Guyz need help!!!!!!!
whn im trying to download 'symtorrent' frm OVI, it gives me option to save it in Phone memry n Card nt available. its nt giving any option of Mass memory , whn i tried to save tht in phne memory, its nt getting saved!!!!
Need gud suggestion!!!Plz guide me

Anonymous, 02 Feb 2011You need an active data connection, its free navigation onli if you have free data traffic on ... moreOh, I missed this funny piece, Any GPS device needs GPS data (Comes from GPS satellite, No connection with the Data network) to get the position. Free Navigation means you are not charged for the voice thats guides you through navigation. A map program (Google map, it also provide free navigation in select regions in android) can calculate the path and display it on the screen and show your movement. But in case of Gmap it needs data to download the map only one rout at a time is cached, If you change your route in the middle, due to traffic or to simply fuel up, it will again need data to recalculate and re download the map. Where in OVI you can store the map in phone so basically No need of data connection for GPS navigation. Its truly free and usable, where iPhone (Has Gmap, No Navigation) or Any android (they call it free navigation) will need data to proceed on navigation (At least to display the map). So decide who is Joking.
Unfortunately you have touched the area where Nokia is strong like a hell and Google doing the catch up game, to put Nokia down, It wont work for you.

bogs28, 02 Feb 2011can anyone help me? i am having problems with gps lock because it keeps on saying "search... moreProbably you just buy it (I mean your N8)and therefore the version of OviMaps is kind of old and have some problems (specially if you've been installing new apps because the mainly problem is about memory). So I recommend you download OviMaps from OviStore again and reinstalled (the new version is available), at the end of the installation it'll ask you if you want to erase your old version, say yes and then try again. This should work, if not you have to check what apps are consuming memory and close them (mainly the mail).

I use my N8's offline navigation very often. In fact it is our preferred choice of navigation device when I drive with my friend, because my N8 always beats his Tom-Tom in cold start and we really love the suffer dude voice.
The highest CPU I could find on a Tom Tom device (Go live 1005, Priced at £299.99) is 500 MHz ARM 11 and RAM is 128 MB. Mind it they are stand alone GPS devices. N8 has 680 MHz Arm 11 and The maps can be rendered using GPU.
In my opinion, GPS lock time in N8 is not at all coupled with the CPU, It has enaugh resource under the hood to process GPS Almanac and map data. Again sensitivity of the GPS antenna may have an impact, But read this
"In very poor signal conditions, for example in a city, these signals may suffer multipath propagation where signals bounce off buildings, or be weakened by passing through atmospheric conditions, walls or tree cover. When first turned on in these conditions, some standalone GPS navigation devices may not be able to work out a position due to the fragmentary signal, rendering them unable to function until a clear signal can be received continuously for up to 12.5 minutes" - Wikipedia.
That is where we need A-GPS.

the flash on this phn is totally disappointing....hv been using this fr 2 mnths...its nt much powerful...nd moreova the zoom is also pretty less...should hv had mre....image quality in low light is nt that good bt in day light its awesome...the largest sensor is good bt smetimes can be a snag..as wen we point it towards the light or sky the image goes dark even in daytime...besides that it is a gr8 phn...anyways any news of the update..??

Other than that, you won't get the GPS activated.

Anonymous, 02 Feb 2011why is my nokia n8 always freezing? help pls. i had the same problem of the phone freesing but it just start to happen after i have put in a 4gig memory card whit music on it when i took the card out the problem stopt u must use a class4 card or higher mine were lower.

Anonymous, 02 Feb 2011why is my nokia n8 always freezing? help pls. You must have installed an app that is eating up all your RAM. Get a Handy Task Manager and close all the apps running in the back ground and see how you go.
If still the same give it a factory reset and it should be okay.

H... moreSo far I´ve been travelling a lot to diferent countries and cities in Europe, so I´ve been using the gps a lot in offline mode, so far so good, never had any trouble except that sometimes Ovi maps is not so accurate but still takes me to destiny. So again, in my experience since I´ve been using the n8(about a month), the gps works really well in offline mode.

gitty, 01 Feb 2011i have wifi connection in my N8 and i want to use it in my laptop compaq ! How to do it ? I do... moredude if u want to connect ur laptop through n8 wifi .... then 1stly u hav to instal the software name joiku spot premium....... it is available in ovi store or u can download frm any symbian app site... just download and install to u nokia n8. then start and connect to ur 3g or edge operator setting..... then automatically it will show in ur laptop as a wifi ...... then connect to it.....enjoyyyyyyyyy n8ing

Sorry to say, Nokia has weak GPS signal, and N8 is no exception. Snapdragon chipsets are insanely much better, can get a fairly accurate satelite GPS lock within the minute when AGPS is disabled.

Silly question, have you already downloaded the maps form ovi store? Sorry I can´t help you specifically with your problem but I never had any issues with the gps. And again I want to hidghlight that you don´t need internet to use the gps

if you dont get a good tower than keep it near to your pants u will get a good signal..
