Thought of expressing my experience on this nice little piece of art, packed densely with sooooooooo many features that youíll discover something new every day you use it. Iíve got it in February and played with it for last 2months before making any comment because,Iíve heard enough rumors to stay away from shifting to this from my 6630.But now Iím pretty happy about my decision after buying it. Any way now letís move on to the major issues that people are blaming on N80.
1.Poor camera quality:-
First of all you must clearly understand that the NOKIA N80 is a smartphone, not a NIKON N80 or any other advanced camera. To my experience its giving satisfactory image quality. Donít try to compare it with N73 which has a different kind of sensor and autofocus(But slow). Also N80 camera has lot of settings and after playing with it for some times youíll find out which combination is the best, depending on the light condition of your day today environment. Its true that it takes some time n practice to get used to it. Another issue is that the camera settings do not stay the same after you exit. For this,1st you have to make your own shooting mode in USER profile n save it. Then you can switch to it whenever you are shooting. The macro mode is great if you are student who uses library,it will help u to scan n keep ur reference notes n diagrams.
2.Slow and Stuck or restart frequently:-
This thing is user dependent.(For heavy software users like me try to use some kind of taskmanager so you can have a good idea about how the ram decays as u use the apps,Yet there is no productive app available to regain this memory in 3rd edition, but soon there will)And also you must understand that you are using a N-Series multimedia computer that runs on Symbian OS v9.1,which is very similar to a Windows XP based machine(I mean qualitywise not quantitywise). So the guys out there blaming on this issue probably wouldnít have used a PC,I guess.Just be honest to your selves, havenít you ever experienced restartings n crashes with your PC.And keep this in mind too keep realistic expectations instead of hypothetical fantasies. If you are using ur phone,
a.)Only to make calls listen to music, take photos, and texting.
Its better for you to buy a typical java phone or SE w series(Really gives good music n suits well for typical entertaining).they wont bother you within your requirements.
b.)To all the above and in addition, take you whole life in your pocket like PIM,Advanced web browsing, wide range of entertainment, navigation,TV,Call & File management, Highly customized organizing,Office,Dictionaries,eBooks and many more.
You should go for a Symbian.2nd or 3rd edition.
As a guide here Im listing the softwares that Im currently using in my N80ie.
Nokia wallpaper creater
Name card genarator
Quick office Premier
MsDict viewer(More than 14 different types of Dictionaries)
Nokia WLAN wizard
Nokia timezone upgrade
Nokia SMS accelerator
Psiloc hotspot finder
Nokia Mobile search
Windows Live messenger
Interactive Voice call master
Nokia Zip manager
Nokia Sports tracker
Advanced Device Locks
Advanced call manager
SMS spam manager
Alon contact guide
Best call back
Best message store
Zensis SMS wizard
Nokia Team suite
LCG juke box
Alon MP3 Dictaphone
And they all wok fine.
3. Wobbly Slider mechanism.
First of all have to understand the difference between a normal phone and a feature packed smart phone.Unlike 1100 or a 5210(Nothing happens even if u keep them dropping all da time, cos theres nothing to breake inside them),A smartphone comes with more delicate gadgets inside them which should be treated with care. And in N80 the slider is some thing special and handy. Many complaints about the wobbly feeling and the looseness. But I think nokia has done this intentionally for the protection of the phone.I mean just imagine If the slider was firm and tight there is less space to release a pressure if u drop the phone. But since the slider can move sideways also there is enough motion to absorb the impact and release the pressure. And also it doesnít use a ribbon like in other sliders.
After all If u have access to a Wi-Fi hotspot an N80 will give u almost anything u need!
ok i fixed the bug i just reformatted my phone with *#7370# it did the trick
no i do not encounter the same problem, maybe it is in sleeep mode im not sure and i did call nokia USA center and they do not support my model because i purchased it from hong kong and they do not have the parts to fix it. i duno what to do guys =\
I have my N80 upgraded to N80IE but I don't encounter same problems. Do u encounter ur white out in your phone? I encountered it when my phone is left idle for several seconds.
Hahahahaha, I dunno actually where the Nokia Centre located in Toronto, Canada. I'm from Philippines.. why don't u try visiting USA's Nokia official web site. U might find the nearest location of Nokia Centre in your place there.
i found a bug..right now i upgraded my n80 to n80ie version 4.07 i believe..and when i get into tools/settings and then when i enter the "calls" settings it doesnt open at all and in fact it goes back to the tools folder. anyone know how i can fix this??
hmm i called nokia and they do not support my phone because i purchased it in hong kong and not in north america..so my best bet is either send it back to hong kong to get it repaired or repair it myself with the correct tools..any other suggestions?

Yes, I'm talking about changing the front cover of your N80. I myself sometimes thinking of opening the cover but, I called Nokia and they say bring the phone to us and leave the rest.
to louie,,when you say bring it to service centre were you relating to the enquiry about changing face plate thank you
Bring it to the Nokia Center they will be the one to do it because it's complicated.

dear TALZ, both N80 and K800i are bad phones, i propose you to go for n73 instead, better camera, better keyboard, and better dimensions.
