Anonymous, 25 Oct 2009Nokia has been using WebKit in their S60 browser for several years.

And for psion, psion became symbian, it's THAT easy.
As for N900 it's pointless to make a new OS when there already are so many out there.
The lamer here is apple wich aalways wanted to compete with microsoft without having an OS.
When both companies started, that's when operating systems were made, only apple was never able to make one of their own.
MACos is more UNIX than "based on unix" hence it's lameness.
i don't know anything about the Maemo 5, can i download 3rd party applications?

See Apple contributes openly without suing people.
Unlike nokia who think they invented cellphones and wifi so sue people for making a phone.
They also took Psions work and built on it, what are they going to sue Symbian users, now they are taking from the Linux community, I hope they end up like SCO.
it has infrared port!!!,,, do you know what that means?, that means it is a connectivity master like e.90 n.o.k.i.a rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for webkit... it's open source isheep :))
And apple does sue anytime it has the chance, half of the income is made that way:))

Isn't it great how Apple lets Nokia use their work (WebKit) without suing them.
I expect Grand Central will also be ported over when multicore chips become available.
It's good to see Apple taking the lead on openness.
0v0, 25 Oct 2009Does anyone, now or read in the sites about new software for N900 when released officially??? not as yet man keep updating us at least someone is ........ahmmm GSMa were is you share of info
Applications created for Nokia's N900 smartphone will be easier to port to future versions of the company's Maemo Linux operating system as well as to Symbian and Windows Mobile, after Nokia officially ported its Qt graphical toolkit to Maemo 5.
The N900, which will be released this month in the UK, runs on Maemo 5 rather than Nokia's usual Symbian operating system. Maemo 5 uses the GTK+ graphical toolkit for its application-development framework, but Nokia said in July that future versions of Maemo would use Qt instead. On Friday, Nokia announced an official Qt port for Maemo 5.
Qt, which Nokia acquired when it bought the developer firm Trolltech in 2008, is already used to create the user interfaces for programs running on Windows, Linux, Mac OS and Windows Mobile. Nokia is currently working on a Symbian port for the graphical toolkit.
The Maemo development community had already started work on an unofficial port of Qt to Maemo 5, and that progress has been merged into Nokia's official port, the manufacturer said.
"With this announcement and our upcoming port of Qt to the Symbian platform, we will quickly see Qt established as a leading framework for mobile application development," Nokia application services and frameworks chief Sebastian Nyström said in a statement.
"Developers will be able to use Qt as a framework to create powerful native applications and, with Qt's Webkit integration, it also provides them with a platform for creating web applications and services."
Cooool details from Nokia site, check below:
Developers will be able to target the Nokia N900 and upcoming Maemo and Symbian devices.
Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced the creation of the official Qt port to Maemo 5 and published an initial Technology Preview release. This port to Maemo 5 means that developers can now use Qt to target the upcoming Nokia N900 device and also ensures that applications can be easily ported to all Qt's supported platforms including the next Maemo 6 release as well as Symbian and Windows Mobile.
The Qt port to Maemo 5 is designed specifically to work within the Maemo 5 environment, which will power the upcoming Nokia N900 device. The port itself will be based on Qt's upcoming version 4.6 and is scheduled for final release in Q1 of 2010.
Does anyone, now or read in the sites about new software for N900 when released officially???
is that true that t-mobile gonna offering N900? can anyone tell if dat true
Q, 24 Oct 2009Hi
If the n900 doesnt support MMS
how are you suppose to text then??Dear Q,
Dont be upset by what our friend told you so. But to enlighten you let me kick your knowledge part of your brain into gear.
SMS or Texting some people call it, is sending a Short Messaging Services. Actually the message is not actually short. Each message is set by the service provider to about 160 character per message . but if you want to send longer messages you just continue typing, you phone will break your messages into several 160 characters messages. When you send them , the receipient phone will joint them together again . so they get one continous messages from you. Why 160 character message only. It is business my friend.
MMS, Multimedia Messaging Services. Instead of only text, you can sent anything , Text, Pictures, Songs, Music. except your mother-in-law and of course your kichen sink . They too can be sent if you have digitised pictures of them.
That why a MMS message is more expensive, usually charge according to file size. Now your brain is in gear . Read our friend comment on you to go to overdrive mode.
Thanks all, Regards. Take care
Vel, 25 Oct 2009you guys first need to stop flaming each other.
just answer question with respect, or ask que... moreDear Friend(s)
I never had experience with this phone camera (remember, not released yet) but to use the camera of this phone (5 Megapixel ) as webcam shouldnt be a problem. BUT.......BUT.........
You got to remember . Webcam camera resolution is only 0.3 mega pixel. So if your transmission speed is at a theoritical speed of 300 bits per second (300bps)your picture will be streamed to your friends in realtime. Your friends will see the picture as to where your "webcam" is pointed .
So I wonder how long it takes for your friends to see your webcam picture if you are using a 5MP webcam camera. Try to download a 5MP picture to see and realise what I mean.
Just to exagerate a bit to drive home my point. If you streamed a video to your mum of your wife bathing your baby using a 5MP webcam camera. By the time your mum receive your webcam picture, the baby will be fully clothed.
Thanks mate, Have a nice day (Is it winter there). Regards.
is there any word if they're releasing a rogers friendly 3G bandwidth (i think its umts850&1900) if im not mistaken,,,ive read on BGR that there is nothing in the works for it(from 'official response to public')...there's one opinion posted that they will offer it a few months after U.S. carriers get their release out. Any confirmations??? thanks
