Answer to Grover,
on how to watch live tv on the N95.
You can send live tv to www from your own pc, if you connect your satellite-tuner to a video-in card in your pc, of preferred type Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500 MCE, you will then need Windows Media Center operative system on your pc. Your pc will need to be connected to internet via broadband, with at least 250 kilobitspersecond upload capacity.
You will also need to install the ORB program on your pc, of version 1, or v1.1, to make it work with your Hauppauge-TV-card. Not version 2.0.
Then you login on the www.ORB.com website using the web explorer on your N95, and then you can choose between all TV-channels from your satellite-tuner and videos and music on your pc-harddrive as well, and connect to a Live tv-stream, the delay of the stream can be about 20 seconds, but that's still as good as Live-TV unless you get sms message that says GOAL from someone that watches same match live on tv :) The quality is very very good. You can then watch Live-TV on your N95, that is any channel from your own satellite tuner, from everywhere in the world where there is at least GPRS coverage, but minimum edge-connection is preferred. Then you can look forward to read your mobile phone bill next month. Can cost like 50$ for unlimited use, with a flat data rate. If not flat data download rate, then it can cost 1000s and 1000s and 1000s of your own countrys currency. Good luck.

Hi guys. I would like to give some different look on the comments of this phone. I am still thinking whether go for this phone or not. Besides I have some bad experience with N80 last year. I played with a N95 of a friend of mine, but just for 2 days so I cannot make some solid conclusion based on such short experience. So I am very cautious...
Let us try to make some objective and reasonable judgments in order to get a more comprehensive picture of the, let call it this way, "the real N95":)
Having read a lot of opinions here (I am following them from the beginning of the year) I would try to draw some of the main groups of problems giving some general or specific comments on cons. Also to point out not only the weak points but also the strong and "innovative" features.
(Because it can obviously be seen that the majority of posts here are totally opposite - one are saying "this is the best phone I have ever had", while the other are saying - "this is the worst phone, dont buy it".)
So let’s group the points of interest like this
1. Battery life; 2. The 5 MP camera; 3. Video; 4. The phone hangs; 5. Problems during a call; 6. GPS; 7. Music; 8. Display; 9. Robustness of the design
1. Battery life.
The disappointing battery life was expected. In the posts from January-February a very few guys were reporting the phone should be charged daily or even twice a day; because only few had the chance to use the pilot release and because the rest were dazzled by the specs of the phone and eager to get some kind "Lord of the phones" (there were such expression in a post here).
Nevertheless, having the experience with N80, everyday charge is something very boring. Especially after elapsing the first one-two months when the delight of using such a complicated device is gone.
The second battery partially solves the problem but still you have to pay to much care for that - always to have the spare battery charged, to replace batteries when the one in the phone is drained.
The other approach is to restrain from playing with the wifi browsing, or shooting videos if you are on the move during the day and cannot plug in the charger. In a moment you start asking yourself - does the phone serve you or you serve the phone?
Or there are some “tricks” to prolong the batt life - disable 3G, or reduce wifi sensitivity, or not to shoot to much, or not to listen to the music too much, or not use the GPS, etc - well, why should you buy such device if you do not use its features? Someone here were giving the example with Ferrari - they say the Ferrari consumes too much fuel but still it is a Ferrari - ok the comparison is not that correct. Fuel consumption is not the analogue of the power (battery) consumption though both are related to energy; here the issue is the USABILITY OF PERFORMANCE – a “fuel hungry" Ferrari is giving its full performance to the user, but a “power/battery hungry” phone cannot deliver its potential to the user because it simply cannot last enough to give the overall performance to be consumed (“overall” means all features, not use only gps, or use only camera, or only make voice calls).
If you have a Ferrari, would you close it in the garage and drive it rarely “on last Sunday of the month” or would you enjoy it everyday as much as possible - if you are happy with the speed and acceleration, etc of a standard car, why should you go for a Ferrari? Right?
However let’s gulp down this problem and take it for granted that we cannot have normal battery last in a “multimedia” N-phone (“normal” is something between 3-5 days; or at least firmly over 2 full days (48 hours), regardless of usage of the features, OK?).
