Frank, 12 Feb 2011Nope not finish QT is still developing all symbian with their updates+ more apps.that was only a lie from Nokia how can it be develop if developers are already been fired by Nokia.
Yes Nokia will gradually discard Symbian, mayb e7 will be the last one, whereas for n9 using MeeGo OS still a doubt.
yad, 12 Feb 2011is it true nokia will be finish symbian OS plz reply thanks in advanceNope not finish QT is still developing all symbian with their updates+ more apps.
What does that mean for already existing symbian users? Would be nice if we had the option of OS upgrade/change for existing phones, or better yet dual boot
this phone is cheap for its price for the last symbian flag ship of nokia.
I for one can't wait for Nokia to start using WM7, yes symbian has more features, but they always feel not finished to me. and hopefully Nokia will rub off onto microsoft and make them impliment alot of the features like Bluetooth file transfer, multitasking etc that wm7 is missing. But most of all I want when nokia says pr1.1 available its like iOS and is available to everyone & everywhere been waiting a week for my n8 update now.
Cant believe how much people (myself included) are caught up with these things. Interesting news, mind you. But such strong reactions! Lets see how much in practical term this move really benefits consumers. Minus the hype and OS fan loyalty, to what extent will it really improve the quality of our lives? Will we be better husbands, wives, sons and daughter, citizens, better people? Everything has its place in this world- God, family, friends, my job, even my beloved N8. Let's keep everything in its proper place. The way some behave you wonder if mobile brands and OS will soon be a discriminatory factor alongside race, color and class. Diversity is good. So is competition. I prefer to support that which gives me a choice than that which eliminate all competition. I hope the movers and shakers of the mobile industry are as passionate about us (US, not our money) as we are about their products. Just something to think about. Enjoy your N8s people.
i am from Malaysia. No update available (pr1.1) for my n8 since 7 feb. How long Nokia will release update for all product code? 1week, 2weeks, or 1month? My product code 059D1G2.. I am tired waiting for this update..:(
abhi, 11 Feb 2011Hahaha... wp7 is worst when compared to symbian & maemo(functionality wise). This is what... moreIts version one. I had a g1 when everyone laughed about Android from preorder. We didn't have mms, video calling, video recording, copy and paste, turn by turn nav, and I can name a bunch more. Look where they r 3 yrs later. Same with the iPhone. Lets not even talk maemo. It will take a yr or so to get right but to u people who just started buying smartphones I got my first one in 2002. It was Symbian and still looks the sane today. Then I owned 3 windows devices b4 going to Android. Windows mobile had every option u just mentioned, so what make u think they won't offer the same functionality this time. Its a new os and will take a yr or so to get right. U need to stop reading articles and go play with one because WP7 runs circles around Symbian. And just to prove I ain't biased I still own a vibrant and a Nokia e73 and just returned my awesome n900. My HD7 Is the the best ever and I luv it.
Nokia N8 is the best phone i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!....unbeliveable 12 mp camera and also very fast with excelent application function....NOKIA N8 GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
IT IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT,IT IS WHAT YOU DO!!!!!
Anonymous, 11 Feb 2011U r 100% wrong! U must go play with the new WP7 devices. It is built from the ground up and ... moreHahaha... wp7 is worst when compared to symbian & maemo(functionality wise).
This is what symbian offers but not wp7 -
No system-wide file manager No videocalling Limited third-party apps availability No Bluetooth file transfers No USB mass storage mode No multitasking No copy/paste Too dependent on Zune software for computer file management and syncing No music player equalisers No Flash or Silverlight support in the web browser No sign of free Bing maps Navigation so far No DivX/XviD video support No internet tethering support New ringtones available only through the Marketplace Swapping memory card requires hard reset; cards not readable by computer No customisation the turkeys have combined.... to become a chicken not an eagle.....
What does ur wp7 offer ??? Absolutely nothing ......
Nice phone byt has some firmware issues.... Although iit awesomeeeee
ill still buy n8 but ill wait till its price drops to 50%, ill use it as my phone per se not on anything else,
rdca, 11 Feb 2011Yeah Your Right, Nokia make a wrong decision, No one Windows Phone can be hit a million sold o... moreU r 100% wrong! U must go play with the new WP7 devices. It is built from the ground up and is nothing like windows mobile was. It is the most stable UI i have ever messed with. I have the HD7 and it never freezes or lags. It is hands down the best phone i ever had and I have owned 5 androids, 3 symbians, 4 old winmo devices, and an N900. The browser is like the N900, but doesn't support flash yet, the UI is better than all the competition and makes android feel dated, the OS is butter smooth just like the iphone. Seriously, keep an open mind and when u get a chance go play with one. Netflix, Zune, and Xbox
AnonD-808, 11 Feb 2011engadget is hellbound in bringing nokia down..... see this http://flapic.amplify.com/2011/02/1... moreMaemo and the N900 was abandoned and now Symbian. I bet u will get one update and thats it. So much for Symbian 4
Hello guys, I'm from the America region, so far I'm been unable to update my mobile with the PR 1.1 software version, not available trough OVI suite nor trough the Software Update application in the mobile itself, any clues?
Thanks a lot in advance.
What has happened to nokia. .. Why they are going with microsoft ... They would have with android.... Again they would have improved symbain stability and user interface... Or would have developed their own os like samsung....i think meego also have some serious problems like symbain in adapting new technology and hardware so they are going with microsoft... Very bad decision... One day nokia may change their name also to microNokia there may be no nokia name at all...
