Brightness control by leternsoft, doesn't affect the battery, clears out most of the purple tint, level 4 out of 5 is perfect, level 4 (80%) doesn't affect screen's health, You don't get annoyed by the screen constantly adjusting up and down...
Download the app, it is simple, easy to use and most important is that it lets you adjust the screen brightness in a wide range...
NOTE: Don't adjust the screen more than level 4 (80%), because it could harm the screen after few months, but level 4 is perfect for everything...

@N8 thank you for letting us know that this app hides the purple tint. My screen looks gorgeous and it is not annoying anymore, it doesn't adjust the brightness constantly by itself...
If any one wants to see the difference of the screen after the app, message me @mrdonlucky on twitter
purple tint gone for good :)
brightness control app is not available in some countries. try to look for FORCE CONTROL app in ovi instead, its a good app that includes brightness control but only with 3 options
[deleted post]@ nike: try to look for the FORCE CONTROL app in ovi for brightness control but it has only 3 options for brightness, 25%, 50%,100%

Ive owned my n8 for about 3 months now great phone. Unfortunately mine has the purple tint issue, normally it doesn't bother me but i was watching movies on the plane back from oz and its horrible such a let down. To anyone claiming its the type of screen watch a darkish movie and it will soon become apparent its more than a slight tint.
On a lighter note my mate with his Igayphone borrowed my n8 because his doesn't have free maps (with directions) or a flash for the camera haha. Priceless him asking to borrow my phone after i give him so much greif about being a crapple fanboy.
