Tom-Helge, 31 May 2010Mark, with the specs Nokia N8 have, you can start to believe it wont support any future OS'es ... moreTom, you misunderstood my point on the OS, it is Google that dictates all of that, not SE...

Also, you just hope SE will give you Android 3.0 and I seriously think they will not rebuild the UI again, for X10. By then there is a new flagship, and so on. You think you will, and I think you are wrong.

The hardware in the N8 is more than sufficient to run S^3 and all of the updates that may come. I dare to say even S^4 could run on it.

Anyway, we shall discuss further later, I have other stuff to do now.

Anonymous, 31 May 2010oh no my friend... i love multitouch for browsing and some actions...Lets see some more advantage of N8 compare to Wave:
unlimited sms memory, secure email (which genrely comes with e series phones), free ovi maps, fm transmitter ( I uses it), real and live multitasking, thousands of themes to choose, cool choice of colors.. Etc.

Ok come on ppl... N8 may be a bit on the weaker side when it comes to hardware specs. But the most important thing is that whatever things this phone is capable of doing it will do perfectly. It is a multimedia powerhouse.
A cam that can rival most point and shoot digicams. This is a great leap and is bound to shorten the boundaries between a mobile phone and a dedicated camera. Till now no phones dared itself to be compared with a dedicated digicam even if it had 12MP and Xenon flash. But this phone is bound to change that for sure. Now we have a phone that can truly replace our bulky digicams.

Secondly we all are aware of quality of the music player that today's n-series and xpress music phones deliver. Something which android and the associated manufactureres are trying so hard to achieve. I am hoping that the music quality will be so good that it will even rival most dedicated PMP's. Even current phones today, nokia has already proved how good it is in the music department.

A full web browser with full flash support will clearly make carrying around a netbook pointless.

So my point is that there are the fields where this phone is going to excel and prove its cause. It is safe to say that for the price you pay, you get a 12MP digicam, a music player that can rival most dedicated PMP's and a full web browsing experience. And it would cost less than buying each one seperately. On top of that, you can carry it around in your pocket carefree because of the built quality and the fine craftsmenship that has gone into it.

To me everything else including the phone's basic features are a bonus.

Its matter of choice. If you dont use fm transmitter thats dont meant every body dont need this ( yea I like this feature).

This is a year old technolog... moreFirst phone with Hdmi, first world wide phone with both 720p video + 12 mp camera, first phone which is going to direct compete with digital cameras of same mp, first phone with 5 band 3.5G ( ask your Samsung how hard is to make this), First phone with Anodized Aluminum casing ( which give choice of cool colors without any worry of scratching), first phone with usb otg, first phone with Gprs/EDGE class 33, dolby surround sound 5.1 means theatre like experience like home..
No other phone have same specifications or any of one specs. You call it old. Lets see what is the advantage Wave has over N8. Super Amoled, Fast, more resolution screen ( still I calculated that it will not impact). Only.

And for your information wave cant multitask between 3rd party application. Only 1 thousand Sms storage capacity and 295 kb outgoing capacity. The ui of Wave is good for some weeks but after that you will bored with it. And still I like the ui of N8 better than Wave, maybe its due to the Ui looks slick or background color was blue, which I like very much... I dont like black background. For practical use I still think N8 is better. And the 300 application you are boasting are not available for each country. I have checked for India there are only 30-40 application and most of them are From Samsung India, which can be consider as rubbish..

Samsung has promised that Omnia hd will also offer video editor but it was not available. Samsung is going to be a untrusted company. I think you better know that how frustated Samsung Behold owners are going to sue Samsung.

Mark, 31 May 2010Hi Tom, I think SE is a good company, like Nokia, but lifetime support in my mind does not ... moreMark, with the specs Nokia N8 have, you can start to believe it wont support any future OS'es from Symbian.

And the thing you don't get is that, going from Android 2.1 to 2.2 doesn't needs to have the TimeScape or MediaScape to be build up from scratch. Some few code changes are only needed there. because Android 2.1 and 2.2 is 98% the same.

To Android 3.0 Sony Ericsson most likely have to create TimeScape and mediaScape from scratch again.

But why wouldn't they do that?, they needs something to do to keep their customers happy you know.

Sony Ericsson is not the company that releases a phone like XPERIA X10 and then makes us to buy a new phone after 1 year because they are releasing a new phone that are a new updated version of the X10 and then just stops to support the X10 because a new and improved version of X10 is out.

Your horribly wrong here if you think that.

Yes, i think it's a good idea to let a company like Sony Ericsson to controll the OS releases they are giving us to the XPERIA X10. Because a nice and good UI from a company over other companies is always good.

There wouldn't really be any points to buy a phone like XPERIA X10 if it have just been a normal Android release with standard skins and so on.

Many peoples are buying the XPERIA X10 because of how nice the phone looks and because the nice UI the OS have that are made by Sony Ericsson.

And to you last point. The day Nokia will go so far to update Nokia N8 to Symbian ^4, then i will start to take Nokia as a more good company.

Because that will show that they will gives you good big major updates instead of giving you some few new features with some bug fixes in the same OS as it have been running from the beginning.

I think SE is a good company, like Nokia, but lifetime support in my mind does not mean you will get new versions indefinitely. My points were:

Do you really think SE will recreate Timescape etc every time Android releases a new version, for the lifetime of your device? That is VERY unlikely, and thus not futureproof.

Do you think it is a good idea to have one company control the OS, the direction of the OS, the release schedule of the OS, the functionality of the OS, the architectural choices of the OS, both for you as a consumer, as well as SE. SE have no control over these updates. If Google release a new one, they need to rush and get their UI layer in order. Do you think this is a wise business practice in the long run for SE, and that that will benefit you? Look at the NXS1, no Skin, immediate 2.2. Not so much for the X10, correct?

The fact that your device could run 3.0 HW wise, does not negate the fact that the N8 could run S^4. Do you agree that if the HW can run the OS smoothly, it is irrelevant what is in the "Black box" Would you also be so kind as to admit that you just assumed S^4 cannot run on the N8. (irrespective if it will be officially supported)

Lets just stick to these 3 for now. I have to say, I did mention all of these already....
