i just bought an n8 today and i am wrighting my first review using it... I think the phone is really amazing espesially the gps perfermance and the camera quality what i didnt like is the built-in web browser but opera mobile is a very very good replacement and you wouldnt miss anything.... I really advice people to buy that phone its better than the iphone.... I am still using it without update to anna cause i decided to wait till the belle update is out

As far as I know the purple tint is a hardware fault with the display so it cannot be fixed with a software update.
Nokia have officially acknowledged the fault and have issued a service bulletin to all Nokia Care Points (NCP). However, there are several reports of users going to their local NCP and the staff there claiming to have no knowledge of the defect, denying that the service bulletin exists and informing the customer that the purple tint is normal. Also, some NCP's have agreed to change the screens but have only swapped them with another defective one. Actual good working screens are in short supply and are hard to come by, so it's just luck of the draw if you do get a good replacement screen.
It's not all doom and gloom though. There are some success stories of users getting there screens fixed. Also, newly made N8's should not have the defect as the defect was acknowledged by Nokia some months ago.
The best advice I can give is to visit your local NCP and demand a replacement defect free screen or a replacement defect free N8. Don't let them fob you off with the excuse that the purple tint is normal because it isn't.
Finally, it's always best to be polite and well mannered when dealing with NCP staff as they will be more inclined to help with your issue.

Mine is not even 1 month old, when I purchased I checked for the replacement at the retailer itself, but all the N8's had the same issue. So no point of replacement.
There is no point in taking it to the NCC, because most of them have already confirmed that, even after the Display replacement the issues where same (In some case NCC itself did not give gurantee). By luck if the issue is resolved then you will be lucky, or else you might end up feeling bad for replacement of display without issue getting resolved.
But the issue is only on the mobile, the same picture or video when you put it back on the laptop or your desktop, we cannot see the purple colour issue..
Anna had removed tint from Clock, last hope is belle should remove it complete, if not, NO CHOICE.. we have to get used to it as it is.
