I thought Id answer things here and also share some info I have from other sites. Once again I love my N91 and its great but like any computer there are ways to make it work better for you.
1) The SW
- 1.00.28.xx note these final two numbers show the language etc it does not indicate that a release is later or earlier
- 1.01.xx (cant remember the last two)
- 1.10.30 The latest one that I am using
- 1.11.xx (again cant remember the last two but this was the same as 1.10 but with something for Russia and France or something?)
Check your SW version by entering *#0000#
So Bader they basically replaced your sw with the same one. Damascus is a big city so I dont get why they dont upgrade send an email to Nokia support
2) Helpful Hints on Energy Management
a) If you do not care about WCDMA then switch from DUAL to GSM
b) Make sure your WLAN "show availability" in Tools/Connection is set to "never"
c) Do not leave Bluetooth On unless you are using it for an accessory
d) Do not set the HDD as your "memory in use" for messaging (SMS, MMS). HDD is not optimised for mesaging
3) Helpful hints with the HDD and other things
a) Do not set the HDD as your "memory in use" for messaging (SMS, MMS). In addition to the EM issue above - its slow (HDD buffering is optimized for Video, Music playback), you have to switch back to the phone memory each time you want to use mass storage to connect to PC. In short why keep a bunch of messges on you phone anyhow?
b) If you get a situation that the phone boots up and cant see the HDD - check your Battery cover with a paper clip over the little "box" on the inside. Jasmir stated he had a phone that was missing the magnet there which the device uses to see if the battery cover in on. Its rare but obviously someone missed something. Nokia will just give you a new battery cover no worries.
c) Dont save Themes on the HDD. People have said it slows down navigating through folders since there us some kind of interaction with the HDD
d) In general if you can - save the applications (SISx files) you download/buy on the phone memory then that is the best thing to do (better energy management, speed etc). My phone came with over 14 Mbytes of memory so that's alot of space for applications. I like to keep the HDD for what it was optimized for - Music and Videos.
e) Be patient with Gallery ehen you have loaded up a bunch of new songs and videos. Unlike file manager the Gallery has to create some type of database the first time it opens after a big HDD update or phone memory reset. Its one thing about the N91 i must admit annoys me.
f) Afraid about dropping it - There was a link to some russian site (I cant find it!) that stated Nokia drops the N91 over 300 times on cement to test the HDD
g) SMS starting to get sluggish? - I found this in an N80 forum. Enter *#7370# and this cleans up the phone memory BEFORE you do this backup your phone memory using PC suite so you can still play the DRM stuff (Live8! or any ringtone you bought etc)
h) Phone turning off? - I found this on the 7380 forum. Try the same thing as SMS above or *#7780#. I did not have this problem but some of the people using 1.00 said they did
i) Back up your HDD data regularly. If you ran into data problems and have to re-format the HDD you will not lose as much data. I recommend using Mass storage to copy all the contents.
j) Don't take out the battery when the phone is ON.
k) When you want to disconnect USB mode on the N91 do so properly. If you just remove the cable from the phone there could be data that wasn't written and thus could create corruption. If there is no Disconnect option in the softkeys, use the Red key to end the connection. In XP there is an icon on the tray to disconnect the USB device.
l) Remember its a S60 3rd edition phone so old .SIS files will not work. Make sure before you download/buy that not only is it compatible for S60 3rd edition but that vefiry it is for the N91 as well just to be sure
m) "Out of Memory" - This happens sometimes on some web sites using that Internet Browser that comes with the phone. Its not the HDD but rather the RAM in the phone. Make sure you have all aplications closed (note "standby" and Music player cannot be closed) to free up memory. The Services (WAP) browser does not have this problem and I bought the Opera browser and it works great (installed on phone memory by the way).
n) Beware in copying installed applications (eg the actual folders and files not the SISx file) from an MMC/SD to the HDD. The N91 on start up may see these as incomplete installation and will start to install them. Its annoying and on the older sw it lead to not being able to format the HDD or connect to the PC in Mass storage. Use the proper installation of SISx files!
0) Some people using the older 1.00 software were having crashes and when they turned off the keypad tones (in profile) they stopped.
Thats about All I have. I love my N91 and I have had very few problems (none after updating the SW to 1.10 and following many of the practices above)...its an amazing device!!
