Itz awesome... A Great smart phone ever made.. have look it and feel the difference..
To disable 3G network mode press menu button-tools-settings-network and switch to GSM and your phone will reboot to GSM mode. I havent noticed much difference between UMTS or GSM battery wise though. With GSM you probably get an extra half a day or so.
if you really think that SE is crappy
my brother is having SE and it fell from him like lets say a million times and nothing happened to it and if you are upset that SE produces a new product with the same features- although thats not true, they aren't the same features at all- what about nokia n90, n91, n92, n93, n70, n71...........
comeon thats just the nseries..
i'm not against nokia at all, i think its the best in mobile phones..but be honest
and if you think that SE is crappy what about siemens???
Had my N80 for 2 days now and continue to be amazed. Wifi is a great idea, the gallery system is genius and with this amount of features its not going to be the quickest phone in the world. 'Chrome like' front and a classy black plastic base looks great with the neon blue lights. Hasn't crashed once. Sound quality rivals the sony walkman and the camera provides amazing quality aswell as a whole host of options and effects including shutter speed etc! what more do you want in a phone? a flash lite player and a web browser that gives you pc like websites? why not! this phone has everything bar a gold plates toilet seat. - apparently that wasn't on the cards.
Some of the Major shortcoming N80 are, CONSUMES TOO MUCH BATTERY(INEFFICIENT BATTERY),hanging up of the phone while using simultanous features, more weight and non slim, camera quality below standard 3m. and uneasy for putting in the pocket in short seema fragile to use
yes my friend it takes 24-48 hours here in Saudi Arabia to upgrade the firmware. I have previously sent an email to Nokia.com asking about this and they replied that it is a very normal time needed for such a major task if the official Nokia dealers are overloaded. Actually it has nothing to do with overload, it is procedure, period.
I think most, if not all, other premium mobile manufactures make the firmware available online for download, so the user can do it using the PC suite. Why Nokia is not doing this?!
I am trying to be cool regarding the N80, so I will upgrade the firmware next week and see how much better the mobile is.
No hard feelings.
I was planning to get N80 before its launching. But upon looking at the real phone, I changed my mind though it has a lot of features. To me Nokia7650 is still the best looking sliding phone to date. Now I am waiting for the SE P990 and hope it won't disappoint me like N80!
does anyone know any software to control tv's vcr's dvd'd etc using N80..
the blue lite is to let u know the fone is still on wen the screen goes off, u can deactivate it by goint to:settings/phone/sleep mode OFF
Ok so ive had the n80 a couple of days now. Cant really flaunt it. Its done everything great so far, really impressed with the camera and the features on it. Music quality is great and all in such a good looking phone.
One thing is really bugging me, does anyone know what the blue flashing light is for on the top left of the screen. Looked all through the manual and it doesnt say a thing! really starting to get on my nerves, it doesnt flash all the time. Just wondering what it is!
Please help someone!
Great piece of hardware that could really use better software. I am dissapointed because of the bugs in the firmware. Often crashes, reboots, freezes, etc. Come on Nokia, get those ugly bugs killed!
ok sorry if I hurt your feelings with my post, but it really amazes me how many people complain about the Nokia N80's thickness. Just THINK people, You cant really complain about a phone thickness (especially this one) with all those features....
Sony Ericcson W900 anyone? (http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_w900-pictures-1325.php)
-24 hours? where do you live?
-"The 6230i didn't have autofocus, but it was also lighter, smaller, and way chaper."
Everything that has Wifi included is more expensive
-Buy a higher/bigger Mini SD card then (again, they are CHEAP)
-If you are going to upgrade, wait 1 more month or something (if you are not going to sale it) wait 'till the latest firmware version comes out.... and upgrade it again after a couple of months....
I dont work for nokia, but I really love/like Nokia phones, since none of them failed or broke while i was using 'em.
And personally, i DO think that SE phones are crappy (sorry GSMarena, but that's what I think) It seems that sony releases a new model every 2 weeks with the same functionalities but with a new design........ and naming them "Walkman" by sony after finishing them.
I don't know why you are so upset with my review (as if you are working in Nokia).
