I can't wait to buy this phone!
It's the logical step after my N82...
Here is what it cost in USA, straight from my pre-order:
Delivery cost: $9.99 (1-2 day delivery)
Delivery discount: $0.00
Sales tax: $51.70
Order total: $610.69
Has anyone found a good cover/case for the n8? The n8 does NOT come with a case. For the price you would think it would???? Oh well.
This is the one I'm looking at so far:
One of the reasons Android has become so popoular is become the manufacturers have taken it and skinned it with their Sense, Wiz etc....It makes the interface look better to a bigger audience. Theres no question in my mind that if they didn't skin it, the mass market would not give a crap about Android. It would be labled just as another iPhone Knockoff. But HTC, Samsung and the carriers were ingenius in taking the stock OS and prettying it up so it would appeal to the biggest audience possible.
Why hasn't Nokia done that? The biggest knock about The Symbian Interface is thats it's old as the hills. It's boring and ugly.
I'm surprised that Nokia hasn't taken or produced something like SPB Mobile Shell and integrated itno the OS in order to increase the Eye Candy & WOW factors.
guys,i hv spoken to the staff at nokia in singapore today and they said it will be out only in 2nd week as their training for n8 is on the sept2.n it will take 1 or 2 weeks b4 release.
As for US sales, I guess its whether some carrier takes on the phone. Although the whole subsidy-thing is retarded and most fail to realize how much more expensive it ends you, but if thats what sell phones, by all means do it.
Dwane, 22 Aug 2010What makes u so sure it wont b released 26th aug? And what do u think the release date will be... moreThe fact that the date was set by a 3rd party (that russian Eldar fella), never confirmed by Nokia and that currently the Nokia Finlands online shop says "end of september".
Considering that Salo, Finland will be the factory they will be manufactured in for european and close-to-europe markets and the fact that Finnish customers will have they phones first, I highly doubt it.
US and Asian markets gets the N8s from China, but I think the N8 as a whole is waiting on software, so the date is likely to get earlier, but 99% certain that not august 26th.
This phone will sell great around the world. Everyone knows that. But for Nokias sake I hope it does well in the U.S. It doesn't have to set sales records. It just needs to get on the map and show itself as a worthy competitor and get some pub for something other than the same old negatives.
I'm not trying to alienate or belittle my friends around the world, but the U.S Market is ultra important. And it's not just important for the financial bottom line. It's important for the prestige and publicity factors which ultimately expands the bottom line.
If Nokia in the future truly wants to compete against the HTC's, Apples etc....it has to show up in the U.S. more sooner than later.
The U.S Tech Websites and blogs have their noses so far up the rears of Google and Apple that its nauseating. Apple & Android are good, but they aren't as good as everyone claims. Each has its fair share of holes and issues. But if you read the crapola thats out there, you'd think both came straight from heaven.
The ball is in Nokia's Court

this would be the next powerful symbian smartphone after n95 and e71.
The long wait is finally over and the first official app by DivX for Symbian devices is out and ready to support Symbian both S60 3rd edition and 5th edition in the 1.0 version. So you can now finally enjoy your DivX movies in your pocket especially on your Nokia S60v5 devices.
Anyways, I was able to play an .avi file in my Nokia 5800 but not so smooth in start. You could just play divx files with a screen resolution not exceeding your phone’s screen resolution. The maximum screen resolution of some Nokia Symbian 5th edition devices is 640 x 360, not sure with S60v3 though, and most .avi files are on this resolution so converting will not make you more nuts on this. Just transfer the files and play, done!
“ATTENTION: We have released a new 1.0 version for Symbian S60 3rd and 5th edition phones.
Even if your phone isn’t officially DivX Certified, you may still be able to watch DivX® videos by downloading and installing the DivX Mobile Player.
Find out below if your phone supports the DivX Mobile Player and follow the link to download according to your phone’s operating system.
DivX Mobile Player 1.0 is beta software available for a limited time only and will expire.
For the older 0.94 release, please scroll down to the bottom of the page.
If you are reading this page from your mobile phone, try using the Mobile website instead.”
The sound quality is what I should praise for because I was able to hear crisp audio output. As well as the interface of the application. You can download the application for free to download.

I want a 12mp camera for 'close up' shots from a distance. Absolutely nothing beats the camera in a N8. I will get mine in october for my birth day :-)