The N91 is awesome! The phone feels goods and look great. The performance is pretty awesome with a 4gb hd. The only disappointment is that my GSM version does not have wifi! I believe only the wcdma has wifi and here in the US, we don't use it.
Great phone anyways!
well now i am giving u accurate #'s
the previous was:
and the new 1 is:
and both of them are of the date 29-03-06
and RM-43 by the way what do they mean by "RM-43"
well we the operators don't offer mobile phones whith a sim u should buy it from the center u wish it could be a cebter or an authorized dealer or even a private business but the problem is that i purchased it from the nokia center in damascus-syria the name is MABCO and its published on their website if u would like 2 check on it
and i did not in when i told about ordering the sw that the center is refusing any sw incoming but they dont bother to inquire and NOKIA in finland ie, headqurters cant check upon each and every center in the world if they have the latest sw and u know NOKIA has many types of mobiles with diffrent types of sw and the symbian ppl r always updating so imagine the laziness of the NOKIA ppl in damascus
and concening the e-mailing 2 NOKIA i didn't find a single e-mail address its only numbers and blg address's
so do u know any 1?????
This is a lovely stuff.I mean it serves all the purpose(4 GB of Music, videos, pictures, applications + WiFi,Bluetooth,FM...Gosh..long list!).
Great. And if it had an infrared with a flash for the camera, this babe would have been voted Miss world! LOL...
Alrite...I guess the idea of no card slots is that they may later on bring about 8GB hard disks or more, in the future;)...Which means no more memory cards...Aint bad!!
What do u say guys/gals abt this piece?!:D
Well, do all users have some problem or the other?
hi guys ....my phone dosent change storage from phone memory to HDD for messages any suggestions
If mine phone is version 1.00.028.13 RM43,
what should i install or upgrade? as my phone hang a lot.
Why is it that Nokia did not put a camera on the front of the phone for video calling?
Hi I am a bluetooth person and I cant stand listening to music with the headset from Nokia, any suggestions on that or a better headset for music ?. I jus purchased the N91 and it is awesome .I had the N70 great phone as well but NOTHING like the N91.
Hi like the N90 the N91 had some bugs when it lanched (1.00 sw) but I can tell you with 1.10 sw - its great. If you love music go for the N91
You have the original older software. Go get an upgrade to 1.10
If you remember a post I did while back (when I was on the phone with Nokia getting a summary of sw releases) there is no 1.08
1.01.xx (cant remember the last two)
1.10.30 The latest one
1.11.xx (again cant remember the last two but this was the same as 1.10 but with something for Russia and France or something?)
So there is no 1.08. I dont believe that a Nokia Service centre would say "FInland wont send me sw" although stranger things can happen...Is this a Nokia service centre?
Also did you get this through an operator (Vodafone etc?). I remember someone else posting that Operators sometimes take longer to distribute updates because they have to approve them and that the Nokia service centers will only replace an operators phone with Operator approved sw.
N93 is more focussed on its 3.2mp camera and 640X480 ,30fps videos rather then music.
From reviews ,I can make out clearly that music component is same in N70 ,N90 ,N71 ,3250 ,N80 ,N93 but it is completely different and revolutionary in N91.
What is the different for
If mine phone is version 1.00.028.13 RM43,
what should i install or upgrade?
Among additional options we should note a possibility of naming the disk, defragmenting it, scanning for errors (the two latter options require the charger to be plugged in, in order to prevent any malfunctions). Disk scan may take up to 25 minutes. The other options feature full disk format
The cover has a pressure sensor, so once the battery's cover is removed, the disk automatically turns off. This process takes up to one second. Another precaution is acceleration sensor – in case the device is falling from a height more than 1 meter, the hard disk switches off, so it may avoid a certain amount of damage, since exactly when turned on, the disk is vulnerable to mechanical effects.
i previously own a n90.i am a music lover so i am thinking 2 buy a music phone.i cosidered n91 as a useful device.the price iz not a problem but i heard it has many flaws.plz could anyone guide me that should i wait 4 a new brand or go get a n91
i would b very obliged
well i had the 1.10 and they installed the 1.08
and they could do nothing about it ie, asking nokia at finland 2 send them a new version THEY DONT DARE 2 DO IT
