The One, 10 Oct 2008N85 is an excellent phone by the spec. But from my experience, I won’t say that it is go... morei've never been fascinated by a xenon flash becos camera is not my thing! n85 and it's dual slide form factor make it an excellent all-in-one device. you can watch videos, play music and games very conveniently in landscape mode using the external hardware keys as controls. n85 is supposed to have better sound quality than n82 becos of the presence of a dedicated audio chip. gaming on n85 is gameboy/psp-like level, thanks to the multipurpose media keys. gallery viewing of pictures and videos are also made convenient by these media keys. from the claimed media playback, standby and talktime, n85 is really impressive and it will sure come close to those figures in real life use. n85 is so much better than n82. nokia has applied all knowledge they have acquired in the past and addressed all the faults they have made from previous nseries into n85. slide mechanism is expected to be stellar. choice of materials this time is much better than other nseries. build quality and construction according to reviews is top notch. no issues at all. the lock switch key first introduced in n91 and n81 is now positioned in the right side to where it should be. the os is optimised to deliver the best performance and power efficiency. the active matrix oled screen is one of the most amazing features of this phone. lack of 3d accelerator is not a problem in playing great graphics game. nokia learns that from n81. this phone is close to being perfect, if not perfect. i'll exchange the xenon flash of n82 for everything else the n85 has. n82 is very camera-centric. i've had n81 & n91 in the past and i can say that coming from those 2 great music phones, music experience on n82 is a big step back. n85 is a great fusion of camera, music, gaming, web and other multimedia. i forgot to mention, i've read from a russian site that n85 is equipped with a better gps chip different from previous nokia devices. n85 is for people who want an all-in-one device that specializes on great music and gaming but does not lose on other departments also. n81 is an excellent music and gaming phone but deprived of good camera and other great smartphone functions. n82 is a great camera phone but is lousy as a music player and gaming device. but n85 is great in performing all these multimedia functions. so i think it's really worth upgrading to n85, coming from n82, n81 & n91. i know i'm being redundant here. that's all. thank you.
Anonymous, 10 Oct 2008and thats what im starting not to like anymore. candybar design is so boring. nokia pioneered ... moreWell, Different users have different taste.. For me sliding phones are no appeal how much media keys or what so ever keys it added, as much as i want is the phone can be place in my pocket without no worries... Given the added features of n85 against n82. surely it must cause n82 is a year older as "THE ONE" said.
At the end of the day is up to users preference on what phone to be choose. even n85 has a xenon flash.
I have had his phone for about a week. It's really nice and solid and a great update from my previous Nokia N93. This phone is much faster camera is great. The battery current;y last only one day but that's probably because i've been using it non-stop...i'm even typing this comment with the phone!

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2008and thats what im starting not to like anymore. candybar design is so boring. nokia pioneered ... moreU said diffrence between N82 & N85 is huge, can u explain that?
Main differences between N82 vs N85.
N85 added more mobile network
OLED display – Eye candy but good improvement
FP2- Eye candy
USB-charging – Not vital (unless u travel different countries frequently)
More bluetooth profiles and java technology features are added – Not Vital
FM transmitter – Not Vital and it’s even illegal in some countries by law
Increased battery life – Good but not tested in real life
The n85 has a slightly better one but from the looks of it, it can’t be used to record or capture videos.
Navi wheel – Good but not that vital
The ultimate Xenon – Vital for camera
The main camera of the N82 has a slightly better resolution and higher focal length and video zoom capabilities.
3d graphics HW accelerator – good for gaming
So in the end it can be said that N85 brings very few good improvement and some non vital improvement but lack 2 main things - Xenon & 3d graphics HW accelerator.
Without Xenon, u can’t use ur 5mp camera with full potential and without 3d graphics HW accelerator, ur changing icon game key won’t help.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2008and thats what im starting not to like anymore. candybar design is so boring. nokia pioneered ... moreN85 is an excellent phone by the spec. But from my experience, I won’t say that it is good until some real users make review or comments. Written spec can be different in real world.
N82 is almost a year older than N85. N85 has to be better than N82! Wats the point to release a latest phone which can’t beat a phone which is a whole year older! But still N85 is not good enough. Already 8mp camera phones are in the market.
I want two things in N85 – 1) Xenon and 2) 8mp camera with better sensor & optics. Then I’ll say it’s the best.
After using N82, I can’t live with a phone without good Xenon flash like N82.

celladik, 10 Oct 2008Thanks for the tips! @4maX Theres oNe thing m0re and a thing that i always c0nsiDer when g... moreand thats what im starting not to like anymore. candybar design is so boring. nokia pioneered the dual slide design and that design is so nice, not to mention versatile. you can operate the phone conveniently in various modes, play games in landscape, control for music playback and media viewing. n85 is so cool! it looks like n81 but doesn't feel like n81. while other nseries are made of cheap glossy plastic, n85 is made of high quality durable non-glossy plastic. it's very classy. the media keys serve the purpose of music controls in music mode, gaming buttons in gaming mode, and slideshow/zoom in/zoom out in gallery mode. unlike n95 whose media keys display only the music control labels even if you're playing games, the nice thing about n85 is that the labels on the media keys change icons according to its purpose. cool! the oled screen has no backlight. it is always "on" because the pixels in the screen light up by themselves without any backlight. in power saver mode, u can always see the screensaver even in total darkness. the light on the screen doesn't fade away unless you change the background into black. and n85 is the most complete latest nseries. n79 has no hscsd, only class 11 gprs and edge, dual band hsdpa, while n85 has hscsd, class 32 gprs & edge, triband hsdpa. actually n79 and n82 are almost the same except for the os, xenon, and fm transmitter. while the difference of n82 and n85 is so huge. don't get me wrong. i also own an n82 right now. but soon i'll be selling this phone. from my experience with n82, its only great in camera. in other areas like music, gaming, its only average. i'm getting the n85 next! see ya!
