It is a low res fone with a seriously bad processor. Dont look at MHz, the 600MHz of N900 is close to twice as fast as the 680MHz of N8, and 4 times faster when the A8's extra instructions are utilized. Arm11 is a seriously old technology, and the screen of N8 is very inadequate. i have used many symbian fones with the same resolution, IN THE PAST (and N8 belongs in the past), its way too low.
N90 has a decent resolution and a decent processor and the very best OS currently available. However its getting old, and kindof not worth the price of a brand new one. If you can buy a used one then ok, and keep i untill N9 is out, for example.
Personally i stopped using my N900, im keping it anyway, its still the best pocket pc with a built in cellfone. I am currently using a HTC Desire Z, even if Android cannot match Maemo5 the HTC is still a better fone. Better battery (MUCh better), bigger screen, capacitive, beautiful keyboard mechanism, slimmer, faster, smoother.
i can add that i was gonna wait for N9 but when i saw the keyboard mechanism is the same as N97 i got scared, i just cant live with that, so my best hope now to return to real linux on cellfone is that HTC will launch a meego device, or maybe even meego upgrade for the Desire series (dreaming now...) =)

This phone is awesome! Internet connection and download speed is faster than any other phone i've checked out, even the iphone4. The OS is extremely flexible so there's very little that you cannot do with this amazing device. I'm a proud owner...
Anonymous, 01 Jan 2011how long your battry can last if you use internet quite often.. or you use it normally ?? its just a few hours, really very short, i could not go anywhere without spare battery, and 12volt car charger was a requirement even for half day trips. Its worse than you think.
Its too bad, N900 has so many advantages and a very superior OS, but the few disadvantages are so severe.
Its true that many advanced smartfones have bad battery time, but N900 is still one of the worst, not since N95 8GB have i seen so bad battery times.
Experimental Android 2.3 build is out for N900

It did serve as an experiment whkich has them eaning on meego to compete with android and ios. You are right about the phone functionality to a certain degree. when you do make calls though its reception and call quality is top notch like all nokia phones. Also, if you really look at it, you cant name another phone on the market that can do what this one cant. not one!. not to mention this is almost 2 yr old technology. It is for geeks though. if you want to control anyones tv or ps3 and freak them out this is the device for that. if you want to use ps3 remote to play your games this is it. You cant name another on the market that can do these things.

If you are on wifi and playing songs while surfing on net, then battery can't hold more than a day (name me just one cellphone that it can).
Screen should be enough bright (except if you like eye-burning brightness). Try to change theme to some brighter, maybe this will help you.
Multitasking and internet is great on n900, and much more ;)
It's very basic as a phone, and so/so as internet tablet. Still because of linux os it's powerful device.
If you treat phone as a tool, I honestly do not recommend it. On the other hand if you treat phone functionality as secondary and want pocket pc, with very small screen, short battery life and not affraid going technical it would reward you with great power.
I have IT background and consider this device great but my personal opinion is that nokia created this device as experimental and left it behind rejecting some basic issues/fixes. Now support, functionality is mostly in the hands of community, which tries at it best but cannot provide vendor-grade support. In the end this phone needs lots of patience, bit of technical knowledge and some time to good use. I would recommend it to my IT friend, but not to my parents. It's not good device for casual user.
myster, 30 Dec 2010Does the N900 use Dual sim card? No, Nokia's n900 can not use 2 SIM cards.
However be aware that there are Chinese copies of n900, and they can use 2 SIM cards!
Anonymous, 31 Dec 2010hey guys i need some help;
pls tell is there any way to run exe files on nokia n900?
need th... moreHi
.exe files are not possible to run for now.
Someone claim that could manage it (there are few youtube videos demonstaring it, but there is no tutorial for it yet).
However if you want to run .exe files written for DOS (not Windows!) you can use Dosbox emulator on it.
Try this for Java: http://www.nokian900applications.com/install-java-on-nokia-n900/
Hope it helps
