Optical zoom is completely useless in stills. When you zoom a 12pixel camera 2x, you are left with an effective resolution of 3mp. Why not just take the photo and crop it later?
Its a different story for videos though as 720p video resolution is less than 3mp hence the n8 has about 2.5x digital zoom.

RONALD, 23 Aug 2010;( bad news n8 has only 2x zoom in still photography.digital zoom is useless, its only for newbies, digital zoom is actually just cropping your picture and stretching it, loosing details in result, ill just get closer to the subject that i want to take a picture if i were you, that way you wont loose details, if you know what im talking about, optical zoom is a different story.

Anonymous, 23 Aug 2010thats not bad news they make only zoom that much because anymore and the photo will not be clear.Bhai Digital Zoom Only For Making Fool. Samsung Started It and Now Unaware people are so much confused by the term digital zoom its nothing.

nick, 22 Aug 2010this phone is running a dying operating system. i cant see any reason to buy it over, say, ... moreWe are waiting for this phone just because of the operating system! We are waiting because its a complete phone....nokia doesnt go half way with features....like apple does and they don't make boring devices like HTC does.... no phone is perfect but the NSeries is the closest you will get!!

this phone is running a dying operating system.
i cant see any reason to buy it over, say, an htc desire or anything, unless you REALLY want the camera.

I don't care about the hype surrounding this device. I just hope this phone does what it says it can do right out of the gate instead of immediately needing firmware updates & patches as soon as you take it out of the box.
Nokia really needs a unit that performs as it claims it will. It's all about credibility.
As long as it performs as advertised, I can't /won't complain.
