reboot fairy save my hanged phone? Is there some hardcoded procedure for that?
Third, is it true it doesnt have stereo speakers? Might be a deal breaker for me.
Last dumb question, i use a transparent plastic sticker thingy to protect my 5800's display, the sensitivity of the screen takes a hit, fair trade for a unscratched screen. But the n8 has capacitive screen, wont plastic covers block the eletricity from my hands?
These are only nags i have about this handset. Apple is cool, android is hip, but symbian and nokia are reliable, and thats what matters to me.
the photo editing and also the video editor which is being created by a company called film frames productins i think(they did clash of the titans/where the wild things are special effects!!!) is aaaaamazing!!! cannot wait till 22nd october!!! :)

Oh, both the C6-01 and C7 did have a SD-slot, well, the difference gets even smaller, but I still find the N8 worth the money compared to these models.
Nuwan, 27 Sep 2010Dear Wheez, I often read your comments and those are really really interesting to read.. I ... moreAlso, you were wondering whether the N8 will be popular with the same kind of devices for cheaper coming out. At least the moment it is. Demand has exceeded the planned supply by quite abit, so at least Nokia was surprised by the popularity of this thing.
Nuwan, 27 Sep 2010Dear Wheez,
I often read your comments and those are really really interesting to read.. I ... moreThank you for your kind words, and what you describe there is the way I try to write here: I don't mind loving Nokia and the N8 and I even work(ed) there, but I still try to stay as open and unbiased as possibly and openly bring up my possible biasness so people know to evaluate what I say themselves.
You had quite abit of questions there, luckily, I have a boring philosophy lesson at the moment so I guess I'll start breaking it down to parts.
Personally the N8 is abit overkill for me too, I don't need a camera like that, but I absolutely love the looks and the design so much, that I can't really even consider the C6-01 or C7. I would rather stick with my old E65 than buy either of those. The camera is just about the only feature I would make a trade off in the N8, giving stuff like USB OTG isnt a possibility for me, really. I might consider if there was a something very similar in look/shape but just abit less features, but I'm not willing to go for C6/C7 looks :D
The Nokia CBD is pretty much a basic AMOELD screen like in N8, but it has an extra layer in it that makes it abit thicker, but it helps seeing the screen in unideal lighting (direct sunlight for example) alot!
Personally I'm ready to pay the extra for the look and design and materials and the color options as well as the features (like the cheaper models have some mix and match of N8s features, but none seems to has all the same and just trade off in material/design). Also personally I'm trying to be far sighted, stuff like SD-slot for example is gonna help alot in the future, not having one would probably limit the device awfully in the future. I dont think the C6 or C7 has a resistive screen, but thats one thing I wont even consider after tyring the N8s capacitive screen.
As for the same kind of hardware on many models, there's a simple reason like that. Nokia is by far the biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world, they make and sell huge volumes. They probably save money when they order a huge shipment of the same hardware which they can use on many devices, which they use for 1-2 years in most of the equal kind of devices. Also having lots of different hardware might make different kind of requirements for the machines/people who assemble the phones, which may waste time and money and machinery to be installing 4 different kind of modules when you could be installing just one. Also as you said, software/OS performs differently on different modules. I'ev played a game that ran like a dream on nVidia gfx cards but ran unplayably with ATI cards even if they were specwise the same.
It's not really lazyness, it's just efficient, and those Samsung fanboys can shut up, they've been using the same CPU for a good while now too :D
Dear Wheez,
I often read your comments and those are really really interesting to read.. I learned many things from you as you always line up things with an unbiased mind... (I mean as possible... Because it's obvious that you like N8.. However you have taken care that you don't spoil your posts because you like this mobile...) So for any person who likes or dislike Nokia N8, there are things to grab from Mr. Wheez's comments..
Well... Back to my point... I also really like this mobile.. Not only because of its extraordinary camera.. But also because of the features like 'USB On the Go' and 'Symbian 3' (Though there are so many Symbian haters here, as a Person who's in love with Symbian, my next mobile will always be another Symbian... That's for sure...)
