Anonymous, 17 Feb 2011For me Nokia doesnt have to use other OS like Windows7, Linux Maemo, MeeGo, or Android. What t... morenokias decision to switch to wp is not cuz they couldn't make symbian more competitive. They were basically future proofing their company. Mac users would always buy I phones. Symbian can't run on pc. Marketed properly, windows phone would in coming years become the must poplar platform of them all because of its pc relations. Microsoft would make windows phone so attractive to pc users that it would be considered a necessity.

[deleted post]dude dont get me wrong, its not the ui or os itself, but people sometime want something different from what ever they have/ have had before. i mean from the first sight not after skinned.

the annoying thing about nokia n8 is the wifi connectivity. It says im connected to my wifi home service but does not seem to be connected on the net at all. It keeps on saying failure to upload, unable to access... why can't nokia update the wifi connectivity and make it stable.

I'm a fan of Android, and especially HTC and Sense. But for the discounts that I have, because I work in Tigo Paraguay, buy the nokia n8. And the truth is a great phone, obviously does not reach the height of android or ios4, but improve many key things about symbian s60 v5, besides an improvement of the interface and many features that brings the hardware, I say this primarily by comparing the X6, which is really a very very very very bad phone, really a disappointment! Because I had that phone. In my opinion, you just have Adobe 10.1, and if it was at least 512 of ram, it would be fighting with the best, it is my opinion!

For me Nokia doesnt have to use other OS like Windows7, Linux Maemo, MeeGo, or Android. What they just need to do is to develop the Symbian very intensively, they are almost there on the top, a bit more improvements, lessen all the step by step confirmation asking by the phone in evey commands or actions you do to the phone that makes the users to be annoyed (like the web browser), make it direct to the point & quick response. It is big adjustments for the customers to have a Nokia operated by other OS.

Symbian 3 is not that good as android, but I don't know why I love Symbian 3, its because the longer you get used to it the more you will love it. It reminds me of my old Nokia phones by heart. It is so simple yet so sentimental.

Why do you think Nokia is not doing anything to make their UI the best also? as of now their UI is not the best in the market, but I'm sure after an intensive study Nokia's UI will be the best also, UI is easier to develop than to create a hardware that last for life, like having an antenna that has very clear reception, & a battery that stays for longer time, In fact Symbian 3 had a lot of improvements compared to S60v5 in just a short period of time, Do you think Symbian 3 is a boring UI? You r wrong, there are lots of software applications applicable & compatible only in Symbian, others UI is so tricky, it makes you forget about the hardware features of the phone, and the phone you bought will be good for a year only because its hardware will not last for life.

what if people needs variation, radical variation of ui.
i think its not only about who is better. it could be just because others look new.

watch how tough, how heavy duty Nokia N8 is. So why choose other brand? Its only all about android UI but hardware wise it wont last, but Nokia will not frustrate you, it is a phone that will stay on you for life. UI is not what a phone is all about, but how it serves you in everyday use. Think wisely, spend money wisely.

For an N8 in the USA. Where can one find the 1.1 update? When I try updating with OVI it tells me that there are no firmware updates, just the game updates.

If so, your going to have to wait longer than any one else.
That's if 3 UK decide to approve the update at all, in which case you may not get the update.
Sorry, but 3 UK are pretty useless when it comes to software and firmware updates for mobile phones.