Of course some will say - well you have all-in-one device, so how could you expect longer time? OK, to that statement I would oppose the above mentioned question - do the phone serves you or you serve the phone? And what is better, to have 10 separate devices that are giving their full performance, or one single device combining them but giving you just one feature at a time of all these 10? Is it a kind of philosophical question?:) – no it is a technical question - the device should support all the features it is designed to. Again with the car analogy – the car should perform as a car despite of whether you dirve it in the summer (hot) or in the winter (cold), or whether you drive it in a sunny day (no light, heaters, fans, etc) or in a rainy evening (with all electrical stuff switched on), Right?
So, in the end, there is no excuse for the poor battery life.
2. The 5 MP camera.
It is clear that a phone camera will never be at the level of the current dedicated cameras. So wheter it is 5 MP or 3.2 MP, it is almost the same. Further more, it is welknown that Nokia still cannot reach the quality of the SonyEricsson competitors in the mobilephone cameras. So do not expect the unexpected in this area. No need to go deeper in the subject, everything is clear I think.
3. Video
Here I think we should give the deserved for the phone. The feature of VGA video shooting is very very nice. Again to expect hte quality of dedicated videocamera is irrelevant. But compared to the CIF and QVGA resolutions in previous phones, the VGA video in your phone is quite usefull and handy.
4. The phone hangs
Well this should be precicsely specified when it hangs. We cannot expect this phone to behave like a computer, desipte that it is equipped with a 330 MHz processor. At the time of the 300 MHz Pentiums we had not have so rich multimedia content, right? In my N80, I couldn't open a pdf or doc bigger then 800-900 KB. Here we also have 64 MB RAM, of whic about 20-22 MB free (as far as I saw when played with a N95).
Here may be the ad "a multimedia computer" plyes a bad joke for the users - remember this is not a computer, so do not expect to perform like a PC (how often your PC hangs when running some big or complex stuff? for me, relatively often the Windows Media Player or Real Player hang when starting a movie).
But the bad thing is that the phone realy behaves slow when opening the images/videos. that is something that I definately observed in my short test with the phone.
5. Problems during a call (Noise or fuzz or buzzz or whatever during a call)
That is a serious problem (if present). I have not noticed it but saw several posts about it. So pls say how many of you have noticed it in your phones.
6. GPS
The chipset in N95 is a Texas Instruments one, not a Sirf III or RFMD, or not even a Sirf II. So do not expect to have the performance of them. Here the real problem is in the time to wait for lockon the satellites. Waiting over 3-4 minutes makes the GPS a thoughtless feature. Lot of people complain they were waiting 10 or even 15 minutes for "satellite signal". (Me personally could not start the gps at all ...).
The other "problem" here is that the phone could not use the built in GPS receiver with third party navigation programs. On the phone I played with, I used a Holluv Sirf III GPS and connected it via Bluetooth to N95 and it worked perfect with TomTOm6. But why is the built in GPS chip than?
Concerning the maps of "over 100 countries or so" - the idea of having all the info accessible from a app like smart2go in the Nokia is very good. But still it is not yet fully-usable worldwide (apparently). But still it is a very good idea so let us be more patient and understanding.
So about the GPS we may want a lot of improvements, both in the phone firmware and hardware and in the info database from Nokia.
7. Music
Playing music is better than N80. About the sound quality - I expected much better from the "stereo" speakers. But if you plug in good earphones (not these coming with the phone) it is absolutely ok. Again do not expect this device to sound like your home stereo.
8. Display
Notably worse than in N80 - we have larger screen with smaller resolution in N95. It is obvious when look on the very nice data given in the gsmarena.com review:
Nokia N95 40 x 53 mm 240 x 320 pixels 3,623 pixels/cm 2
Nokia N80 35 x 41 mm 352 x 416 pixels 10,204 pixels/cm 2
9. Robustness of the design
Some people, also in the reviews, it is reported of noises when sliding the slide, or when pressing the buttons on the slide. This is something that was present in N80 too. But in N80 also the battery door on the back was loose, something that in N95 is amended. WHen we have a slide, it just could not be as robust as the bar.
