andy burgin, 12 Sep 20102 days for the London Event an we will finally hope to see the N8 displayed an view the final ... moreThe latest software is feeling really good already, but they still have like a week after the event to still tweak the software before shipping the phones around.
Also, cos of the nature of these things, they can provide a software update on the first day it's out. I don't understand why people see having updates bad, even on the first day. Some changes can't make it into the boxes in releases and the phone will most likely work just fine even without the most recent update, but I've seen people complain just cos companies deploy patches on the first day it's out.
I call that good service and ongoing development.
Wheez, 12 Sep 2010The processor is considerably slower than it's competitors, but don't forget that the N8 has a... moreFor the record, about N97 that was a big flop, it was mainly due to too low RAM, and now people are complaining at its still not enough. For comparison, I was told that a N97 after a bootup had like 15-30 mb RAM free.
So comparing that to the 128mb+ free RAM after bootup the N8 has, there won't be much of a problem.
2 days for the London Event an we will finally hope to see the N8 displayed an view the final software, hope Nokia do suprise us with some other mobiles for the near future, hope the N8 is really fast an just hope it is going to be a really Top Class Smartphone
duel, 12 Sep 2010i think the bigger problem is very old processor
but yes others have 512MBThe processor is considerably slower than it's competitors, but don't forget that the N8 has a dedicated GPU that most of it's competitors lack. In every day use, that'll equal out to at least having only a 1ghz processor. Naturally though, in a sandbox environment the 1ghz will still process faster, but as running the OS takes a big chunk of the resources, in reality its abit different.
Nokia N8s dedicated GPU will be taking like half the strain off the CPU in running the OS and other visual stuff like in games, etc.
As for slowness in loading speed for the NFS: Shift, it could come down from these things, Id figure loading the game up can mainly utilize the processor only and not really the GPU, as for general slowness in some videos, they are also beta software while you are comparing it to released products.
As for the RAM, Symbian being so light that it's easily sufficient. After bootup there's over 128mb RAM left solely for applications and other things, and even with real multitasking of the N8 (so not just freezing them like iPhone), I think I was told that at 75 apps running in the background at the same time, it ran out of memory.
So the RAM is sufficient.
Anonymous, 12 Sep 2010what ram????
n8 has 256mb+virtual memoryi think the bigger problem is very old processor
but yes others have 512MB
I can say, I quite dissapoint with Nokia nowaday...
It has being the market leader for so many years, but the lagging, the ram never improve and Nokia is far behind others
watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok4LaIt-wSc nfs shift with different iphones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD_Y2UX_jBg same on N8 (game starts halfway on that video)
Interesting loading time comparison, if you compare that last loading window, it takes huge time with n8, even about 10 seconds longer than two years old iphone 3g
N8 load that game 35 seconds, that's long time!!! iphone 4 takes 5 sec, iphone 3gs 8 sec and even 3g takes about 22 second.
That's very interesting
here is also same game on galaxy s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpQyfbLLyHQ takes about 10 sec
Could N8 really be that SLOW?
The browser was disappoinment too, it was laggy with just only one flash animation.
"Nokia answer team: With the Nokia N8, you can move large files conveniently with USB on-the-go to memory stick or compatible hard drive and further to PC, ready to upload into video sharing web services.
If the hard drive needs more than 200mAh power, it needs to have an external power supply."
AMANITA, 12 Sep 2010Nothing is impossible if u try ! But for now,symbian^3 is good enough for me :pyes u r right Nothing is impossible :).

What u say ?
n8 is obvious bettr than a galaxy o wave....
samsung is useless....neither they have ovi music
Yeah you are correct n8 it has 12MP with xenon flash but ¡°no videolights¡± The LCD is amoled but my question is not brghter than samsung jet, omnia, pixon is contains also AMOLED. anyone explain what kind of nokia LCD Amoled use? Nokia Amoled is not expected brghter than samsung jet, pixon, ominia is amoled but is very brghter and clear resolution. i think nokia still using low quality amoled resolution to n8. so i recommend to wait e7 or n9 superamoled,snapdragon,1ghz processor, meego. the great important in multmedia phone is brighter resolution, high processor.
chester, 12 Sep 2010is it possible to port meego into n8?Nothing is impossible if u try ! But for now,symbian^3 is good enough for me :p
