mk, 07 Jul 2010Yes,u r right. Nokia should try 2 use mass memory instead of C.Nokia is good to have both C and mass memory. When you upgrade the firmware, only C memory will get formatted. The mass memory is safe. But at least don't be so stingy. Just provide a bit more memory in this C drive. Just a bit more will be enough. Like 250mb..

Nokia most probably would configure applications like the ovi maps and web browser to make use of the mass memory. Thats the only way this problem can be totally rid off.

I think Nokia had to announce the mobile very early cause i think the mobile was leaked on mobile-review.com and the preview they gave was negative....
Daily interest is above 80%. This is good.

Oh and 512 NAND means 512 MB of NAND which is a flash memory. N97 have 256 MB NAND and OS size of s60v5 on N97 is 184 MB so C: memory left for end user is just 72 MB. Nokia installs bunch of services on it and you left with

I have skipped Here and Now because what it offer is already included in new version of OVI maps. Also new versions of OVI app store and OVI music stores are released and they are mandatory and goes in C: only. Also the Wi-Fi enabled navigation has automatically installed an application which is a part of OVI and it installs on phone memory only. So eventually I have left with only 13 MB of free memory (though I am using it very efficiently). That left amount usually get occupied by browser cache and I have to clear it time to time. Ricky of SymbianGuru was wrong, it doesn't require hard reset to get left memory back but clearing cache just works. But its still annoying. Apart from lower RAM and C:, this device is pretty decent at doing other jobs especially camera, sound output and browsing with decent flash implementation (won't talk about signal reception, sensors, call handling because every device except iPhone does this nicely). Hope Nokia learn from mistakes in N97 and put bigger C: on N8. N8 is having 512 NAND so 512 minus size of S^3 would be size of C: but S^3's size is still unknown I guess.
I was probably havin a lame day anyway. Besides I can probably force move the Nokia release OTA or NSU programs & their content to the MicroSD anyway rather than C:. Maybe I'll mess around with mapping sometime, perform reinstallation & see if I get the options.
on side note to the debate over the N8's low memory issue. As I said S^3 may get virtual memory & besides 256mb of RAM is plenty of app memory especially if S^3 is memory multi tasking proefficient.
I'm sure the N8 won't have the low memory. We'll have to wait & see the August Alpha firmware which still won't be final. I'd wait & watch the vids using that firmware. Although it does help ofc for comparisons of previous beta stages.
Nokia also release Location services along with Here & Now for a OTA release. I install these & agree to the terms & conditions & ok the install but didn't see any choice of moving it to the MicroSD card! So there ya go. Maybe I need to install NSU but even then synched to PC may not offer Destination choices for installation.
Ok I never saw an option for new program updates to transfer it & have it mapped from SD. take for instance doin an update to the new 3.2 OVI maps. I lost just under a good 10mb on my C: memory. It didn't ask me to install the *NEW* map data to the SD card. Not with the OTA update anyway... I'm sure you can clear a good 4-5mb from browser cache though. But other people have experienced losing their internal C: phone memory from this. Did you lot see an option for moving the OS program OVI Maps to MicroSD especially if newer versions have craps loads of content which as I said lowers your C: phone memory?
Do you think the N8 will be free on a 18 month contract or do you think they will charge like the iphone?
if nokia wants to win over SAMSUNG WAVE then they have to offer n8 at a price very competitive as both are having NEW OS kindly note that.how many agree with me?
never in my life

The design of the power button on this phone is same as that for laptops and pcs. Holding the power button down for 8 seconds doesn't initiate shut down in the phone os, it disconnects the phone from its power source. Its as good as removing the battery. Whether the phone hangs or not would not affect its functionality.
Besides, why are you guys so skeptical? This is symbian^3! Nokia knows better than to grow with the old downs. Symbian^3 aims to be usable by the average user and not just geeks. Its sure to be very stable.
