Just wondering what could be done with an N8 if there was a HyperX version of s^3... he achieved a lot of performance on a i8910 which runs S60. would be interesting to see what actually is possible with the N8...

since S^3 is open source this would be a possibility, and completely allowed.

S^3 is a milestone ahead of previous. A lot of work has been done to integrate what was the Symbian core OS & with the S60 UI & apps that have been built for Nokia. Also incooporated many contributions from many other companies both device manufactuer, service provider, network operators. The S^3 release is the first general availability of integrated code line since the foundation was formed.

A few of the nice key features that are in S^3 are the new Micro Kernel which can run on very low computation load application processors meaning that you can extend battery life for extensive periods of time with active use meaning that you can multitask actively in the OS on your mobile. Their is a Hardware Abstraction Layer. Some of the first bits are elment of a HAL in there which will provide Symbian Foundation a much larger range of technologies by which people can create mobile products & run the OS on platform.

The qt core library is included in S^3 their. This will enable devs to rw write applications & do some much more amazing things than previous symbian OS's. Lots of work have done to remove the no of inputs that you have to do for basic tasks or common tasks, it will be much easier to send a mail, much easier to go online, much easier to stay connected with multiple applications with very few inputs

Theres also some nice nice visual design features, transparencnies, transitional effects which will look brilliant Hardware accelerated. Symbian are releasing 40 million lines of source code worth $4.5 billion, totally open source & free to the market place for anyone to use. Open source code can be directly influenced by any dev to make any contribution, manufacturers, network operators, silicon & tech providers in the symbian ecosystem, will be able to produce amazing symbian products for consumers. Products that we have a role in defining. We help make it what it is.

It reduces their overall investments that they would as in individual companies ot teams would have to make in product creation, because they get to leverage the benefits of everybody elses work & all those other contributions that are added into the codebas on an ongoing basis. With that level of code access, you really can unleash the creativtity of every single developer that's out there for any type of application. I think we are going to see some great apps.

Symbian Foundation has already started to see great application, this will get even better now over time. It looks like the largest open source contribution that has ever been made. A dominant OS & platform in the smartphone segment of the mobile marketplace has now been completely opened up & has been given away to the dev public to further evolve, use. This looks like big possibilties.

WOW . . . 50.000 Votes and the phone is still 2 months away ! ! ! This popularity tops anything this forum has ever seen ! ! ! If it goes on like this the N8 will give Apple a hiding :-) big time. We should have 100.000 votes before the year is over ! Well done Nokia. Your PR is working overtime. Good idea to release the teasing preview videos one by one . . .

                @ Ying

Ok. Your right Ying I can't proclaim to make that statement just yet. Apple having poprietary SDK & 1500 API's allows devs to control more aspects of a previously limited & locked down OS. But I have a pretty good idea that when S^3, Meamo/ Meego will fully fo open source they will get plenty of dev support. The design of the micro kernel, the new HAL in the OS, C++, Qt, HTLM, webkits all this will be open to Symbian Foundation.

You can't actually see that yet because they haven't laid the foundations yet, S^3 for instance has a BIG & bright future & the show is only just getting started. Qt Apps that will be compatible across platforms making the possiblity for other Linux based platforms which Nokia may be a member of to port easily from S^3 to Meamo, Meego possibly. Symbian thus far have sold upwards of 350,000,000 devices.

Apples app store has consistently grown with attracting dev support for it's OS Python, perl scripting, because they only have one device the iphone, & there focus has been primarily on software segment. However soon the possiblities for S^3, Qt across a wide range of platforms will transform the kind of apps we can run on symbian, meamo/ meago maybe.

[deleted post]There were like around 400 votes is 4 hours to vote this phone down.

The rating is not reliable. We should look at the total number of votes. The more votes the more popular.

If it is not a threat, fans from other brands will not do their best to constantly vote this phone down.

Thus, don't judge this phone by the rating.
No matter what, i will get it.

the vedios still laaaggsss, is that the final firmware used? it's quite disaapointing... huhu... I just want it to be par with the touch phone industry's average. I hope they made some final tweaking when it's launch. My hopes are high seeing a high end GPU is used. but i just don't know about the recent chinese demo videos, it just don't live up to it's hype.
