Nokia most definitely wouldn't upgrade the n8 to s^4. However, i'm 100% sure it would get the upgrade unofficially. Symbian is now open source so I wont be surprised if we see some n8s running android.
what's the price of this secondhand nokia n8. if anyone want to sell his or her n8 tell me. i'll call you if it fits my budget.............
aero, 18 Jul 2010n8 aint gonna get much support from devs either.. its gonna be the last symbian 3 nseries dev ... moreRegarding (unofficially) upgrading the N900 to Meego, is it advisable for non-tech savvy people to do this, or is the risk too great that you will only end up bricking your phone unless you know what you're doing? For some reason, I have it in my head that the N8 will be upgradeable to Symbian 4. Nokia haven't confirmed or denied this, but I'd like to think that if they won't officially support the upgrade, then they would say so (like they did with Meego and N900). That being said, they probably don't want to turn people off the N8 by announcing it won't be upgradeable to newer versions of Symbian even before it's been released. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
The Nokia gameplan! MeeGo + Symbian. Learn why they could have choosed this combination only. They have solid reasoning. http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/010/07/why_symbian_and_meego_are_best_for_nokia_1.htm
Anonymous, 18 Jul 2010Read somewhere that Symbian^3 can run apps developed for Symbian^4 and Meego.
So no issue for... moreTotally agree with that.. the software support wont be a problem at all. So s3 has its reasons to stay.. and i like the way nokia decided that they wud go meego for high end devices...
Its high time they got back the high end mob market which was rightfully theirs from the beginning... Cheers Nokia.. :D
Niraj, 18 Jul 2010I like the idea of Nokia. They are not giving meego officially on N900 but still Nokia is givi... moreAnd the last sentence was rather ignorant mate. Coz, symbian 4 is not out yet and nor is its hardware requirements. So its hard to assert on such a conclusion tat n8 WILL SUPPORT S4.
And its not a qn of hardware compatibility, its a qn of whether nokia will make it possible. And yea, i personally like to think that they would keep s4 for devices of the future since n8 is the 1st device with s3 and they wud need the 1st to stay there i guess..
Niraj, 18 Jul 2010I like the idea of Nokia. They are not giving meego officially on N900 but still Nokia is givi... morei understand ur thing.. and Nokia isnt offering both for n900.. You see meego is linux.. it was made and distributed by the devs for n900 on test basis.. the phone doesnt support the OS officially means it wud be as jailbreakin an iphone.
but symbian on the other hand is not like linux. No other phone is as customizable and upgradable as N900. unless n9 comes with meego in the future.. just coz its linux... So... n8 wudnt have much choices i am assuming.. But i am still with nokia... even if it doesnt get updated to s4, still it wud get incredible customer support.. I was rooting behind n8 for some time now mate.. But now i would like to wait for n9 coz i do love a qwerty on ma phone and n97 was a disaster in tat case.. :(
aero, 18 Jul 2010I wouldnt be that sure. Because n900 can surely support Meego.. Meego is running fine on n900 ... moreI like the idea of Nokia. They are not giving meego officially on N900 but still Nokia is giving it to people on N900. So now users have choice between Meamo and Meego, what they want on their phone. I do think Nokia will do the same thing with N8 since its hardware is fully capable to run symbian^4.
Joey, 18 Jul 2010Symbian 4 is not going to be release before next summer or even next fall because when they re... moreit wud be out by the end of 2011 maximum.. expected in 2010 end but knowing nokia.. it might be 2011 but not later on..
aero, 18 Jul 2010n8 aint gonna get much support from devs either.. its gonna be the last symbian 3 nseries dev ... moreRead somewhere that Symbian^3 can run apps developed for Symbian^4 and Meego.
So no issue for low apps count.
Plus N8 is full of useful features.
I will definitely get the N8 first. By the time Symbian^4 is ready, it will almost be the time for me to get a new device.
Joey, 18 Jul 2010Guys nokia n8 misght get an upgrade from symbian 3 to symbian 4, search it on googleI wouldnt be that sure. Because n900 can surely support Meego.. Meego is running fine on n900 but nokia is not offering official support for meego are they?
Similarly i doubt it for n8 too..
Nikhil, 18 Jul 2010RS 21,090 21?? Lol.. can anyone confirm tat? I wudnt say it wud be under 30 by anymeans...

Guys nokia n8 misght get an upgrade from symbian 3 to symbian 4, search it on google
carl, 18 Jul 2010I think I will wait for the N8. If the N900 was upgradeable to Meego, then I would get it now ... moren8 aint gonna get much support from devs either.. its gonna be the last symbian 3 nseries dev to be launched by nokia. so its someway similar to n900..
N900 is infinitely upgradable though.. n900 has done meego in the past eventhough not official and also gone as far as froyo on it..
If its just upgradability u want.. (not lookin at the tons of features on n8 in the process) its n900 which is more customizable.. its a linux phone anyways..
Anonymous, 18 Jul 2010It is worth the wait, two more months to go nokia can release it at any time they want, the... moreI think I will wait for the N8. If the N900 was upgradeable to Meego, then I would get it now but as it's not, I don't want to buy a device that Nokia (and developers) may very well abandon in the near future.
Manoj, 18 Jul 2010can any one tell me. what will be the price.if it comes to market???guess??RS 21,090
