Well, The Symbian Foundation Gurus have already managed to get S^3 running on a N5800 handset!
So S^3 is the milestone. No doubt newer handsets will also support S^3 with upgrade support to 4,5 revisions.
With only 1 year lead to the expected availability of S^4 handsets, do you think N8 may be software upgradable to S^4?
Of course newer handsets will be likely having better hardware and power, but is there any reason S^4 should not be able to run on N8?
Please i will like to know if this N8 product is now in the market.

All the minute architectural changes, & sign offs, QOS, Quality control, Qualifications, approvals, it's a shame it couldn't have been achieved slightly sooner than those R&D contracts were put into place.
But fear not. Future for nokia is brighter. It's all thanks to IBM, Samsung still. Theres still new designs to be had. There's still the N9 & beyond not too far away. Anyway I couldn't help but mention applauding Samsung Foundry for the greatness that is ARM 1176 reduction to 32nm. That's all the statement I really wanted to make. KUDOS to Intel Alliance aswell.
the only cuz i will consider n9 over n8 is , n8 dont have video codec supports for divx/xvid ... I have ma 5800 ,n82 to serve me ... I need a all rounder now ... The size never matter .... Whet matters is performance ... Meego is the way with firefox browser ....

Unless apples can draw new licenses, contracts from samsung to use the processors since they fall within the same 1176 family of ARM (SoC) So it could be good news for nokia especially. If Nokia can support this implementation of this New (SoC) design it will virtually drop into the same silicon process as the current (SoC). This is good news for Nokia N8, S^3 lower power computation application processor, lower power OS. This will make a huge difference to N8, it means nokia could integrate a 1Ghz unit, etc... while having the benefits over the iphone 4 in battery life & over samsungs current range of galaxy phones. It all depends on whether these new (SoC) chips can be integrated into these current smartphones PCB design.

But... it won't come to NOKIA N8. do you think it is easy to change the hardware specs on two month notice? we are talking about major revamping here. even a small change in the alumunium jacket needs a tick of approval from all nokia's rank and file.
Do you know what this means.This is BIG news. Upto 80% more operational efficiency in these new (Soc) using High-K metal gate logic processes to shrink the technology (fabrication process) super low power requirements for mobiles. I wonder which Samsungs, Nokia, SE, Motorola, HTC phones will be blessed to get these chips unlike the Apple A4 which is a samsung Cortex A8 1ghz 45nm application processor anyway.
The N8 might just get a revamped version of the ARM Cortex 1176 Application processor package family down from 45nm to 32nm!. Better news for Nokia N8. Samsung Foundy Coorp with Intel alliance have found a way to shrink current Cortex A8 1Ghz down from 45nm to 32nm using their High-K metal gate LP (Logic Processes with double the logic density of 45nm processes through minimized restrictive design rules.
As part of the qualification process, Samsung Foundry designed and manufactured a 32nm LP SoC that shows 30 percent dynamic power reduction and 55 percent leakage power reduction when compared to the SoC design implemented at 45nm LP at the same frequency. Samsung Foundry was able to reach these significant power reduction numbers due to its gate-first HKMG implementation.
In developing the 32nm LP process, Samsung Foundry worked in close engineering partnership with its ecosystem partners. The partner IP successfully integrated and silicon proven in this SoC includes ARM 1176 core, ARM physical IP comprising of standard cells, memory compilers and I/Os and Synopsys' USB 2.0 OTG.
Samsung Foundry worked with EDA partners including Synopsys, Cadence Design Systems and Mentor to incorporate advances into the design flow for 32nm LP such as:
- Advanced low power techniques including power gating, multi-threshold voltages, multi-channel lengths and adaptive body biasing techniques were used to reduce leakage power
- Statistical Static Timing Analysis (SSTA) was used to effectively address variation and reduce timing margins
- Various cell and chip level DFM techniques were used to improve manufacturability
Samsung Foundry's 32nm LP HKMG process technology has been developed to offer its customers shrinkable design rules and a smooth migration path to 28nm LP.

Whats the use of putting excess of processing power into a device? Symbian doesn't need a 1gh processor to run! I for sure won't be amused with burns from an over heating phone. Plus any one with even basic knowledge of smartphones would know that the speed of a processor does not necessarily dictate the speed at which it processes data. While engineers are working endlessly on ways to improve processing speed while keeping processor work rate down, dumbs like you head in the opposite direction, looking for bigger numbers which in turn means more heat, less battery life and more expenses. Be rational!

Many peops made an 'educated' guess that the real proc's speed is 750Mhz down-clocked to 680Mhz (it was quoted from another site but again you cannot be damned sure). well i don't think so. considering how economies of scale is applied at nokia, i believe nokia uses an overclocked version of the 600Mhz proc as it used in e72, e5, e52 and c5.
why would nokia bother to buy a different proc? the firm is notoriously known for selling outmoded proc. let other competitors buy the new and expensive one and wait until the price for Ghz proc goes down before jumping into the bandwagon. It won't be this year though. did you even realise that ALL the X series line is using the obsolete 434Mhz proc?
