The N85 comes equipped with a large and bright OLED screen, but the downside to it is that its lifetime doesn’t exceed 1000 hours or so. Have you tested it in the labs already? Will it be enough for most users out there?
M.W. I don’t have the details myself, but I know our R&D guys are looking into these things.

can anyone tell me how fast is the processor of this phone?
is it dual arm? like the Nokia N95 processors?
"The lifespan of the material itself draws near 10,000 hours already, and it has been developing by more than 30% every year; it is expected to achieve 40,000 hours of lifespan in year 2005 when AMOLED is regularized"
we r in 2008 so its lifespan must be way ahead of 1000 hours
so i wouldnt worry bout its amoled screen
if eldar was rite about 1000 hours, that d be 40 days.
and i dont think nokia is willing to replace every n85 almost screen every month. that would be a huge loss to nokia + their credibilty will go way down.
but something is fishy otherwise i dont think Eldar would express n85 AM OLED screens lifespan.
lack of info about its screen will put some of the future buyers off, so nokia should enlighten us.
the n85 is equipped with an AMOLED, which is an active-matrix oled screen. Regarding lifetime i.e. wear and tear as for any object ever created, has limits. THe amoled used for computer monitors, large screen tv's and electronic signs and billboards needs less power than a PMOLED, amoled needs less external circuitry. Anyhoo it will last more than a blue OLED that's for sure, especially after Giant companies like Toshiba and Panasonic have revolutionised the life expectancy of OLED's to the extent of superceeding LCD display's lifetime. So no worries quite yet, enjoy your N85, plus when it dies, it dies.... even we humans have a limited lifetime \m/ :)
1000 hours is about 42 days!
Think it will last a little more than that..
Hope so anyway... :/
Lifetime used to be a problem for OLEDs. But ofcourse it still was not 1000 hours. Blue OLEDs had a lifetime of around 14.000 hours. With the latest OLED technology, now blue OLEDs have a lifetime of 60.000 hours and green OLEDs have a lifetime of 200.000 hours. I don't know what kind of technology Nokia has used in its mobile phones, but I doubt it has 1000 hours of lifetime (which means 40 days of usage). I think it will be at least 14.000 hours.

what i know is that, amoled screen is always on because there is no screen backlight. the pixels in the screen illuminate themselves. the screen is always "on" until the background image is changed to black. you can always see the screensaver on the screen unless it's totally black.
I really like this fone
except for the fact that AMOLED technology has a major disadvantage of limited lifetime
if you go2 mobile-review.com and find an article about an interview with a nokia spokesmen there is reference to the n85's screen having a lifetime of 1000hours
do you guy think that can last a good 3yrs?
