N96 doesnt have 3d acceleration?! Common nokia then its meant to be an update do n81, a n81 overpowered, cause it cant be an update do n95 without 3d card.
looks like a nice mobile, but it dosent do it for me....same "old" stuff...when are we going to see S60-touch??
I own an N958GB. The N96 with its 16GB is very welcome but I expect the battery to be a flop... like in the case of the simple N95. So maybe you should wait till a new N96+ comes out before you decide!!! It will go like this, believe me!!! Otherwise you will bite the dust like those who went for the N95...
If only Nokia could improve the N96's battery life... and make it slimmer... It's still a huge brick in contrast with other similar phones... Nice specs, though!
@ Steve J
Thanks for the complement.
Nokia actually did address all requests for the Nokia N95. They replied with two models. The Nokia N95 8gb and the Nokia N82.
The Nokia N82 offered enhanced features Nokia users requested: card slot, xenon, non slider form, RAM, increased battery capacity, etc. Naturally adding a card slot and a bigger battery increased the size of the phone.
Nokia noticed an unsettling trend... New hardware... Bigger battery... Even bigger phone. As time goes on, more and more technology will be introduced to the mobile world.
I ask you, is the solution to newly introduced technology slapping in a bigger battery each time?
For many the question is "Yes!" Well if that's the case, I guess sooner or later we all will be sporting the size of the first cell phones, the TRUE brick.
Nokia is only company to recognize and address this issue. Thus the Nokia N96.
Replying to the flash comment, maybe you're not just grasping the concept. High-current LED flashes are just as good, and in some cases better, in terms of light energy than their Xenon flash counterparts. THE MAIN ADVANTAGE IS SIZE. Don't forget the advantages of high current LEDs used in video recording mainly battery consumption. But I'm sure you and other people's solution will be a bigger battery. Same old cycle.
In addition, the key to clear pictures is Light Energy - the total amount of light that fills a camera's pixels during image-capture time. Light power, along with flash exposure time is used to calculate Light Energy: light power (lux) x flash exposure time (secs) = Light Energy (lux.secs). Ten to fifteen lux.secs of Light Energy is ideal for high-resolution pictures. I suggest you re-read my posted article and pay close attention to the expose times of xenon compared to high current LEDs.
The sole and only purpose of a digital camera is to take pictures. Size isn't a factor so yes xenon is used. Last time a checked, this isn't a camera site. So stop comparing a DIGITAL CAMERA to a MULTIMEDIA DEVICE.
Still no document editor?? LAME!
This phone has everything its like all the nokia phones put into one the only thing thats new is the OS and the 16 gigs im guessing its gonna lag as well 2 much programs got put into this phone and looks plane the should'v made something new
Good old nokia, take 2 phones n95+n81, put them together ! what do u get ? n96 genius.
ALL.
I enjoin everyone to read MR. YING analysis of the N96 which clears all ambiguities.
I don't like reading people contributing to this GSM ARENA complaining of battery and design. Simply put: Different designs should not be miscontrued to ''a single design''.
No battery is expected to last more than ONE day with heavy use. S.E. battery is not better than NOKIA battery. S.E. will tell you that their battery last 9 or 12hrs. This can be true without using at all. I use both Nokia & S.E.
Over and above, in every ten people with Mobile phones, Nokia accounts for 60 - 70%. This places NOKIA above other phones. The reason is not far-fetched.
@ nTJC
If your god SAMSUNG is so great than why Samsung is using operating system made by Nokia SYMBIAN S60 is the registered of Nokia Corporation Nokia connecting people is trade mark of Nokia that's written on your SAMSUNG i450, i550, i420 etc. By the way N95 was first dual slider phone N81 has first such appearance NOKIA 7650 the phone with digital camera was world's first slider phone which is 6-7 years old
Are the borders of this phone made from steel?
Anyways good phone. Want it one for myself this Diwali.
explicit copy off i 450 & F400 Samsung!!
Nokia has nothing to Show further!
If the battery is not improved, this phone, which looks brilliant, will bite the dust!
I have suffered with the pathetic battery life of Nokia N95.
It needs to be in touch with the capacity of the phone.
to yaing.ok nokia lead, but tell me why in n92 was 1500mah battery .answer for me is only one-stingy.i'll never by phone under 1500mah battery again.
Nokia seriously has got some work to do
as Ying as Steve J
Nokia needs to do!
surprisingly nokia has presented a superb h/s,actually i dont have words to say about N 96,its a cool handset with all the features anyone wish for.In simple terms NOKIA ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
it's amazing
is it support ngage
i love n95 8gb just for this
Ying you are certainly a smooth talker! The fact of the matter is that all the majority wanted to be added to the N95 8GB was a microSD card slot and lens cover. Nokia addressed the former but not the latter. It is curious why Nokia repeatedly fail to conduct market surveys before production. It was obvious that many would be disappointed with the absence of a memory card on the N95 8GB because it cripples flexibility. Nokia now correct a mistake that should never have been made.
As for the flash; distinguished makers of compact digicams do not agree with you. They continue to use mighty Xenon flash. Remember that Xenon flash travels further than dual LED. Furthermore better quality pictures are attained. Consult with professional photographers.
As for the battery this optimisation has to be seen to be believed! Even after tweaking the software there is no way 950mAh will be enough to run battery draining applications such as DVB-H. Nokia have placed form before function. These people have to be responsible and thoroughly test that battery in this N96 with the demanding customer in mind. It should last a day with heavy use.
look at HP iPAQ 910c, it has a 1840mAh battery!
this phone totally rocks. It comes from the n81 design n has 16GB. total 24GB of memory with memory card
well...this phone is like SAMSUNG i450.. but i450 is cool than this phone..N96 copied the style of the i450..wel, its nokia's choice.to copy their competitors design and style.. :)
