Alot easier on the machine than rendering the whole page again in different size till you are done. It's not like you would be reading the page WHILE zooming in/out
guys samsung has a new model released this september SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB with 7"11 inches LCD.. very cute and awesome than nokia n8 very too long of releasing date. samsung every month has a new model released. goodluck nokia.
I'm excited for N8! The Greenbelt Nokia Center Salesman just confirmed the arrival of N8 on September 30 here in the Philippines. :) Yey!
I'm just a lil bit worried about the pinch to zoom problem that shows the checkered grey and white in browsing the net. But I know Nokia delayed N8 for REASONS! to improve N8 so it can deliver the best user experience.
hayato, 04 Sep 2010Thanks to those who replied. And as i mentioned previously, i'm asking for the document editor... moreas for the document editor its there in n8 u can refer "nokias official website>n8 features/specifications" its mentioned there.
MeeGo is a Linux-based open source mobile operating system project[1] which was announced at Mobile World Congress in February 2010 by Intel and Nokia in a joint press conference. Its aim is to merge the efforts of Intel on Moblin and of Nokia on Maemo into one project. It is hosted by the Linux Foundation.[2] According to Intel, MeeGo was developed because Microsoft did not offer comprehensive Windows 7 support for the Atom processor.[3]
Harmattan, originally slated to become Maemo 6, is now considered to be a MeeGo instance (though not a MeeGo product), and Nokia is giving up the Maemo branding for Harmattan and beyond (Maemo 5, aka Fremantle, and previous versions will still be referred to as Maemo).[

My internet is too damn slow! 2-3kbps, can't believe it! The gaming video i referred to was played on samsung wave btw. The n8 gaming, as the promotional video showed, is outstanding compared to other mobiles. Just want to see it live, i guess :s
"a diagonal of either too steep or too gradual or plunging[?] angle looks like a staircase" - what i mean, sorry for my crappy english. I'm just learning these new words right now. :)
Also, I think the "stairs" are rather an issue of anti-aliasing that might not have been implemented yet for the game/phone at that software build you were watching. Even on some modern PC games, turning anti-aliasing on/off will have a huge impact on the performance, so it could be that it's abit too much to handle for the phone to have it on.
Go figure.
hayato, 04 Sep 2010Thanks to those who replied. And as i mentioned previously, i'm asking for the document editor... moreOh, sorry for misunderstanding, can't really answer the question you really asked, though.
As far as I know, Nokia at least will not support upgrading the OS later on to Symbian^4 or anything else, but it might be doable anyways (I know people have installed Androids on their Symbian devices etc).
Can't really answer the 3D acceleration for gaming, as it doesn't really appeal to me in the first place. For me the biggest thing about the dedicated GPU is that it takes alot of the strain away from CPU, allowing for a lesser CPU and just generally speaking smoother media.
Thanks to those who replied. And as i mentioned previously, i'm asking for the document editor, not the video editor. Is it completely free?
About the accelorometer, what i'm trying to say is that the background of the home screen looks like theres a liquid inside that moves depending to which angle you tilt your phone(sorry for the word 'rotate', i think maybe that's the cause of misunderstanding). It is only available on the orange and blue theme for the n8 variant of the corresponding colour. I really think it's cool. But what i really meant to ask is if it's just a live wallpaper or a new feature added to the new symbian ^3 themes, live home screen, i guess? However, it's really good that a new point about holding the phone upside down is created, and well, explained and cleared.
Another question, is symbian ^3 upgradable to symbian ^4 or any future version of the symbian OS?
GPU claims to handle 3d graphics. And on a 3d game played on n8, a diagonal of almost straight angle would look a real diagonal, not a staircase. Am i right? I think it's so cool! I watched a video of wave playing asphalt 4? Or 5? But aside from it's vibrant colours, nothing really changed. Diagonals and curves still look like stairs. I hope gaming on n8 will bring a better experience.
Getting more and more excited each day XD. But still i'll wait for a gsmarena's review and real user opinions before i decide to spend my cash on this phone. XP

I asked nokia dealer of India (m.p) and he said that it well be avalible from october only :(
what happen to N8, nokia N8 first released in singapore this week, and other countries start releasing is by january2010... is too long.. what the hell nokia doing this...
nmg, 04 Sep 2010I like the N8, but i do think its to little to late. Apple, Adroid and RIM are stealing the... morefrom what u say nmg i feel that nokia is better than everything else as it is providing all the facilities available with its different competitors in one device as apple has applications but lacks on camera etc. android has satnav but lacks on other fronts similarly RIM has pushmail but lacks on applications etc. so what nokia is doing is its already strong on other fronts and now accpeting changes or innovations made by other competitors too and to say its not innovative is completely wrong there r several examples showing nokias thurst for doing smthng new take it USB-OTG or to say the new meego platform being launched with intel.
