I am not a Nokia N8 user,but I own a HTC Desire.
I am facing the same problem with "purple display screen problem" same as yours!
the reason is AMOLED screen!

very good phone with all advanced technology...... but it looks much costly for what it has.......
Nuwan you are one who used to give feedback at Nokia 5530 forum if im not wrong ,,,,,,,,,any way a defect is defect,,,,,,,,must replace n8..minen8 is good and lovt it.
Where can I buy N8 without defects? What if i sell this phone & buy a new N8 & encountered the same problem. Its true that some N8 screen is perfect. I have proven personally. That is my original Finland made N8. But it is true also that some N8 is suffering with red violet screen. That is the N8 that I have with me right now after replacing it. If anybody can guaranty an N8 available here in Bahrain then maybe I would give Nokia another chance to buy their products.

I dont believe all Nokia Care in the whole world have the same care as you have in your country. I'm sorry to say but I don't trust the Nokia Care here in Bahrain. One time by mistake I forget the phone lock code so I surrender it the Nokia Care to reformat my phone. After a couple of days they surprised me that they replaced it with a different mother board & of course new IMEI#, my original Nokia has no problem at all, I mean playing videos is so clear not like the one I have right now, (Maybe the owner of this N8 is one of the staffs in Nokia Care In Bahrain & he/she is interested to swap it with my original N8 after realizing it is better than the N8 that I have with me right now. I'm not sure!) I'm tired of facing such untrusted persons in Nokia Care. If only Nokia focused on manufacturing a perfect screen, then customers are not facing these kind of problems at all.
IVe had my N8 since November. Works fine. No shutting down, no amoled problems. Am I that lucky? Sometimes you get the impression that the issues are so prevalent while some may be non-existent and others few and far between. For those who genuinely have problems, my sympathies. Too bad something is preventing you from enjoying N8's wonderful features.

People here are free to voice their opinions may it be positive or negative. Those who experienced the purple screen are free to post their comments to serve as a warning to those who might get a defective N8 with a purple screen. One more thing... not everyone can go to Nokia Care like it's the local grocery store. Some live hundreds of miles away from the nearest NC and going there is pure hassle and takes time and money. Let them voice their dissatisfaction so that Nokia will learn from their mistakes. Ignoring the problem will not solve it and being silent about it only puts more people at risk of getting an N8 with defective purple screens.

The N8 is selling like hotcakes here and all people love it some complain about the OS but its ok not all people like high curves of learning!! the phone is beautiful and feels great in the hand and is miles ahead of anything in hardware!! Samsung feels cheap compared to the N8! Only the I4 is as good looking but is not as sturdy! we get a lot of broken ones here!! my 2 cents!!

I read so many things about this damn purple problem... I would say, it's pretty normal... It's a default thing about AMOLED technology.. What they say about 'Non Purple Perfect N8' are not true... (They're saying to upset everybody...! Because everybody has that thing in their mobiles so none of them will be happy... They'll think, 'I have the defective one... while some of others have the perfect ones...!')
You may check it by yourself... For certain Themes it's visible... For certain themes it's not... And what they say about it 'So ugly... can't even watch a movie...' is not true.. I have seen this purple thing in certain occasions when it comes to gray color parts of the screen... But I've never been bothered by it when watching a movie...
Honestly speaking, I didn't even realize this purple thing before people are commenting about it.. So for me, this is not really a fault.. This is a created fault to upset people...
So stop lying and upsetting N8 users... If you feel not ok of using your N8... Just sell it without harassing it...
Tried Nokia N8 with a USB mouse and USB Key board... It took only 3 seconds to identify the peripherals and then everything worked like a dream...! Keyboard inputs were so fast and instant though Mouse pointer movement was bit laggy... Anyway the experience was wonderful...
Here's what I can do... I can connect a USB keyboard with a Bluetooth mouse... (Both in the same time...) and Connect the mobile in to a HDMI TV or Projector... (If not available to a Normal TV Even...) and do almost anything that I can do in a computer... (Watching a Movie - the most frequent thing I do in my PC..., Editing a Word or excel file, Editing a video or photo, Surfing internet and sharing with my friends...) In a HD quality big screen...!
When I'm doing those using a mouse and a keyboard with a huge HDMI quality screen, everybody will wonder, 'Where is the damn computer....?'
Who would believe it's this tiny mobile device which does all....?
I own a N8 since jan 2011 and so far so good no freeze,no bugs, dont know why but the battery have improved a little by time now as today my bat. gets me 10.5 hrs of talk,8 hrs of wifi and 5 days of stand by all times r estimated, i recommend the N8, if ur not familiar with nokia this phone has a learning curve and is NOT AN IPHONE, dont judge this phone or other phones if u dont have them.

Anonymous, 04 Mar 2011I think if you got purple reddish N8 screen same as mine you will react the same as me, but on... moreyou guys talk of the purple screen issue as though it were any thing. its only evident in the screen saver for Gods sake. its irrepairable unless you change the screen. if it irritates you that much, fisable the screen saver or install a flash based one.
