I Think there is no phone in this league that makes that kind of photos, especially in poor light conditions. If u compare it with standalone cameras you'll be dissapointed ofcourse, but then again you can't expect a phone to replace 500€ worth device and cost like 300€ plus still being a phone, a gps device, an audio/video player. But maybe you should buy a standalone camera and use it as a phone. I wonder how that would work:)))
In my opinion and opinion of many users on the internet, N82 is the best camera-smartphone today. N86 might have a better angle but sucks in low light. So sorry to say - but there's something wrong with your standards! I'm willing to take up my N82 with the entire Nokia N-Series palette and even with any other brand's best cameraphones:) But check out the link i posted a few posts back:)

I set out to buy the best phone camera available on the market, and I bought my N82 based in part on many reviews I read here.
Big mistake. Huge disappointment. I should have comparison-tested.
There is nothing right with this phone's camera, not a thing. The optics of the Zeiss lens are probably good, I don't have a lab at my disposal to micro-analyze the optical and spectral reproduction.
But to my (trained) naked eye - the entire camera aspect of the N82 is a massive failure. It's as if Nokia had a good intention of creating a compact digital camera equivalent, and approached one of the better camera lens makers of the world, Zeiss , who in turn arrogantly decided to screw the phone people by dumping one of their most unfortunate lens designs on them. And then Nokia outsourced the software and driver writing for the camera to the cheapest source they could find, and pay only for the most primitive algorithms.
- 2/3rds of the image is unnecessarily wide angle - distorted. It's not a security camera people.
- the color temperature metering is ALWAYS off. i tried indoors/outdoors/sunny/cloudy/bright/low light. no scenario is ever close to the actual color.
- auto-focus metering just focuses at 1.5 meters or farther out, regardless of what's smiling in front of it's red beam.
- highlights are always blown out. Again, Nokia must have subcontracted some security-camera people to do this.
- color saturation and contrast too distorted.
- image compression is too lossy.
This is just embarrassing for Nokia. And I haven't even started on the rest of the phone - the usability and UI design and User experience, as compared to the better american and asian designs, is just medieval.
What were you thinking, Nokia?
Hi guys, plzz help me out here. Got my Nokia N82 about a week back. Was running fine till today morning. I got up
and tried to change my profile from the shortcut in the standby mode. It said "Stand-by memory full. Please close
some applications first". To my horror, i realized that no shortcut was working. And even if i went inside the menu
and tried to get into some application it gave me the same error message. The prob was solved wen i restarted
the phone. But it still freaked me out. The funny thing is I checked for open applications by long pressing the menu
button. But there were none. I always close all open applications correctly. Then why this prob??I'm afraid it'll
re-occur.
Also I am totally GPS ignorant. I tried starting the Nokia Maps thing a few times. But nothing happened.Plzz tell me
all about GPS, charges involved etc.Thank you.

If you're videoing using N96 then you won't get clear videos. You should use N82 if you want to shoot real DVD quality videos.
subho, 06 Jul 2009from the test it seems n86 takes better pic.but again the led flash of n86 let it down in dark... moreyes exactly and that's why if a phone has no xenon i will not buy it. Carl Zeiss optics is nice also:) And in my case there is no smrtphone out that is better then N82. Maybe Satio will be a good replacement or the newly announced 12mp from Nokia. So i'm good for another year i would say:) Regards!

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970I have enough of Samsung experience and their no turning back! there only good in falling ground deep with their smartphones, don't be deceive but their outright appearance. there only good in looming buyers then after you buy one, they wont care about your phone anymore.. look at the innov8, they left it into dust.

for all who are wondering if N82 is still in the first league of cameraphones:

I use my camera a lot like it's in the last picture: look how all other phones are performing there lol (incl n86). In good light condition there is no apparent difference.
Regards!
N82, take a read on the review about n86 on its camera on this website.
