I am really happy about Nokia after a long time..
Becos they are now at least TRYING to give their beloved customers what they want exactly..
See N8 ::: An amazing gadget!! (Don't know whether to call it a phone anymore!! It has got ALMOST everything a funky electronic accessory need to have at reasonable price and real capabilities which are more than just a showoff toy .. sorry Apple)
But yes.. it is NOT what can be called THE ULTIMATE, as almost everybody seems to have missed at least one of their sweet feature and keep dreaming to have that as well just to jump into the bandwagon to buy this once the baby is out.
Anyways, it is not possible to satisfy everybody with everything they need in such a little (subjective) bar, Nokia is at least trying their best.
I am suggesting ""MY"" N8 below:
5 or 8MP cam is enough instead of 12MP
Dual LED flash for video rec
Better UI looks out of the box (especially with main menu)
Discard USB port as it is not a TRUE OTG
DIVX/XVID support out of the box
Strong and Clear loud Speaker even if it is a mono (no need of dual speakers)
I am excited about the following set of features:
Big Cam lens
Multi touch support
720p vid rec
I am little skeptical with these:
1. How smooth the high resolution videos can be played with ARM 11 680MHz CPU?? Is GPU really gonna play crucial role in video playback??
2. I had serious issues with N85 as it failed to deliver properly; its highly advertised TV-out by Nokia in those days. Need to see how good N8 behaves with HDMI output; given its slow processor (again subjective)
3. I really don't care if the loud speaker is dual or stereo or whatever.. It should give enough volume and clear sound with bass on par with 5800 XM. Can't jump to conclusion till it is released.
4. Need to see how much scratch and smudge resistant are the N8 camera lens, its screen and the body itself.
5. And the most important of all.. how much economic is the S^3 & N8's h/w in terms of power consumption; given the battery's relatively lower capacity.
I also want to suggest Nokia (even though they can't listen and act on somebody's suggestion opinion from GSMArena)
U have got to make few std. devices with gr8 looks at all price ranges. I think N8 is first Nokia's creation I am loving for its looks rather than the feature hype surrounding it. I think these days tech. is changing faster than fashion ... ummm... ok ok .. at least in Mobile industry. There are companies that are coming up with optical zoom, projector and who knows may be even refrigerator as well in future) on mobiles. So cant believe the expiry date of any new technical innovation. But the first thing that comes is the looks of ur gadget which wouldn't be out dated so fast as technology.
Just see Sammy and their marketing strategy. In India (where I live), until few months back, people seldom believed any mobile company other than Nokia. For them Nokia == Mobile phone. But now Samsung have done magic with their marketing capabilities and Corby!! Yes, even though Corby scores less in terms of performance when compared to the other mobiles around.. the looks have made brand Corby a big success. Samsung then launched variants in Corby and tasted profits. So just hoping Nokia takes this (handset looks) seriously and work it out.
And one more thing, they just need to leave the obsession with their very own Symbian and think out-of-the-box. Either make the UI trendy or bow before Andriod to accept it (latter isn't a good alternative in my opinion).
[deleted post]I do not usually comment on others writing skill as i myself is not that good at all.
But i find it very hard to understand the points for almost every posts of yours.
Well, u are welcome to post in this topic whether your opinion is a negative or positive one.
As i said before, a great phone deserve like 10 pages of posts a day. Thanks to you :)
And people who likes this phone will still buy it regardless of how bad is the post or rating.
You and your friend also helped breaks a record for the daily interest for this phone.
btw.. i think the ovi map really helpful to people who have bad sense of direction like me. ohh... i just love the phone and wonder when it will be available :)
Anonymous, 03 Jun 2010Symbian 4 is something MUCH better! i wait for this...And its not too far from release. its coming early next year! Nokia backing 90% of development of Symbian 4 even though its open sourse, it makes sense that Nokia is serious about it and would give Android a damn.

