Wow! I couldn't believe that you guys are loving this phone. Or maybe you're loving it because you have no choice but to! LMFAO! UI is so so boring.. It's a good choice trading my N97 to HTC desire! You'll definitely love it!
Overall, I really like the phone. The slide out keyboard makes typing quite easy for someone used to full-sized keyboards. The pointer controller helps when trying to click on a link on a crowded page without having to zoom in.
This is my first experience with using a touch screen. I find the touch screen interface easy to use. It is quite handy when driving and I have to activate my Ovi mapping software to get around traffic backups. My only criticism of the touch screen is that when I have to drag my finger across the screen to scroll or move a card playing solitaire, I have to use my finger nail. If I simply use my finger tip, it doesn't seem to register that well. I can swipe with my finger to answer a call while the screen is locked, but scrolling doesn't work that well with my finger. Swiping works fine with my finger, but dragging needs either my finger nail or some stylus-like device such as a retracted, ball-point pen.
The phone has a proximity sensor, so if your face is pressed against it on a call, you won't press any buttons by accident. When you take your phone away from your face, the screen appears again. On a call, you will have call related buttons showing like hang up, etc.
The contact list has a voice recognition feature. I find that it works most of the time. Sometimes, it misses. I've only used voice rec on two other phones and those phones were three years old. The N97 is better than the other two in terms of accuracy.
The latest firmware upgrade is a must. Prior to the upgrade, the UI was rather sluggish and the swipe to answer feature hangs the phone after the call. Also, the ring tone seems to change from time to time. After the upgrade, the UI was much, much better and I did not encounter any of the problems I had before.
The latest firmware upgrade caused my email widget to stop working. I eventually had to download it and install it again. This was a minor glitch, but it took me several days to figure this out. Other than the email widget, nothing else was affected by the upgrade.
Other than the little bit of growing pains I had with the N97, I am very happy with it after the latest firmware upgrade.

Hw's da keyboard?i think it looks terrible, i min da one on E90 is just better!
rubbish battery life... keep lookin for plug points.. gottu carry phone along with its charger... remarkably handy,,, hahahahahaha
sachin tendulkar, 07 May 2010it wd b better if n97 is given to me as man of the match awardYou have to EARN the man of the match first !!
n97 sucks! as I have mentioned few months ago, this will be the worst phone ever made by nokia. Good thing i've waited for the N900. Too sad for you guys who own n97. Ebay is 1 click away anywayz. ^_^
Find that it freezes up if I try to use it too fast and/or have multiple apps opened. Phone requires patience!!!
Otherwise, it is a fantastic device. It carries ALL my music so I can listen to it wherever I am, takes great photos and uploads with one touch to my facebook page, GPS with the FREE naviagtion software is an awesome must have, hi speed internet, hard QWERTY keyboard a great and preferred option, and Nokia messaging is great for working when I'm out of the office. Just brilliant!!!! Not to mention all the high quality games that are available on it. So fun I'm addicted! lol
Overall, tech freaks prob wont dig this phone, but if you're a simple consumer like that wants an all in one device, this phone is perfect. Love it.
BTW check out my eBay page if you would like to purchase my ipod, digi cam, Navman gps or my old phone. I don't need these anymore, lol
seriously, i have this phone and the initial firmware was terrible.
so, after an update to the latest release the touch screen works 10 times better, the scrolling and calibration are tighter and more precise and many of the issues like charging, shutting on and off and loss of installed apps have gone away.
the videos play nicely, music is great. camera is ok for a cam phone but is trumped by sony's quality and features.
i had an iphone and this is just a more useful phone. i can do more with it, the keyboard is great and if you compare usefulness this phone is just a better all around. it doesn't have the eye-candy of an iphone but i got tired of that 3 weeks after having my iphone and was a bit annoyed with the limitations and lack of security.
seriously go with either a nokia from the company with the highest sales in cell phones or go for a sony ericsson who has the best innovations.
absolute rubbish phone.worst nokia ph ever and iv had plenty.selling mine getting an e52 instead its practical and fun.
Mido, 06 May 2010Please I need help
On the specification for this mobile RAM : 128 MB
But when i checked my ... more72.7mb is like the storage area.
There is a 50mb partition used as RAM.
Total of about 128mb.
My N97 is already loaded with 56mb of software data, leaving 16mb free.
You can always do a *#7780# to reset the phone memory cache (temporary memory space). But remember to backup your data before doing the above.
i love my nokia n97 but it sometimes stop working and i can't find a good aplication to download in ovi store like app store please help!!!!!!!!!
am so happy to learn that am not the only one going through these problems My N97 is just pure useless from bettery to screen every thing just freezes i dont know how many times the stupid thing froze while a call was coming through soooo imbarassing people think OMG she cant even answer the demn thing.....Nokia hambe wrongo this time
To be honest WORST PHONE IVE USED. Doesnt charge proply got that fixed then started turning off and then couldnt turn it back on. Took it to the repair shop twice now and is now currently at the repiar shop. Very slow, freezes quite frequantly and battery doesnt last for long. Only reason i like it is because of the keyboard.
hey, be warned of fonkong!!.
i have seen a nokia n97 with dual sim & tv.
the poor owner tried to install the gprs & intarnet settings but vodacom did not recognise the fone
some1, 10 May 2010i have the nokia n97 and its really gd but it keeps turning off!!! my freind bought it aswell... moreHow amazing...I thought there was something wrong with my phone only & that I was just unfortunate to get a faulty one. I have exactly the same problems with my phone & I just bought it last week. Charging is a problem & the screen would just lock, causing me to lose calls as well. But yeah! I still love the phone :) So I guess I wont be taking it back