However after the introduction of the next Symbian 3 mobiles from Nokia (C7 and C6-01) I'm again in a dilemma whether to go for this very expensive N8 or just buy a budget mobile like C6-01... (Actually all I want is a mobile with Great Music Quality, Symbian OS, Decent Camera - it doesn't have to be an extraordinary camera, GPS and high speed 3G with video calling, Decent battery, Pretty sexy look.. Plus, that mobile should be Nokia... Ha ha... My personal preference...)
Only two things I hate about C6-01 are, lesser battery capacity, higher thickness... (it's 13.9 thick... damn it.. The current mobile I'm using is 5530 and it's damn sexy... and it's only 12.9 mm... I hate to move from 12.9 to 13.9 which is kind of backward to me...!)
However the features like USB on the Go, Wifi b/g/n, great Nokia clear black display with AMOLED capacitive screen are turning me on...! Actually C7 has all I want but I don't like its oval shape.. (thickness is great though...)
I want to know more about this 'Nokia clear black display' which N8 doesn't have while C7 and C6-01 have... and do you really think N8 will be that popular specially when buyers have very competitive and considerably cheap alternatives like C7 and C6-01...? I don't think people will be pleased to pay more 200 Dollars just to jump from 8 MP camera to 12 MP camera and for HDMI & aluminum casing...! I want your opinion on above...
One thing more... I have seen Nokia produces a set of mobiles which has almost same hardware configuration with slight changes in design and some features.. (Eg: 5800, C6, X6, 5530, 5230, 5233, N97 all has same processor, same screen resolution, same RAM etc...) Now the same theory applies to N8, C7 and C6-01 too... What do you think as the reason...? Is it just because they (Nokia people) are lazy on new things as so many Samsung fan boys are shouting about...? Or is it because of their own comfort on using the same configuration...? (Even same old housing for 5800, 5230 and 5233 proves this matter...) or else is it after concerning so many facts like software compatibility etc...?
I want your opinion on that too.. (I'm asking you because you're a Finland person and moreover you've worked in a Nokia factory too..)
Wheez, 27 Sep 2010With those priorities, you might be better off with the iPhone, if you can just live with the ... moreAnd the limitations would be mainly the following:
Main disadvantages of iPhone 4
- Hardware design is prone to reception issues
- MicroSIM card support only
- No Flash support in the web browser
- No true multitasking for all applications
- FaceTime video calls work only over Wi-Fi
- No file transfer over Bluetooth or USB Mass
Storage mode
- No hardware shutter key for the camera
- No FM radio
- No stereo speakers
- No microSD card slot
- No smart dialing
- Too dependent on iTunes for loading
multimedia content
- Poor loudspeaker performance
it acually can have up to 48gb of storage memory. internal memory of 16gb and expanable additional memory of 32gb......
[deleted post]With those priorities, you might be better off with the iPhone, if you can just live with the restricted nature of it and lack of "real" features.
The important funtion i want in phone is the ability to work as notebook, it almost replace the notebook hence i can not too depend on my computer for everything
My friend has the SE Satio which has the 256 MB RAM and I didn't expirience any lags in its w0rkings...
Ooh just had the iPhone 4 in ma hand now n0w... Stiff c0mpetition must say. Though I felt the browser could have been a bit faster. But I really liked its gl0ssy finish!
But the N8 is stil 4 me!
i've used nokia for like 5yrs, its the first time, i've had a question to look for other brands, hope the symbian 3 keeps me anchored for nokia....
I guess this mobile is a cool one, its got good screen, good looks and an awesome camera, memory is great too...
This one has quite good competition though, samsung's are on a rise, htc is got with desire coming up, and i-phone takes the styling part to the whole new level..
Nokia needs to work on its touch ui for sure, leave apple apart, htc's touch ui is just great to handle, plus android os works quite interestingly. Android too has a rapidly growing soft market...
I hope nokia gets it all right with the symbian ^3 os.. Better screen resolutions, touch ui and a faster processor is all u need to drive nokia to its former glory.
sayargyi, 27 Sep 2010Wht's the different bet N8 and iphone4? Are there so many developers for N8? Is that phone can... moreMost likely the iphone will be better for gaming but the n8 can and will win in many other aspects
