Anonymous, 11 Nov 2009Well for me that's a deal killer.
I've used a phone with a slide out Landscape qwerty keybo... moreI can see that. you definitely got a point here.
In my opinion it's not really a big deal because most people who are looking for this phone are actually looking for the "computer like" experience.
So the landscape mode should feel natural.
For me it's even a plus as you can set the phone to launch the "phone app" just by turning it to "portrait mode".
I actually like that idea of: "phone = portrait" and " landscape = maemo and the computer like desktop"
But I totally understand that its a personal choice and all the points you made are also totally true: a lot of people won't like it for that.
But that's why there is such a diversity of device out there. ;)
Anonymous, 11 Nov 2009Erm, this is GSM Arena not CDMA Arena.touché...

I've used a phone with a slide out Landscape qwerty keyboard for two years and I use it in Portrait mode between about 60-75% of the time. If the screen was wide enough for a decent portrait mode software keyboard that percentage would be even higher.
I think that Nokia got it wrong on this one. They allowed themselves to believe that people would want use this phone in exactly the way their marketing people dictated. I don't believe that they will.
I don't know which carriers are going to take this phone but I envisage a number of returns due to this portrait mode/landscape mode issue if buyers are not properly informed before purchase.
just confirmed from Nokia, he said N900 will only run in landscape mood apart from the Phone app. the meamo for N900 is Only Landscape UI and gsmarena said that aswell. But its still a Killer!!!
I can't believe GSMarena doesn't have a review on the N900 or the DROID yet.
I can understand that they don't wanna make a review out of the N900 since they don't have the final release (looks like they didn't even get one of the pre-release, which is surprising for a website this big).
But the DROID has been out since last friday.
Come on GSMarena!
woah, this thing is 181grams? That's heavier than the n95 8GB! Does anyone know what makes this so...heavy?
good memory, a hefty amount of storage 32GB + 16GB external micro SD - qwerty keyboard - 5MP camera .. Quad Band. :D
Ovi Maps instead of Google Maps? Where are the precious facebook and twitter apps? :(

Its good to see Nokia finally release a new breed of their communicator series, I just hope it won't turn out to be another "average" phone.