Regarding the points:
1) The battery depends upon the use of everyone, but (by chance) I really know at least 3 guys with my same comment about the battery.
2) I don't really blame gsmarena, as if I am going to sue them or anything. However, I do believe that they were in Nokia biased in their review.
3) The (out of memory) happens while no applications are open (I have not really installed any application, yet, since they are hard to find), and I know the C button function. This is my third Nokia smart phone. Memory, almost all memory is free, since nothing is installed.
4) Really this is happening, and I presonally tried it in another 2 sets.
5) Thanks for the great tip ;) I know these settings, and I do think you should check some mobile reviews sites, since almost all of them mentioned the video issue.
6) The 6230i didn't have autofocus, but it was also lighter, smaller, and way chaper.
7) Same as my answer above (point 3).
8) I am planning to do so, and by the way, it takes 24 hours here to do the upgrade.
9) I am smoking something now, really ( I will not tell you what since it is irreleavent).
10) It is as thick as i mate, I guess.
and don't you think SE mobiles are, at least, as good as Nokia?
Take it easy...
i cant realy say what settings u need to use coz it all depends on lighting situation! anyway if ur taking a pic on a very sunny day then lower the exposure so the WHITE in the pic dnt luk over exposed but dnt lower it to much, put the image sharnes to high so it gives better detail, u mite want to adjust the brightnes a tad higher and DNT use the zoom as it decreases quality, if ur shooting a macro mode make sure the flash is OFF, another thing is leave the WHITE BALENCE to auto and in image mode leave it to auto or try the user option, these settings shud give u a decent pic! try it out and c, u may need to adjust exposure and brightnes to get the pic just rite but dnt adjust them to much, wen u take a macro shot make sure the thing ur taking the pic of is around 20 cm frm the camera as this is the n80s "sweet spot" and will produce a stuning pic, also remember to have the sun behind u as much as u can, it dnt matter if its over ur shoulder but make sure it isnt facing u! also hold fone as still as pos! enjoy.
To Night Silence:
First of all, there few things that i WANT to point out and clarify,
1)Battery is OK, everything depends on how you use your phone. To fix the battery make sure to change your network settings to GSM (if you are not using 3G) If you have Wifi and Bluetooth (or anything else) on at the same time all day long, that will also eat your battery. So this really depends, because i own a N80 and the battery is perfect, i use the phone to take photos, wifi and calls (all that with more than 24 Hrs for real)
2)I dont know why you are saying that the GSMarena fooled you, just because the fact that they DID mention that the upper buttons of the keypad was hard to use/press. So nothing there to blame GSMarena
3)The “out of memory” you are talking about is due to 2 main reasons: -You have TOO many applications open, to clear this press and hold the menu button 'till a small menu comes out and close those extras applications with the "C" button -Your Mini SD is not big enough and you have to many things installed or photos. Just clear some memory or get a bigger mini SD card (they are CHEAP btw)
4)I dont know whats wrong with ur phone, but mine shows the contact(s) even if you press the 1st letter. So, I dun really know whatzup with ur phone....
5) WRONG!!!! Dont ever compare old phones with new phones. And if you want better video, use or try to use the settings and the modes (such as the brightness, etc....) they are there for a reason you know? This is a REAL Camera phone with image/video settings.
6)Did the nokia 6230i have autofocus included? (seriously, i dun remember)
7) Fix your memory and make sure that you dun have too many applications open/running
8)The N80 is still using a very new version of its firmware (the same thing happened with my 6630) and i fixed it by upgrading it. Just take it to a nokia center and upgrade it for free (in less than 30 min).
9)I didnt know about that (i thought that it was only a contacts call issue) this should be solved by the next firmware version.
10) TOO THICK!??!!??! DUDE, WHAT ON EARTH YOU ARE SMOKING?!?!
-2!!! two!!!!! CAMERAS (MAIN ONE OF 3 MEGAPIXELS!!!)
-MAN, IM TIRED OF TYPING..........
I'm really sorry 'bout such a large post but THINK PEOPLE! THINK B4 bashing something, especially this wonderful piece of hardware........
Trade it then! Better for us (another new N80 for someone to enjoy) Make sure to get a Sony ericsson!!! ;-)
