Nokia sold 21.5 million smartphones in the first three months of this year. So while some areas of the market may be bleating that Nokia is on the slide it seems more mainstream users than ever are enjoying the benefits of the Symbian OS. Read on to find out why 21.5 Million Nokia fans can ’t be
wrong.
The first quarter of any year often sees a dip in sales, largely due to everyone spending too much
in the pre-Christmas rush. However, a report from Network World suggests that Nokia beat current market trends by selling 21.5 million
smartphones in the first quarter of the year, which is up quarter-on-quarter from 20.8 million. That’s pretty amazing considering the world wide market sold a total of 55 million smartphones, so
Nokia is clearly still leading the way.
The main reason for this growth is put largely down to the growth in Nokia X Series and Nokia C
Series devices, which may not be cutting-edge devices but deliver amazing high-end features at an appealing mainstream price. This filtering down of technology from the high-end to ever more affordable handsets is a strategy that seems to be
winning Nokia fans the world over.
With Nokia moving the Nokia N Series to a MeeGo platform we can expect to see more Symbian- based devices appearing in the Nokia C Series and
Nokia X Series ranges.

George, 03 Jul 2010People don't worry to much about the different OS's. Keep in mind, programs written for megoo ... moreReally ? Thatz great if it is true !
Great design, great spec... But i am worried about the battery !!!! Can this battery survive with the the 12mp cam ? Hope it will...
People don't worry to much about the different OS's. Keep in mind, programs written for megoo will work in a s4 device. Further, regular upgrades to s3 will bring it very close to the s4 standards. Actually, s3/s4, megoo, memo and android are pretty close to begin with. For example, a memo device (the n900) was made to run on android without any hardware changes. Nokia self said, most megoo programs will run without any changes on s3/s4. I really don't understand what you are all about . . .
nice
ANOTA, 03 Jul 2010This phone is never gonna work out without a 1ghz processor & 512 MB ram....without these ... moreSymbian^1 works pretty snappy in a e72.. thats a 600mhz ..........
remember that it also dosnt have a GPU, that is hardware acceleration...
and half the rams..
and to top that they say symbian^3 is more memory efficient and snappier, meh we'll c to that soon
@r3b3l:
i meant symbian^4* not meego, im looking forward for symbian^3, but still have many doubts in mind... i like symbian but im just too sick of that "memory full" error..
also, i hope they remove all those stupid notification, everytime you copy/cut.. or connect, app install etc, file deleted and so on... those feed backs consume too much times, and makes symbian "feels" slower that it already is :P(altho this time its software not hardware wise)..
maybe a tiny popup at the top right corner or something, but not something that will "stop" user from inputting for a whole second..
Jean, 02 Jul 2010Sad news for Nokia and Symbian. The symbian Guru has left the ship, and is buying an android p... moreDon't be sad.... but be angry on Nokia for being adamant by developing such crappy, lame, sluggish devices despite knowing the issues of these phones and not fixing them....
This phone is never gonna work out without a 1ghz processor & 512 MB ram....without these It will be the same experience as that of N97......let it be a Symbian^(3) or Symbian^(Infinity)........
Ali Abdulla, 03 Jul 2010- memory in C: too low - 256mb is not bad, but its not good at all :@ - no qwerty keyboard :... moreThe problem of not enough memory in the c:/ drive was peculiar to the n97 alone. Not even the mini had this problem. How then do you expect nokia to repeat such a disaster in their current top phone at their current state of crisis. Also bear in mind that this is running a new symbian not the pile of crap that ran on the n97.

People always say symbian slow slow slow.... Ok lets amazine that fon that u think really fast ,and a s^3 fon with that equal hardware. What ll that b. U may consider or not but its the worlds most eficient OS.
what's taking nokia so looooong to out this handset? now that galaxy s is out, i'll get one this month. i don't know if i'll have budget for the n8 later.
Engineer Man, 02 Jul 2010I don't know. Theres a lot to like about sticking with Nokia & S^3 but I'm holding my brea... more- memory in C: too low
- 256mb is not bad, but its not good at all :@
- no qwerty keyboard :(
IF there is an official statement from Nokia that N8 uses will have the choice/ability to advance to MEEGO when its out.. then i might truly consider the N8..
Does it have a document editor? How can I obtain one?
I don't know. Theres a lot to like about sticking with Nokia & S^3 but I'm holding my breath for the memory limitations, limitied OS memory. Lower Application RAM. Stll missing Functionality such as copy & paste, pinch to zoom, text reflow. Som of these may be added for S^3 but they are nothing new for Android as it has had time to mature the code of the UI's eye candy. Not short if you can add application shortcuts to the S^3 homescreen but you can with Android aswell as every other type of app & widget.
We are best to wait & see what happens. Android definately has all the eye candy & all the functionality that frankly as a symbian S60 user is still missing & I'm getting agitated by it. Sure Symbian does have pros in other areas of functionality that is maturer than android, but it misses the vital elements that make the OS visually appealing, intuitive, simply & nice to look at rather than menu structure based system.
I have said in past posts that Symbian has a lot of areas of strong points but it fails in other areas of weakness that it has missed out on for too long. That has kept features & specs down for symbian which has been a good thing.
But I'm thinking I;d like a change & as soon as the Samsung BEAM arrives, I'll be waiting to make a big judgement on Android 2.1 Eclair/S^3 Samsung Beam/Nokia N8.
As you say the downers aren't really downers. You fail to take into consideration the AMOLED screen is 30% less battery hungry & S^3 is 20% less battery hungry. The phone will be 70% better on power because the Application processor uses a stupidly small amount of battery. So does the BT 3.0 use less battery life. The 5800 was supposed to get 36 hours in flight mode of music playback, this is supposed to achieve 50 hours. The GPU will make a huge difference & an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is better responsive than a TFT capacitive touchscreen.
What downs the N8 for me is the Dreaded S60 memory full errors, no copy & paste frunction for web browser, text reflow, pinch to zoom. The N8's 256Mb or ram could be higher, so could the resolution of the screen but this will reduce battery strain aswell while still looking very nice.
The limited C: MEM memory available has always been a downer for me especially as newer OVI maps data, IM programs & other OS apps are using more & more memory, like with V.50 on my 5800 the memory space went down from 43 to 36 & now down to 31. So I'm on the verge of moving to Android or sticking with S^3 or moving to MEAGO, MEAMO device. What i just mentioned really does matter. Memory matters no matter how efficient the the OS is.
Nokia do need to make big changes with S^3 & 4. So yeah I will be watching very closeley indeed. I may just move bandwagon, but will wait till release of mature firmware although it won't be mature but you get my drift. There are key issues with BUGS & memory limitations that need to be revamped.
loks like another nokia bull sh..........t phone y they r not trying for more good keep leaving the things behind for new upcomming handset ..............
