I solved the problem about how the purple tint is caused...
I have compared 10 different amoled screens...
I got the special test images and put them all together..
And guess what? All of them had a slight purple tint. But some more than others...
So, as I studied this, I discovered that 50% of this is an amoled feature and they struggle to display dark gray sometimes.. 25% is caused by the light sensor... in the dark tint rises... and 25 % is the negative drivers... Nokia has put some faulty drivers that give the screen wrong informations...
But know that all of the amoled screens have this problem but sometimes it is very hard to spot them...
If you don't believe, I will post the video soon...
uniwega, 27 Apr 2011The questions is for Ray Hipkiss, he seems to be reliable answering questions about the n8.
The problem with the screen seems to be a complex one.
There are some with a definite purple defect, which can be easily identified by looking at the Analogue screen saver. If the top half of the clock is purple, then you have a defective screen. If the clock is entirely silver/white, then your screen is most likely fine. Now, what makes this complicated is this: the N8 has an AMOLED screen which does tend to show a slight pink tint when the screen is at it's dimmest, and also when the screen brightness changes from dim to bright and vice versa, but then goes away once the screens brightness settles. That unfortunately is the nature of AMOLED screens. It's the same with the Samsung Galaxy S.
So if your screen is definitely faulty ( half purple clock )
it will need to be repaired by Nokia.
The firmware update once known as PR 2.0, now known as Anna has been scheduled for release this summer. So we're looking at July / August at the latest. It is already available for new handsets being sold today, but not the N8 yet.
The Anna update is the big update all N8 owners are looking forward to, and will be a deciding factor on whether Symbian will survive just that little bit longer.
All the best.

That's one of the signs of the motherboard defect. Take your N8 to a NCC and have them check your device. They might need to replace your motherboard.
Here's a link to N8's motherboard defect.

I've got that phone for a while now, been working fine. There is a slight issue with that screen. So, this one cant be fixed by software update right?
Also, do you have any idea when pr2.0 will be available?
AnonD-2725, 27 Apr 2011Only a 680 mhz processor? that's a poor show.FYI, that 680mhz processor is as good as some 1ghz out there since N8 runs on Symbian which is the most resource effective OS out there.

Bob, 27 Apr 2011Hi, How do i use FM stereo on my N8?you need to plug in your headphones's N8
some one please help me
is n8 a good phone ?
is it worth buying?
it is a little expensive and i don't want to waste my money .because some cellphones just seem to have lots of abilities but in action they are nothing,so please help.
guys i find that when i enter applications it is super laggy and takes about 10 sec for me to even start scrolling.Guys what should i do please help me with this
Bob, 27 Apr 2011Yes, i plugged it but i don't know where to access the stereo FM@Bob. To access the FM Radio, just goto Applications and select the Radio app. It's about five rows down. As previously mentioned, don't forget the headphones. They need to be plugged in as they act as the antenna.
Have you also tried using Nokia Internet Radio app, available from the Ovi store? Highly recommended, and you don't need to use the headphones as an antenna as it uses your 3G or Wi-Fi signal.