Its a whole new interface coming in Symbian 4. And MeeGo is already being appreciated for UI. And now its not just Nokia, its a Nokia + Intel!
I've always liked Nokia and Sony Ericsson. European quality, great design, and great RF (Why not, Nokia and Ericsson invented GSM!). But i'm worried about Nokia's fate. Albeit they are still #1 in market share people are jumping ship away from them. They slacked on the touch screen for too long, and they are still using Symbian... Which may be still the #1 most used smartphone OS, but lacks many apps and looks dated and bland. Nokia owns Symbian, ok, fine... But, its time to go Android. Its free for Nokia to install, its well supported and almost fully matured as an OS. (I'm on 1.6, still some piss offs... Alarm clock needs phone to be on, x10 has to be on when charging, call log sucks etc.) But its all minor... Just like WinMo 6.1, now at 6.5 fully mature, just too buggy lol.
But Go Nokia, move on up, use Android or that Maemo you made for the N900 and show us Revolutionary again!
Anonymous, 03 Jun 2010what are you talk?
to care about galaxy, wave or iphone or some...
point is... Nokia going down!
Do you have numbers to prove that? Nokia actually held marketshare year on year and increased market share quarter on quarter. They are doing this without a phone like the N8, and an old N97 flagship, and a not for your average consumer N900.
That is pretty impressive.
They also make 1 Billion dollars a quarter on phones. Only Apple make more from phones, and SE, Samsung and LG regularly struggle to make money from their phone divisions.
So, not true.

The N8 already has more votes and views than many other phones, it is not even out yet.
I say, we try to find as much relevant information as possible, and share. If we like the N8, why would we spend time somewhere else? ;)
Anonymous, 03 Jun 2010The rating click rates of this phone model alone is convincing enough.
Fans from other bran... moreSo true, All Nokia haters can let the vote down but cant let down the daily interest. See it is still 94%. While all their beloved crappy phones have less than 30% daily interest. All Nokia haters cant accept N8 is the best multimedia phone so they are trying to decrease the votes.
To all Nokia fans:
we should not be silent. If N8 dont deserves high votes than no other phone also. We should also decrease the votes of Samsung Wave, Galaxy S, Beam and all other Non Nokia phone which have higher votes than 8.5 Then all these Nokia haters will realize their faults.
The rating click rates of this phone model alone is convincing enough.
Fans from other brands are gathered to constantly trying to vote this phone down just for one simple reason. Because of its popularity. They felt that this phone is a BIG THREAT for their favorite.
So they are trying to vote this phone down so that they won't feel regret getting any other phone other than this phone simply because this phone is not highly rated.
But good phone will always excel in term of sales.
Look at things in long term pal.
I will get this phone no matter what and i believe those who like this phone will do the same whether if it is highly rated or not. :)
worldwide, 03 Jun 2010oh.. thank u for ur opinion.. but would the n8 lag n does the battery life last long? You're welcome. I'll let you be the judge of if the Nokia N8 lags. Here's a guy's Youtube channel showing off real time usage of the Nokia N8. Remember the videos demoing the Nokia N8 is a prototype with firmwares that are old and consistently being updated.
I would say yes, the battery will last long, but it all boils down to how much you use the device. The battery is small in size but is put to good use considering the OS is Symbian^3 and the hardware isn't power hungry like Android devices.

If you are going to try and dissuade people from getting this device, would you terribly mind elaborating what exactly you find to be better on the android device you referred to?

Is ok if you want to get an android phone pal.
But i will definitely get this phone regardless what the rating is by then :)

I like N8 design. Design to fit n have grip when you hold it on both of your hands while on landscape mode.
I think NEW PSP PHONE should adopt this design concept.
"Symbian^3 was announced on 15 February 2010. This is the first fully open source version of Symbian, following the completion of the release of the entire Symbian codebase earlier that month. The Symbian^3 release introduced new features such as HDMI support, a new 2D and 3D graphics architecture, and UI improvements. One of the first mobile phone to feature this fully open source OS (Symbian^3) is Nokia N8."
