It will fix all your camera issues. No need to specifically select ''red eye reduction mode'' from the options. It will b automatically fixed in automatic mode. And believe me its just awsome and has doubled the power of this beast 12 mp shooter. I have tried it and fully satisfied...
Image mode update includes...
1: real red eye reduction.
2: improved shortcut menu.
3: slightly better image quality then before.
Video mode update includes...
1: framerate upgraded from 25 fps to 30 frames per second.
2: comes with continous autofocus.
3: improved menu.
4: better video quality and less blurring...

To be honest, I've never used Fring or anything else of that nature but I would suggest that perhaps your network provider may have blocked Fring and any other apps that allows free calling.

It all depends on what you need in a smart phone and what your budget is.
The N8 can be bought cheaply due to it's age and has some good features not found in some other top smart phones such as 12 Mega pixel camera, USB on the go, HDMI output and an FM transmitter.
However, due to it's age it only has a 680 MHz CPU and 256 MB of RAM plus there is a lack of third party development/support because of Nokias' decision to end the Symbian platform by 2016. That's not to say Nokia will cease support of Symbian. They are still planning new updates to the OS and according to most who have tried it, the Belle update promises to be very good indeed.
The decision is entirely yours to make, but if I was to advise anyone who is thinking of buying a new phone I would suggest looking at some of the newer models being sold today.

The simplest way is to connect the phone to a PC and see if Nokia Suite recognises it. If it is a genuine N8 Nokia Suite will see it and communicate with it.
Also, it depends who you bought it from and how much it cost you.

A simpler thing to do to avoid red-eye is to ask your subjects to not look directly at the camera but to look away slightly to the side. This will ensure that the light from the flash isn't directly reflected from the eye back into the camera lens.

To sort your hanging issues you can clear the phones web cache and privacy data. Launch the browser, go to settings and select privacy. Now select Clear privacy data then tap All then confirm by tapping Yes. It's always a good idea to reboot the phone fully every so often by holding the power button for approximately eight seconds until you feel three short vibrations. Leave it switched off for 30 seconds then power back on.
I won't advise you to upgrade to Anna because I don't rate it very much.
Now for the N97 mini. Although it was a decent little phone in it's time it doesn't stand up in todays market especially with it's out of date and obsolete OS (S60 5th edition or Symbian ^1 as it is now known). You would be better off getting one of the newer Nokia phones such as the Nokia 500 which can be had for less than £150 in the UK. Or, you might like to consider getting (Fanboys, look away now) an Android phone.

Mainly, it's not as ... more..but whenever you upgrade your n8 to anna you can use & edit your photos reduce the red eye captions until you feel satisfied. with edit options you can do so much adjustments to your photos like android one. i used to have android smart phones with 5MP's & i still care for the 12MP of N8 for my pictures satisfaction.
