Sorry nokia I could not wait any longer I went out today and bought a phone. It should have been the N8 but too many delays I could not wait any longer. I needed a phone since last month. bye. If this is how you do business in such a competitive market then good luck. HTC just announced two new phones which will be realesed in one month time. take note Nokia. you announce then realese you dont announce then delay then delay then delay then release.
Just recieved my email from Nokia about the N8 an they say i should recieve it a few weeks into October not September, but i hope it early October not the last week into October,as its been so annoying waiting to see an use the N8,we keep getting loads of videos showing off the N8,buts its the Publics views an comments you want to read, because all they are doing is making any mobile by video look o.k,but you then get the mobile an its not as good as they are showing like the N97 just shows you,Still no Reviews seen on the Internet about finished N8,but just seen a nice video on You Tube an the Lady didn"t seem to like the new Symbian3 software but the N8 looked really fast on some occasions

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2010can't we use offline nav with other phones! or it's payable service? Most seem to require a connection of some kind, but even if you had an offline GPS satnav in it, the usage/software usually costs something.

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2010n8 is going to b the greatest failure ever.so much of price only for 12 mp camera, usb otg,hdmi... moreYes, but the other smartphones aint much/any cheaper not to mention they are usually made out of plastic too.
You forgot at least free offline navigation, too.
And well, nothing is stopping you from buying the other smartphones, currently though demand is grossly exceeding supply on the N8 and you can see that from GSMArena too, has any phone ever had over 5,2 mil hits before it's release? iPhone 4 still does not have that..
n8 is going to b the greatest failure ever.so much of price only for 12 mp camera, usb otg, hdmi n fm transmitter?every other feature is either less or equal to other smartphones.if it would priced around 22-24 k then it would have a chance bt now tata bye bye n8.
Not bad, in Indonesia its pre-order price is USD 553. But available in dark grey only, oh but there's one nice addition though, Nokia BH-905 bluetooth stereo included :)
I wonder if the retail price will be cheaper? Any idea guys?
[deleted post]You know, desird hd made me think twice too. Maybe it won't hurt to try something new. What i'm worrying is, what if i can't do the things i'm able to do with symbian? Like free internet through ip servers. And htc is hard to find in the philippines. Pretty expensive too.
[deleted post]Good luck with your new device ! Do share with us how it treats you ! :) And don't be so sure about selling it for meego. Well you might, but from personal experience, I can tell you that Android can grow on you. :) Tc.
Matt, 24 Sep 2010I think the most of your money will go to the slimness of the device
amazing how they could... moreYeah, personally I don't care about the other models than N8, I have very little to no use for a QWERTY and it makes more limitations hardware wise when the phone is cut in half.
N8 is just about perfect for me.
HTCs are good devices, biggest downside seems to be the bad battery life that is a byproduct of the good specs and Android that is still going through the baby steps and optimization. Also for me the looks/materials/shape/color/boringness of just about any Android phone (or well, any phone currently but the N8) already breaks the deal for me.
As I've said before, I wouldn't be buying any smartphone (don't own one currently, Nokia E65 atm) if it wouldnt be for the N8 and how it instantly made me fall in love with it when I first used one few months back.

amazing how they could fit a 4" screen + qwerty keyboard in such a relatively small and thin casing
look at other qwerty slider phones, there bulky like my adorable granny :D
Wheez, 24 Sep 2010Yeah, you guys are right, messed it up with C7, although I was 99% certain it was exactly E7 a... moreE series has a better reputation that n series. Maybe they're using that reputation to increase the price. And did they just announced e7 to be their flagship device. And e7 is also dubbed as the e90 successor.
So it's back to being expensive again. I knew it! Tsktsk... XD i'll just wait on the day it'll be announced here on phil. And hope till then, that 495euros has only 5euro tax to make it 500 :)
Matt, 24 Sep 2010Owned a psp, loved it, sold it because I didn't play on it
Owned a second psp, loved it, sold... moreTransition effects helps the OS to look smooth. Symbian as usual, is wait, then pop. Unlike other OS, which gives animations in between the waiting period. Maybe, it's because symbian is not yet constructed to have that feature, or processor is not enough, or nokia doesn't find adding animations necessary, except on the cover flow album, which is quite hard to understand.
The makings of symbian 4, however, proves that symbian is heading that way too. They finally realize that functionality is sometimes not enough. Especially for the market they are targeting which includes a lot of people who finds satisfaction on android and iOS. Putting effort on UI is not a bad thing.

-usb on the go
-not HDMI because I don't think I would ever use it
-Symbian's possibilities
-12MP I will NOT miss, the size of the sensor though I will as-well as the xenon flash though I'm getting 2xLED instead so not really too bad
-sturdiness
-and the most of all, I will miss Ovi maps
if the N8 would be 300 euros with an 8mp camera (same sensor size, also Carl Zeiss) I would buy it. But frankly 480 euro's for a device that's not at all a flagship is too much. I can't imagine what they're going to ask for their MeeGo phone then, like 800 euros??

Although I could understand it being cheaper, it's supposed to lack a fair amount of features cos it's "only" E-series, but I guess the QWERTY does something to the price as well..
hayato, 24 Sep 2010Or maybe it's the c7 you're talking about. I checked the europe nokia site and seen that c7 an... moreNo way Wheez is talking about the E7. If there's anyone here who should know that it's gonna be more expensive than the N8 it should be him
I think the E7's price without taxes was gonna be around 500 euro's (unofficially) so count on a 650 euros price tag
I'm a real Nokia fanboy. I have always loved Symbian ever since the first time I used it on a Nokia 7650. I was looking forward to the N8 so much, but now I have given up the wait. The (in my opinion!!) reasons why are these:
-Nokia doesn't give the impression to acknowledge that they need to step up their game (an N8 of E7 alone will NOT be enough) and they didn't even mention MeeGo at Nokia World, total disappointment
-Off course, the continuous delays
-What's Nokia's flagship phone now? Nobody knows, do they even have one?
-they announce the N8, lot of people fall in love with it and then even before it is released, they announce another phone with some specs the N8 should have had! The N8 really starts to lose it's top of the (nokia) line name (simple AMOLED, quite thick phone,no eye candy)
-and a lot more
