I upgraded my Nokia N8 from Symbian^3 to Symbian Anna last Aug 29. The screen is simple but nice and there goes the saying "Simplicity is beauty".
However, I found out that the submenu icons under SETTINGS are NOT colored. And also the check marks when you select multiple items are just outline and no color so its a little bit hard to notice if item is selected or not. Is this normal when you upgrade your OS? If not, do the people at Nokia know that this kind of problem exists on their Symbian Anna upgrade? What must be done?
I am already beginning to regret why did I ever upgraded my N8-00 to Symbian Anna.
Okay.... This is it...!
I have been reading a lot of crap about the Symbian OS, it being dying and its obsolete and incompetent with the other OS's etc. I have been using symbian phone for over a decade (I am not saying that I have never used any other phone/OS but Symbian will always be my preference) and I have never found anything that was not possible with it. For N8, I have been using it since October '10 and have found no issues with it. No Purple tint, No hangups, Battery lasts more than what is expected out of a smart phone. The things that I felt was required has been addressed with the Anna update and if need be in the upcoming Belle update.
I hereby challege anyone who can point a flaw with the symbian OS.
Cheers,
Roy

What has happened is that either you or your friend has unplugged the phone without first safely removing the device using the safe to remove device feature in windows. It happens, I've done it myself.
Hopefully you have a backup of your pictures etc to restore, otherwise they are lost forevever.

I've searched high and low on the internet for information about known viruses that can infect Symbian devices and all I could find was a handful of viruses that were written for old S60 3rd and 5th edition devices. The only way the phone could get infected would be by the owner of the phone to actually install the virus himself by ignoring the very clear security warnings that Symbian would flag up more than once.
Cheers.

First off, I haven't said anything hateful about the N8. I just merely pointed out that it is an old phone with old hardware and a dying OS. Before you say, "what about Belle?", I will tell you that I'm not interested in it. It's basically an Android wannabe clone and a very weak attempt at keeping some sort of interest in Nokia until the Windows phones hit the market.
My particular N8 has been trouble free since I got it last October, apart from the next to useless web browser and that still doesn't work, even after the Anna update. That doesn't bother me though because I use my PC for browsing the internet anyway.
Finally then, I would not recommend anybody to buy an N8 anymore mostly because of its age but more importantly because of its dying OS and Nokia's lack of interest in offering proper support by fixing the bugs in a timely fashion.
All the best.
Ray.
P.S
@ snow_speeder.
What was this extra update you were downloading? Was it Real Golf by any chance?
snow_speeder, 31 Aug 2011it's high in interest also because its a good phone, gr8 hardware specs, with a average symbia... moreVery well put Ray is just having one of his of days. In his world its forth in the popular poll and first in interest because its such a poor phones. Who are the fools are we all unhappy i do not think so very happy N8 owner
it's high in interest also because its a good phone, gr8 hardware specs, with a average symbian Os, witch jst got good with the Anna update, we post not jst the problems but what we like and the reason many post because they know about it or have it, people who write thier problems with nokia n8 might have got those of the bad batch wich i once had it too, i bought a new one and its working good.. love it. many who hate it also criticize about it in all ways they can. simply because they cant accept the fact that is a good phone.. and as all electronic devices not all are perfect few do hv flows but the fact cant be denied that millions of n8 users love their phones and many are yet buying it..
Anonymous, 31 Aug 2011If this is such a crappy phone why is then forth in ratings and first in interest Just wonderi... more I'm usually a bit suspicious of people who post anonymously but I'll respond all the same.
The reason it's first in daily interest is because of all the issues the N8 suffers with. The majority of posts on here are from people asking for advice on how to solve this problem or that.
I was asked my opinion on whether someone should by this phone or the SE Neo. I gave an unbiased and truthful answer, so why have you been so upset that I didn't recommend the N8? It shouldn't matter to you one way or the other, nor will it alter other peoples experiences in owning their N8's.
Don't be so touchy and relax.
Kind regards.
Ray