If you were not bored in reading all this, I would ask you to help in trying to expand the list of problem groups. In this way we can justify reasonably and get a clear overall picture of "the real N95" and not just to say - this is the a "crown", or this is a "rubbish".
Is it just me but my N95 battery is barely lasting 24 hours between charges. And before you ask no I am not constantly on the web or using the GPS. If it's this bad on normal standby how will it perform when I do use those other functions?
To the guys in the US, will this phone be supported by the Cingular/ATT 3G?
Is 3G in USA 850 or 1900 rather than 2100?
Does this phone support only 2100 which is 3.5G?
I am kind of confused about the whole thing, can some body help please.
one more thing if N75 did not pair with my 2006 BMW 750. will it pair with n95? or I should I stay with Motorola or Blackberry?
Don't tell me to upgrade the the car's software because it's not possible according to BMW. thanks
I am happy to see some really good people come here in the forum to help each other. I was also right that there are 10% retards who come here to swear and bitch, cause their teenage dreams arent fulfilled. Please lets keep it clean here and help people as much as we can.
To the person who asked about livetv on n95, go visit Womworld.com/nseries and readt the articles they tell you about livetv through wifi. It works great.
About the phone being availble in Canada, yes its available widely, through Pacific mall or goto your local dealer. PLEASE make sure to test it so you dont buy the buggy ones with lose slider.Seems like most peoples problems are individual phone based, I have had no issues whatsoever, the new firmware costs nothing, you can do it over the internet and it stabilizes the phone a lot. Anyways I testd 3 out before I bought mine so I got a good one. Please try it out and do your research about what to look out for.
Cheers hope that helped.
p.s. when you get the phone first time please dont use it right away charge it for 24 hours or so let it load up, it makes me battery perform better. Small tips that might help for the long run.
I have got a N95 and its not good
BUT ITS GREAT.
The computer reinvented... it cannot even read office files. It's slow, crashes and costs too much. It's 'bout time that Nokia starts working on the quality instead of the quantity. The complete Symbianseries from Nokia show loads of problems and are often returned.
It's really unbelievable it still gets a 9+ in the ratings... that really has nothing to do with the quality...
no the sliding mechanism on this is not the one on n80...this one got a magnesium spring in it...
i m using this fone from last 3 weeks now, it hang so much and other person cant hear me at all. i have already exchanged my handset 3times at the end i replaced the handset with XDA orbit.
To those who say "phone keeps turning on and turning off", i've had the same problem everytime i use the extra battery that i received as a gift in buying the phone. Using the original Nokia battery I don't such problem.
To those who say firmware upgrading cost them $$$, well if your phone is covered with Nokia warranty, upgrading is free.
Is the slide mechanism of this phone is the same as Nokia N80?
I don't like how the N80 slides..
Thanks in advance
RM-159 MCU SW v11.0.026 is no good and wish id never bought the fone,,,its made the riging profile quiter and its creating problems trtying to open file it just keep crashing or going back to the screen where you select gallery again

I am mobile tester and i will give you advice dont buy this phone you will do the bigest mistake in your life, problem is about the program which must be upgraded but upgrading cost 150$ you take your risk
yes yes yes i finaaly have it in my hand my dream machine been waiting since it was introduced a while ago. now i am still learning. but not many have it in canada yet.
personaly i think that the phone is fat. its features are fantastic but the phone's design could be alot better.
RM-159 MCU SW v11.0.026. This is the new firmware update for Nokia N95. Has anyone tried the update. If yes then does it really have improvements. Request Reply. Rohan
hey mobster, this is fo you..anyways..u mention canada. r u from canada??does the gps work? and wer did u buy ur n95???
considering the amount of functions this phone has it should have had a 520mhz processor + a load more RAM.Ok you can argue that symbian is a small os and dosen't need extra resources but hey it would solve a lot of probs-might need 2extra batteries though!
