To Night Silence:
First of all, there few things that i WANT to point out and clarify,
1)Battery is OK, everything depends on how you use your phone. To fix the battery make sure to change your network settings to GSM (if you are not using 3G) If you have Wifi and Bluetooth (or anything else) on at the same time all day long, that will also eat your battery. So this really depends, because i own a N80 and the battery is perfect, i use the phone to take photos, wifi and calls (all that with more than 24 Hrs for real)
2)I dont know why you are saying that the GSMarena fooled you, just because the fact that they DID mention that the upper buttons of the keypad was hard to use/press. So nothing there to blame GSMarena
3)The “out of memory” you are talking about is due to 2 main reasons: -You have TOO many applications open, to clear this press and hold the menu button 'till a small menu comes out and close those extras applications with the "C" button -Your Mini SD is not big enough and you have to many things installed or photos. Just clear some memory or get a bigger mini SD card (they are CHEAP btw)
4)I dont know whats wrong with ur phone, but mine shows the contact(s) even if you press the 1st letter. So, I dun really know whatzup with ur phone....
5) WRONG!!!! Dont ever compare old phones with new phones. And if you want better video, use or try to use the settings and the modes (such as the brightness, etc....) they are there for a reason you know? This is a REAL Camera phone with image/video settings.
6)Did the nokia 6230i have autofocus included? (seriously, i dun remember)
7) Fix your memory and make sure that you dun have too many applications open/running
8)The N80 is still using a very new version of its firmware (the same thing happened with my 6630) and i fixed it by upgrading it. Just take it to a nokia center and upgrade it for free (in less than 30 min).
9)I didnt know about that (i thought that it was only a contacts call issue) this should be solved by the next firmware version.
10) TOO THICK!??!!??! DUDE, WHAT ON EARTH YOU ARE SMOKING?!?!
-2!!! two!!!!! CAMERAS (MAIN ONE OF 3 MEGAPIXELS!!!)
-MAN, IM TIRED OF TYPING..........
I'm really sorry 'bout such a large post but THINK PEOPLE! THINK B4 bashing something, especially this wonderful piece of hardware........
Trade it then! Better for us (another new N80 for someone to enjoy) Make sure to get a Sony ericsson!!! ;-)
Great posts dude! But can you tell me the BEST settings setup for the camera for normal everyday shots? Thanks!
i agree with the battery,. the camera is ok lah,. looks good,.. the back cover for the battery shud have been built together with the battery,. i mean wtf?.. *sigh* anyhoo,. its oklah,.. O k l a h . but for the price.. *sigh*,.. anyways who's to blame we're all suckers for adds!
I don't know why gsmarena.com didn't really include all the drawbacks of this mobile. I have been fooled by their review since I trusted it and bought the mobile (US$ 862). Here is a list of bad things:
1)Battery is very bad. It can't last for even one day.
2)The keypad is very hard to use. Typing a message is really hard because the buttons are hard to press and the mobile upper part is much heavier than the lower part. Good luck trying to keep the mobile balanced in your hand.
3)The firmware (mine is V3.0614.0.3 dated 11-04-06) needs a lot of improvement. The out of memory comes a lot while doing simple tasks.
4)When searching the contacts and typing the first letter of the contact name (M, for example), the mobile doesn’t display the names starting with the letter M. You have to press the second (and in same names, the third) letter of the name till the mobile displays the names starting with this letter.
5)The video camera is very bad, even my last 6230i is better in video!
6)The camera really lacks the auto focus function.
9)Inbox is displaying messages senders names in the wrong order (message from John Smith is displayed as a message from Smith John)!!
I am seriously thinking of trading it for I Mate Jamin
from what i have heard this is a very good phone and im thinking of getting it, but i want to know if there are any bad features in the phone and is it worth buying?
yes i have used the video function what you have to remeber is this phone does not have auto focus and it doesnt adjust the settings automatically so its up to you to go into settings and choose the correct settings it takes brilliant photos and its not grainy at all! play around with the settings !
RDS is RADIO DATA SYSTEM, it tels u the name of the song thats playing, whos hosting the show, news etc in txt format on the screen, nothing exciting realy!
anyone tell me what is RDS? bcoz one fo disadvantage is FM radio lacks RDS .. ! someone lighten me up?
I just got N80, Just to find out that, if i were to upgrade my memory card to 1 Gb , should be hang as claim by the local vendors. Is it true? I m from Malaysia. Here N80 still new, so i did not know bug or problem face by the user. How to upgrade the firmware as you all mentioned before? Thank
it's fast man ,once you know how to runn symbian the phone dose what you whant when you whant.symbian os is more a brain there are no limits
need a desktop charger for your nokia n80? just use the desktop charger for nokia 3230 as they are using the same battery
i had my n80 with me for abt more than 2 mths and i really find it the most wonderful nokia phone i have and it is more user friendly than my last samsung phone watever i need is all in this small n80 phone when i m bored i can listen to mp3 or fm radio when i need to check email i just take my phone out when i saw something nice i just use my phone to take a picture of it my last stupid samsung phone just cannot connect to the bluetooth printing machine when my son need a pic for his playgroup school but my n80 can just print out by bluetooth on the kodak printing machine as easy as 123. i really cant live without my n80 although it is expensive i pay abt 1150 sg for it but it is really worth it my n80 battery can last abt at least 3 days with the use of wifi sms calls and radio it is not as bad as wat others have said it is a 9.5/10 phone. you dun need to bring a mp3 player a camera a pda and a phone all you need is just a nokia n80
Im returning my N80. I had it after 24h. Can't believe that Nokia gets away with something like this, bad battery, slow menus, crashing, hang ups, reboots, bad "3mp" camera. And very plastic. Doesnt feel robust in you hand. I even had the latest firmware and this is what I have to say.
i nead ptt (voice chat) with agile messenger on n80

to switch ,,,have you used the video record function yet is it really grainy???I am going sim free route & going to get black n80 but one of the main features i use is video and want cif resolution. The n93 i suppose is really the video fone but its really to big.I hav s/e w900i at moment and thats big enuf & getting on my nerves becauase of its weight but its a good fone its just it records in 3gp format,i hope n80 is mp4 like ive read. thanx
ok have my n80 for 5 days now! guys the first like 4 charges that it gets dont last too long after that the battery gets better and better i have now officially listened to music for 4 hours with bluetooth on made a call for about an hour and the battery is still going , took it off charge at 8am this morning its currently
23:15pm and i have two bars left so looks like the battery improves over a couple of charges
ill keep you guys informed AMAZING PHONE!!
well 3 weeks on and my n80 works fine,i think people foget just how much phones have moved on over the last few years, just remember how much is cramed into what is still not a lage phone. Here in the uk lots of smartphones are low in price or even free on contract so people are getting one for the first time only to find out that yes,the battery does suffer, they crash, and menus are slow to load.If you have owned one befor nothing new,so think befor you buy, dont knock the n80 which is just the best smartphone ive owned, and on a lighter note snake is just wicked.
