How can u compare the motorola A1200 to the N80..
things the n80 has which a1200 doesn't:
-Secondary camera for video calls
MARK: why was it a mistake to get it in black? has the OS improved much at all?
Very important info for owners and interested buyers, pertaining to the video issue.[/B]
I just bought mine yesterday, and had the really nasty shock from the video capturing. (I didn't read these forums thoroughly). In one word, the quality is APPALLING. Discoloured, smudgy, jerky. Flooded with noise. If you use it under flouroscent, you can actually see horizontal boxes streaming downwards.
So. I called the Singaporean Nokia helpdesk twice today. And went to two service centres.
The first service centre (Suntec City) was absolutely helpless. The lady didn't understand what I meant by "a lot of noise in the video quality" and took it that I was complaining about the audio of the recording. After much explanation, she told me that branch had no technican or engineer available that day and I may like to consider returning tomorrow.
That's ludricrous, isn't it?
I went off, and called the helpdesk. According to the helpdesk, the N70 has a larger lens aperture than the N80, so that might result in the "better quality" video especially in terms of lighting. I didn't accept that because the difference in quality is far more than just marginal.
After hanging up, I proceeded to the Wheelock Place branch. Upon examination by the available engineers there, they told me that indeed something is wrong with the camera. The quality of the video recording should be much better. Currently, I have left the phone with them for detailed checking. They didn't, however, tell me how long it would take.
So for those facing this problem, I advise you go to a nokia centre and insist on the problem. Because I honestly do think that it's not what it's supposed to be. I may be nitpicking. But the videos taken by the secondary VGA camera on my set is actually better than those taken by the main camera.
PS: I've considered exchanging for another set yesterday, but eventually changed my mind. This is even though I may have to live with the horrid video recorder. Reasons are:
1) The Symbian (not that it was ever an issue for me), is indeed smoother and faster. Although, be prepared to lose all your previous programmes, Java or Symbian.
2) Much more sophisticated camera options, and music player options.
3) Speakers surprising loud and good. Ear piece is also much better than the stupid and stiff lanyard one that comes with the earlier N series.
4) Gorgeous display. This is probably the last N series to use 352 by 416. I think it has something to do with the resolution being too high for most softwares, esp Java. Anybody can confirm?
5) Needless to say. The Wi Fi
Please use RS-MMC type of memory card. The silver and black, both a matt plastic
Help!!! I try to insert one minisd card 2gb from San disk and it's not working.I search the specification of nokia minisd but nothing until now. Please tell what minisd to buy.
Nokia N80. just bought this phone and i made the terrible mistake of buying a black one, luckily they are going to change it for me. Its an okay phone but the font size when reading or sending text messages leaves a lot to be desired, its a very small font size and its also not able to be altered, I know this as have just got off the phone to Nokia. apart from that all seems well.
I regret buying N80 after extra ord wait and hype!within days its prices hav fallen drasticly to 550$,All of u listen The extra money u pay for unp wlan even video confer is not operational 80%of the world why then only cam without auto focus 3Mp ad screen resolution is not worth .People will regret its battery one day service, thickness more than its length, looks like a box.Extra memory card new ver costs 100 $.What the fun folks i anticipate by 30th june 06 within one month of release it will retail at 400$.Good Luck Nokia u hav earned at the cost of others
Nokia N80 is very good in its display and camera. But is it that good enough to beat Motorola A1200/Ming.Motorola supports LINUX unlike hopeless OS like symbian in most phone.Better Luck Next time in choosing wisely.

fook waiting another 3 months and then some, get it now and then in 9months ur contract will be upgradeable.
se k800 is better due to what?
pics - slightly
video - not even close
audio - slightly
what is left?
amazing price.only 580 euros in greece check this.
you can't compare the samsung z710 with the n80.... the z710 is bullcrap compared
Alan u dont need to post that twice.
I doubt you have ever used a S60 phone, if you claim that a SAMSUNG would ever beat a Nokia S60 Phone.
A llist of things that N80 has and z710 doesnt:
- better screen resolution
- more screen colors
- And most important: Symbian.
Any arguments to why its better? Just the camera is it?
I got a Nokia N80 it’s a amazing phone. But when I synchronize it with Outlook, some of the tasks are not sync. correctly. The date and text are correct, but the alarm time is sometimes a five hours behind the Outlook time. When I sync. a task added or edit in the phone to Outlook there is no problem. Anybody know what the problem is.
