I dont understand why there are so many people complaining. The best thing about this phone is its RELIABLE.
Im writing this to say in this is my first most pleasing phone in a good ten years! ( and trust me ive had many) Ive brought mine here on holiday here in Mauritius from the UK and this has to be the best gadget ive had in years- better even than my Samsung I8910 (been loyal to this for years) or apple iphone 4 ( rubbish hardware and camera, the best apps on a phone by miles) !
This is why :
- 12mpixel Carl Zeius camera - excellent faultless pictures even in low light conditions like at night. See my videos of firework filming on youtube!
- Expandable memory - explains itself.
-hdmi output - im playing divx's and recordings on my cousins plasma at really high quality - no burning dvds, or bull**it copy protection software/conversion drag and drop!
- fast interface - visually it runs faster and smoother than my iphone.
- you can play flvs,mp4s effortlessly, ideal for converted you tube vids ;)
-mp3 player- easy to navigate and happy that even my old nokia n95 remote handsfree happily works on it meaning I can choose the headphones I use.
- its reliable - no crashes, no slowdown, no b*llocks involving dropped calls or mic issues like with the iphone 4. ( The only reason i dont get rid of my iphone4 is because the apps are flawless else id have chucked it out of the window long ago)
Thanks to all this I can happily enjoy my holiday without needing to carry multiple gadgets, its my camera, my camcorder, my video recorder, video player, my skype phone, my mobile, and even my storage card. Nokia thank you for producing such a brilliant device, my loyalty to you clearly has paid off.
Ive previously enjoyed my Samsung i8910hd for years but finally its time to let it go :)
If anyone would be interested in sample pics/vids please feel free to look at my fb profile. Many thanks.

It could be that something is wrong with the proximity sensor causing the phone screen to stay on and you may not have noticed it and it activates the speaker mode when it touches your face.
There are others experiencing the same problem and you are not alone.
[deleted post]You can't buy a phone without a samsung component inside it. LOL. Nokia N8's screen, processor and internal flash memory is manufactured by samsung. They are supergiant in electronics world and every company uses at least one samsung product in their final products. Like AMOLED screens in HTC or A4 processor in iPhone. haha.
rdca, 16 Mar 2011My observation on my n8,
My n8 its shown dark brown in analog clock in the dark place, but ... moreIt's been speculated that the defect appears to be faulty drivers of the screen. Your problem seems to be caused by the light sensor of the phone. Have you tried to load the test images on tv out/hdmi out? It should display the proper color on your tv. Load the test image in the gallery and connect your N8 to your tv. It should show the test image in its proper color while appearing purplish on your N8.
Nokia already admitted the defect. Tell your local NC to look for the bulletin on the data base. It is not emailed to each NC as far as I know and they have to search for the bulletin themselves on the data base.
I spoke to the head of NC in Greenhills over the phone last week and he seems to be clueless about the issue. He never repplied to my follow-up text message.

Nokiausers.net forum member Buxz777 was banned several times at the official Nokia forums for starting out some threads about the purple screen defect. After getting banned a few times, he was able to get ahold of somebody up there and he was unbanned and was able to post his thread. Nokia was trying to cover up the defect at first but buxz777 made a lot of noise about the issue and was ultimately able to get Nokia's attention.
5th post from the top. buzx777 was banned for posting a thread with a poll on how many N8s were defective.
Below are excerpts from from CEO STEPHEN ELOP based on GSMARENA Article dated Feb. 09,2011--SAD BUT TRUE. Nokia bridge is falling down.
"...Consumer preference for Nokia declined worldwide. In the UK, our brand preference has slipped to 20 percent, which is 8 percent lower than last year. That means only 1 out of 5 people in the UK prefer Nokia to other brands. It's also down in the other markets, which are traditionally our strongholds: Russia, Germany, Indonesia, UAE, and on and on and on.
How did we get to this point? Why did we fall behind when the world around us evolved?
This is what I have been trying to understand. I believe at least some of it has been due to our attitude inside Nokia. We poured gasoline on our own burning platform. I believe we have lacked accountability and leadership to align and direct the company through these disruptive times. We had a series of misses. We haven't been delivering innovation fast enough. We're not collaborating internally.
Nokia, our platform is burning."

You are lucky to get a perfect unit but a lot of defective units are still in the wild and Nokia should do a recall to prevent the public from getting a defective unit.

Before releasing their products, it should have been thoroughly tested. It seems they just approve the shipments of phones without the thorough testing, or management says so to approve the phones regardless if it has defects. Is that just for the money? Oh shame. Don't you think that's abusing Nokia fanatics of their trust? Nokia users who bought their phones should receive the same value for what they paid for. This is an expensive phone, just to realize defects exist in this phone. This is BRAND NEW, defective phones as BRAND NEW means defects were made during PRODUCTION, and still they shipped the faulty products. How many years more Nokia? another 10years of faulty products?
