Hello... guyz i intend to buy N8, so at the time deilvery, what should i carefully look for.. i mean what can be the faults to check for before leaving the mobile shop..!!!

AnonD-1393, 05 May 2011As far as I know symbian^3 phones can play MKV files bigger than 2GB. The problem is something... morenope....i use c7. I hv tested all format in my phone.
When i play mkv file....only audio is able to play, not video. And only mp4, 3gp file is shown on menu gallery. You have to go to file manager to play other format.

Even majority of users who complain and whine about that infamous purple screen still choose to keep their N8. It would be nice if one got a perfect screen but a purple screen doesn't hamper one from still enjoying his phone and letting it do what it is intended to do. N8 is just too good a device to just let it go. You can count the purple screen as one of N8's cons. Just like every other device, there are always pros and cons. What's important is that the pros far outnumber and outweigh the cons. And besides, Nokia have already acknowledged the defect, though I feel they should have publicized it more. And in fairness, their Nokia Care centers have been very helpful to attending to and did all they could to solve this problem. It's just that this problem can't be sorted out. I guess it's not Nokia's fault anymore but the AMOLED display manufacturer's.

Yorj, 05 May 2011I was gifted a Nokia N8 mobile.. but when am inserting my simcard its saying "SIM CARD NO... moreIt could be that your phone is network locked. A network locked phone does not recognize any other SIM card other than its mother network.

You mean to say that it still have the defect only to a lesser extent. I really don't understand how you guys can live with a phone knowing it have a defect and be happy about it. A defect is a defect even to a lesser extent.

manish , 05 May 2011it might be your sim card problem...coz i havent faced such problems yet...I think your phone is not unlocked for any carrier. That is the usual message when that hapens.

Guyz, I would like to share to you my experience on this handset.
Last week, I bought N8 and found out that it was having this purple screen problem, though it is not always noticeable, but in low light, specially when watching dark videos,you can see purple tint every where, and the video playback is also pixellated.
I called the shop where I bought it from, and told them 'bout the problem. They advised me to go to the NCC and guest what? The nearest NCC from our place is 110KM away. But not a problem, we just drove the way using the Ovi Maps, and the trip was excellently guided by my faulty N8.
They just first examine my device, in my surprise, the purple is not visible when I was showing them my N8. I requested them to look for it outside (already 9PM) and the manager saw what I was talkin' about.
They did not replace the screen but they just requested and called the Store to replace mine with a brand new - defect-free N8. I was so happy that I receive this New N8 as it is almost defect-free. It is still having slight purple in the clock but not that noticeable, totally disappears even with ordinary light. The video playback is not pixellated and the purple tint in the video is not anymore appearing. I just hope the next update will totally resolve this issue.
(It took me 1 hour to explain the problem with the NCC guys because they are speaking Arabic.)
N8 is a superb device you just have to check it thoroughly for defects before leaving the store if you don't want ending with so much problem.
