i work for a cellphone company and a nokia rep came by and was nice enough to show a prototype. it was really nice, physically, that is. I wasn't able to play around with the phone too much as he wasn't even supposed to show it around :p

Well finally after months of waiting, its official. Nokia N8 comes to UK in last week of September for pre-orders or all UK shops on October 1st for £429 sim free or for free on all major UK networks on £35 a month tariffs.

At last, an official date for Nokia's N8 flagship Symbian^3 handset. This one's been a long time coming, featuring the first of two major Symbian updates meant to bring Nokia's smartphone division in line with the competition. Look for it in the "last week of September" at Nokia's on-line shops for £429 SIM free, or free with £35 per month contract. Otherwise, it'll hit the UK high street shops on October 1st. It's still not really a mature OS, I think it's been reported that even idle it sucks shitloads of battery. It's helluva lot heavier than Symbian.
It's not bad, but it's not godlike either. I'd prefer Symbian myself.

Cos they probably weren't supposed to announce it so early, but they were "forced" to cos of that Eldar guy publishing a review of a prototype, so probably that's why so long time between announcement and release.
