SidewindeR, 10 Aug 2010LED video light is really not a dealbreaker for me... I'd prefer xenon any day over the LED ... moreThere are moments when people need to shoot a video in the dark regardless the quality of the video, and keeping a pocket torch in your pocket all the time is not a smart act, one day or another you will come across a situation that will make you wish if your phone supports LED flash.

i agree that n8 looks good but the main focus is the camera.i have seen some sample photos of n8 and to be honest i was not impressed due to high amount of noise in the pics.lets hope nokia optimize the camera more and really impress us with shiny and vivid pics.

I'd prefer xenon any day over the LED even if it comes with a Luxor ultrabright LED.
LED light always has that yellow tint which doesn't make it feel natural to the eyes as the xenon. If video light is that kind of an issue, you can easily get a cheap pocketable LED torch which will serve the same purpose. If you insist on quality, you won't think about shooting videos in the dark in the first place.

I Just heard that the Nokia N8-01 will look the same as this N8, but it will pack 1GHz Intel processor, 512mb RAM, 32 or 64 GB harddrives, FULL HD 1080P video recording and will be available in two new colours, White and Red. I am not sure if it will have the infamous Symbian ^3, but I am hoping the N8-01 will be the "cheapest" cell-phone to feature MeeGo. Thumbs crossed! It will come out beggining of next year, after the first MeeGo device is launched. Oh, and there will be a VERY expensive GOLD edition(Plated in either rose, white or yellow gold) and possibly a diamond edition. This will happen most probably because the next "8800" device is still under Heavy development as it will not only be expensive for its materials, but also because of its technology(Kept a secret for now)that is being still being tested. The N8-01 will be priced at a premium for about $700+-. My sources are reliable and I am not lieing or joking.

In fact, the Nokia N8 has excellent battery life compared to its rivals. And about that comment on video light...:

"There is a red LED by the side of the xenon flash, it’s used exclusively for auto focus assist. There is no separate LED for video usage. Some important points: The only way you are going to get sufficient illumination from LED’s over a usable distance available today would be if you had a dual LED. Single LED just is not going to provide any benefit, it would have been a tickbox solution and nothing more than that.We simply didn’t have the space for the Dual LED as well as Xenon, the area around the camera is really packed!" As qouted by Damian Dinning. Hope this makes you think twice about buying a Nokia N8.

N8 does not look premium with those lipstick colors...y dont nokia just give some chrome metallic color or aluminum alloy body...And best feature is USB tethering and Camera....remaining all r there even in Omnia HD which came 1.5 years ago

efore I begin with the preview of the N8, here's a quick rundown of all the important features that the handset has:

12 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss 28mm wide-angle lens, xenon flash, mechanical shutter, variable aperture and 1/1.83" sensor
                                    Anodized aluminum body
                                    3.5", 640 x 360 pixel AMOLED display
16GB built-in memory (further expandable by 16GB through microSD cards)
HDMI-out with 5.1 channel Dolby Digital Plus surround sound audio
USB On-the-Go feature for connecting any portable USB memory device directly to the phone
High definition, 1280 x 720 video recording with dedicated microphone and stereo audio
                                    Quint-band 3G connectivity; Wi-Fi 802.11n; Bluetooth 3.0
                                    Symbian ^3 operating system

That does look like quite a formidable feature list. So now let us get on with the preview of the handset. (Note: The devices we used at the event were all prototypes and hence were not functioning perfectly. This is why we were also not allowed to take any camera samples from the device.)

Th progression & development of battery technology will always be slowed down because of the developments in low energy power switching circuitry electronics. Also how the consumer uses their device, it's hardware & the software to their advantage of using less energy will make the difference by not using things they don't need.

There is an eco system for R&D electronics engineers to integrate into their devices controls for software developers to allow modern technologies to switch into a very low power idle state mode when not used, so that it's basically switched off. BT30 does this but not enough. BT4.0 will conserve battery lie even more. Newer CPU's memory also do. The electronics circuitry itself also helps.

No matter how much I think of how much the electronics industry tries to put into the R&D development for lower energy devices - I still don't think they are doing enough or being serious enough to progress battery life. Alternative energy technologies are problem but always seem to keep slowly loosing sight & pace. More needs to be invested here in this sector of the industry I feel
