Symbian is no for the spoon-fed masses. Symbian is actually more complicated and powerful than anyone would normally think of. Just look at application platforms supported in symbian. Java, SIS, Qt, Python, Flash, Silverlight, the list just goes on. And each of them is powerful in its own way...
Symbian can work much faster and more efficiently than we think of. I wouldn't believe it either until I modded my phone and was astonished to see the difference in performance.
No other OS has more customisation possibilities than symbian. It even extends to the OS level...If the UI looks ugly, there are a lot of alternatives with even infinite homescreens. But I still prefer the Nokia default UI as it is much more user friendly and I prefer functionality over appearance.
Such a great phone... but unfortunately by the time its released (looks like October as of now), there will most likely be plenty of even better phones available. Wish they'd release it sooner like next month
Good idea for developers to change N8 UI: get 5 home screen, screen #1 cannot fast change to screen #5. Just change by 12345.. 54321. Screen #3 is original with clock, calendar, date...
Anonymous, 22 Jul 2010I have no comment on the UI. It's about personal preferences. I personally think N8's UI is qu... moreyeah, im just stuck between
, N8 and N9... if all goes well and N9 have the same cam as the N8,then im happy, hopefully it wont cost a fortune either XD
but knowing Nokia,i rrly doubt...however times have changed.. we'll c:P
[deleted post]Your link looks weird.
Like some fake link to cheat people.
I do not dare to try.
But "low battery"?
Are you kidding?
Look at the spec before your post. Thanks.
Ali Abdulla, 22 Jul 2010"how can the OS be outdated if it is just about to come out?"
well if it is... moreI have no comment on the UI. It's about personal preferences. I personally think N8's UI is quite good.
Better than IOS at least.
But when it comes to functionality, it is better than IOS or Android.
Maybe lesser home screen out of the box.
But it is enough for me.
Most likely Nokia will increase the number of home screen in their next updates or maybe some third party apps can help to do that.
But for me, it is enough even if it is just one home screen.
Hardware features wise, N8 is much more better than most of it same rank phone in the market.
kodn, 22 Jul 2010how can the OS be outdated if it is just about to come out?"how can the OS be outdated if it is just about to come out?"
well if it isnt better than current OSes on the market.. UI wise and functionality, then yeah its outdated before its out..
i dont mind the Symbian at all, but when i stop and think about Meego, hmmmmmmm :P
qwerty, 22 Jul 2010Why would you need 5 home screen with 30 widgets? What could you possibly have.
Android ... morehello. Why Nokia lost ground to competitors is precisely this limitation which makes Symbian and 3. Why only three screens. why not 5 or 6, or 7/android.
Yes it's true if you have multiple phone screens decreases performance. Galaxy's Samsung when it recognizes that the CPU has the same performance over seven screens and a mobile phone is damn fast.
Nokia loses ground for this software. He appeared Maemo. Hooray. He disappeared Maemo.
If not move along to have a Nokia phone for nothing, however only those that sell them, software is the key.
I have a Nokia E50. good phone but the software is already aged, was good three years now. move forward.
SidewindeR, 22 Jul 2010I was actually wondering if the samsung Wave is indeed the N8 killer. With a smaller price tag... morei agree completely.
the other Ooperating systems may seem better, but functions speaks louder than beauty when it comes to phones..
[deleted post]how can the OS be outdated if it is just about to come out?
it simply rocks............
usb otg, hdmi, bt v3, wifi wth n support, this nokia's gona rock
SidewindeR, 22 Jul 2010With symbian open source, it is possible without a doubt. I currently own a 5233 with symbian^... moreWow! 5230 with 3 home screen! I dont think so after you talk! I watch HD2 run a new UI, very good animation, fast n smooth. And my hope a N8 5 home screen seem to be become really. I will set many icon in it. Wow! My only bad point in N8 will be solved.
A must must read article!- The Nokia way, past, present and future : http://communities-dominate.blogs.com/brands/2010/07/obituary-for-opk-wall-street-is-a-cruel-mistress-nokia-searching-for-ceo.html
A stance from it about N8 and failure of N97:
When Nokia finally did an 'iPhone killer' - that project failed. And this falls onto the feet of OPK. The N97 was a rare disaster phone for Nokia and with hind-sight, its clear to see, Nokia would have been better served by delaying the N97 until it was more-or-less bug-free, than hurrying the phone to the market. The lessons from the N97 were very painful to Espoo and no doubt those lessons are why Anssi Vanjoki delayed the N8 launch now, knowing its not good enough yet, and wanted to refine it before releasing it.
BIG "B", 21 Jul 2010Actually i want to know music performance of this phone (N8).Can u please tell me something ab... moreyou will be able to hear your future.. you will also be able to hear the angels singing until you fall asleep..
of course it plays music, duh! what else do you want from its audio? release gamma rays that can cure cancer?
n8 is much better than wave. wave only has samoled and 480 x 840. theres many useles space in the wave. N9 will also feature a 12mp. the one in the rumor mill is the Nokia E7. I hope it has 1500 mah.
