It seems that Nokia has stopped thinking on concrete terms. Nokia E63 which has a tiny 2.36 inches screen and below USD 150 price has a 1500 mAh battery and this N8 which has a huge 3.5 inch battery a double speed processor with graphic accelerator comes with 1200 mAh battery. Where are the brains?
Tom-Helge, 18 May 2010Hey.

Yes I do understand that A8 @ 600 is faster than ARM 11 @ 680. The point was that the GPU does much in S^3 UI, that you did not mention the GPU (again) and that it is the combination of multiple things that define speed, and the S^3, ARM11 & Broadcom GPU could very well lead to a snappier experience than Android on Snapdragon. Just looking at the CPU is pointless.
I for one am happy they do not use Android, as I think it is a terrible idea in the long run to have google own the os, even if it is "free".
Then, Nokia is not shooting for the poorer people, they are using what they are good at now, to make space for high end devices coming. You see, this N8 is really an incredible package for the price. This will hurt the competition. This does not compete with Iphone or X10. Nokia is planning to do this with MeeGo.
Anyway, i only responded to point out the CPU GPU OS combination point. Rgds.

Mark, do you know that an ARM Cortex 600 MHz CPU is more powerfull than an ARM 11 680 MHz CPU by quite alot?.
Why do you think i said N8 should have had an ARM Cortex CPU instead?. I wasn't comparing MHz speeds at all here. I was just comparing how powerfull reach of the CPU's are after how their architecture is builded up on.
So like i said, if this phone had been any high spec, it would need to have an ARM Cortex 600 MHz at least.
Well yeah, Symbian runs good on lower specs phones, but still. Symbian as a future OS isn't looking good tbh. Android seems to be the future.
If this phone have had 1 GHz Snapdragon CPU, 480x800 resolution on the screen as minimum with Android 2.1 / 2.2. Then this phone would be a monster phone.
But i know Nokia is aiming for more of the cheaper crowds, so you can't expect as much out of the phones from Nokias as you can do with other brands.
A 1200 mAh,weak good will be 1500 mAh
B Symbian ^3 OS,bad one, future it's android
C ARM 11 680 MHz processor,come on,no less then 1ghz

Why would you come on a nokia page and criticize it? The answer is simple. You kept saying "my" X10. This is better known as buyer's remorse. You out have spent ur life savings on that phone and the jealousy insided forces you to say bad things about this phone. All just to make urself feel better that you bought the "best" phone. Whether it is or not, it doesn't matter! Grow the hell up. It shouldn't upset you that people in this world might have a better stupid phone than you! Good day sir
Guys been using nokia frm day one.........always love nokia....using N 97 now, and bb 9700, well using bb only fr bbm messenger...now wating madly fr N8...this is def my nxt fone....amazing job NOKIA
Tom-Helge, 18 May 2010Dude, you can't be much updated about specifications on mobile phones today. You must be livin... moreHi Tom,
You do not seem to be the smartest chap around here. Funny thing is, you talk as if you are very knowledgeable about processors etc, when it is clear you are not. You see, just going by processor speed is simply Stupid. Yes, I said that. Stupid. Not only does Symbian have much less hardware requirements than Android (since it is not a VM) and is a much more nimble. Aside from that, the UI in S^3 is hardware accelerated (Android is not, which is another reason it needs a snapdragon, which also brings terrible battery life) , why do you not include the GPU in your analysis? The one in the N8 is pretty good, as far as I know the Snapdragon one is...nonexistent? It is ironic, that you compare all these things like CPU, RAM, etc, then wield them like they are weapons in a fight, when they are actually necessary evil, necessary to make Android run smooth, killing your battery while doing so. What is good about that? That is just as stupid as a megapixel race.
Listen, I am not against the X10, I like the device, just not the OS or the rubber. I like the N8's design better, its camera, the brand (personal) its made of aluminum which I like as well, etc etc. I just think the discussion here is very shallow, and resembles bickering between opposing football fans more than furthering understanding.
Why?

You say it is better th... moreI can shut up totally when you guys realize that this phone is not high spec even if it have more internal memory, USB function that isn't really usefull today, great build quality (Yeah my XPERIA X1 and X10 also have great build quality even if the X10 is out of plastic mostly).
My X10 also have FM radio, or it can use FM Radio at least, you just have to use this to get it to work: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/mw600?cc=no&lc=no.
You don't really need any phones to get that to work as a radio though. But still, my X10 was delivered with an FM radio.
A secondary camera isn't really needed today. My XPERIA X1 have a secondary camera. And how much do you think i have used it?. 2 times in 1 year lol.
So even if the N8 have those functions that X10 doesn't have, it doesn't mean the N8 is high spec.
Well yeah, i agree, it's high spec to be Nokia, but that's it.
Tom-Helge, 18 May 2010Dude, you can't be much updated about specifications on mobile phones today. You must be livin... moreFurthermore, S^3 is said to be battery friendly. And it is also an improved software, as reviewed by the Chinese. The platform experienced total change from the foundation of S^1, meaning it's functions and fluidity is completely different. Only the appearance is still the same.

If you are the type who like to exploit every last bit of your phone's capability, then by all means, go for the N900. However, if you are the type which like to take photos spontaneously and like to try out something new or refreshing, I would definitely recommend the N8. I also believe the N8 will be slightly cheaper than the N900 since the N900 has a release price of Euro 500 while the N8 will be priced at around Euro 370 before tax.
I would definitely get myself a N8 since I like to take photos and also have a liking for capacitive touchscreen as well as OLED screen. =D

please dont argue SE&NOKIA fans
these are only phones not girls!

You say it is better than x10 in only camera wise and bt 3.0..? See these other specifications of N8:
USB On Go
Wifi n
Great build quality
Fm Radio
Fm transmitter
Secondry camera
16 gb internal memory
These things are not present on X10.. But x10 has fluid ui, good screen resolution and big screen, which is better than n8...

First of all, calling this a high spec mobile phone with a poor ARM 11 680 MHz processor is as stupid as it can get. It doesn't even have an ARM Cortex CPU. FAIL FAIL FAIL.
And calling a screen with 360x640 resolution for high spec is as much fail as it can get to. 360x640 resolution is soooooooo early 2009.
This is called low spec, not high spec.
You Nokia crowd are funny as hell.
As for performance and smoothness, my Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 smokes the N8 extremely hard in everything except for the camera / recording thing.
Oh, N8 also have Bluetooth 3.0, wooooh, 2 things that are better than the X10.
So my question is though, since this phone is mainly for camera usage. Then why is it running Symbian when the phone can't really be used for anything else than the camera / recording function because of the N8 have a crap CPU that's can't run many programs today without lagging badly.
