mike n97 x10 user, 15 Jul 2010Hi, I am not fimilar with linux or maemo, always been a nokia user. Tried the sony x10 android... moreIf u want a phone to be as close as laptop then i don't see any present smartphone coming near to the mark except N900 (half tablet half phone) and that too upto certain extent like in the case of mozilla web browsing.
But Nokia has cleared that there would be no further maemo OS phones as Nokia are eyeing meego in the future. That sounds like one night stand affair for poor users who will feel outdated once meego arrive (with maybe N920).
If you see N900 from the eyes of potential internet tablet user, perhaps this is your baby. Or else go for android (open source) or wait for symbian^3.

Big advice NEVER NEVER go on a Windows operating system. You will experience lots and lots of crashes restarts etc.. Been using the N900 now for almost anything and it cut my usage on my laptop for at least 50% except for online gaming ;P Gogogo Nokia
Fil, 15 Jul 2010N900 is not just like any other nokia phone. N900 is a linux based phone which runs on maemo p... moreHi, I am not fimilar with linux or maemo, always been a nokia user. Tried the sony x10 android, but its not something I feel at home with. Not a fan of android, but since I recetly got the x10 sony, don't want to make another wrong decision, should I get the n900? Or wait for something better from nokia? I am also looking forward to a win7 based phone, I want a phone which can be as close to a laptop as it can be,I hear this about the n900 called a mini laptop
Comparing N900 to other devices like N97, Samsung wave isn't fair. There is no way internet tablet can be compared to smartphones. They both have their own pros and cons.
Danveer, 14 Jul 2010can this phove play full hd video of 1080p.also does it supports formats like .mkv, .mov, etc ... moreNo .mkv out of box. However, codecs and additional players can be installed from repository. This can open at the command prompt compressed file like .bz2, .rar, .tar, however, you can uncompress file on computer and transfer to device. Video playing time is not much, 4 to 4.5 hours at the most. However, spare batteries are cheap 550/-. Sound quality exceptional and the best repository of Linux software. IMO, if you believe in playing with ur phone, nothing can beat this. Hardware is rock solid, so you cannot burn it while experimenting. Firmwares and tools are available for reinstall.

Thomas, 12 Jul 2010@Ganpat
What was the battery???
1320mAh or 1930mAh??
and i think with that kind of usag... morewell i am currently using the 1930 mAh battery which i purchased from ebay. just query for 1930 mAh high capacity battery etc. in ebay, you will get the product...
well with the original nokia battery, it never last for more than 24 hrs with little usage..leave alone 48 hrs.....
btw i found a solution for the battery indicator issue, i installed couple of other battery indicator programs that seems to work properly....let me use it some more time and get back with more info...
