Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Comparing profits of Apple, which makes ipods, iphones and computers to Nokia, which almost exclusively makes cell phones is not really fair, don't you think? The fact remains that Nokia is still the worldwide best seller of mobile phones, as they have various devices to meet different needs and budgets. The iphone is great in its own right, but not everyone can afford it, and it will not meet everyone's needs (eg. power users).
I've had this phone for a month and while I'm happy enough with it, I would caution others thinking of buying it that they need to be patient with getting to know the phone. The main caveats are: 1. The c drive memory of about 80mb was a gross oversight from nokia, but there are some things you can do to customise the memory (eg. uninstall unnecessary apps from c drive and reinstall to mass memory). 2. The ram is disappointing for a flagship and the phone could be faster. 3. The overall user experience is probably not as smooth as on other smartphones (eg. you need one or two more presses than necessary to perform functions). 4. The ovi store is poor and while you can get apps from other developers that aren't on the ovi store, there are some issues with having to 'sign' apps before being able to install on the phone (which isn't really a device problem but rather more to do with the symbian os used). Personally, I haven't had any issues with bugs, no 'memory is low' errors, and no scratched camera lens problem. It does lag occasionally, but imo that's to be expected if you want a phone that acts as a mini computer. The phone's never crashed or locked up on me, and in the month that I've had it I've had to restart it 3 or 4 times due to lagging or a frozen app (though other apps and functions were still working). So imo if you have the patience to get to know the phone then I think you'll be happy with it, but if you don't then it's probably best to look elsewhere.
For those who don't have the time to read the Review done on this phone by the GSMArena Team, here's what I can tell as I have this phone:
The Camera is great although it doesn't have any fancy features like Face Detection but I can say it qualifies to make 'great' pictures.
To those who complain of the phone being slow, crashing and all. Make sure that the software you are using is V12 and not the original V10 as it is quite buggy. I'm sure that many of those who have had this phone and sold it within '1 week' had it with the original firmware. So my advice to those who'd buy this phone tomorrow or whenever, make sure u upgrade to V12 for you to be able to experience what this phone has to offer.
I sure hope I help many with this info.
mark, 19 Oct 2009hi all wanna buy n97 but i`m afraid if its nt tht good, any 1 could tell me his opinion abt it ... moreIt really depends on what you expect from your phone. I would say that the main negative points of the phone are that it could be faster (imo nokia skimped too much on the ram) and i wouldn't recommend it if you're a power user. The original firmware that it was released with was very buggy and unstable, but the latest v12 firmware fixes the instability issues, and we should be getting a major update later this month. Other downsides imo are that the user experience on the phone isn't quite as good as on other smartphones, and the ovi store is years behind apple's app store. As for the plus sides- i like the phone's keyboard, the expandable memory, multitasking (though i dont have more than 3-4 apps open at once or else the phone lags), customisable home screen and the video quality is great (although it should support more codecs eg. avi). As for the resistive screen, i used to prefer capacitive technology but i now prefer resistive. Yes you have to apply more pressure, but it's responsive and being able to use my fingernail or pen comes in very handy. You should probably go to a store and try it out before you buy. I did, and have had my n97 for 3 weeks and am very happy with it.
will mace, 19 Oct 2009I work in a phone shop in the uk and it is the most over rated over priced phone that i have s... moreOut of curiosity, of the n97s you sell, how many customers, on average, come back for repairs or to make complaints? Just curious. And are the handsets you're selling on the latest v12 firmware?
khan, 19 Oct 2009because i heard from someone that camera is not good it has a fault.......??the design fault was on the early handsets that were released. the lens cover was mounted too close to the lens and it scratched it. nokia have sinced fixed this problem so if you were to get one now you shouldnt have any issues. the picture quality is good.
Let me tell you something people. If you treat your phone like a piece of shi*t don't be surprised if you find schratches or damages on your phone. It's a delicate thing and it needs to be treated properly. I can't believe how one said that stylus damaged the phone??? Hello?? I have the phone for about 3 months now and all in all I'm satisfied with it. It could be faster but it's ok. I have no schratches, not one single thing on my lense nothing.. I do carry it around in a bag because I have in mind that it's a phone not an indestructable object..
i print pictures taken outside i was impress in a sunny day ... and maximize on the screen of my mac is not bad ,for a good picture quality they need a camera like nikon n 90 .... for emergency pictures is good all around
good in the broad light decent in inside and very fast transfer off pictures to my mac book or ritz picture trough bluetooth... i m happy with it
mohammedarfa, 19 Oct 2009guys please buy this phone it is wonderfulis this mobile's camera good or bad bro.........????
please reply soon........!
i think that n 97 is well rounded as a smart phone just for a decent camera ,good wifi, fm transmitter and i use this in my car by plugging my mp3 jack in nokia s cable the one with mike on it and the mike in the phone and there you have all your calls in the speakers off the car and your voice in the mike which is hung on my collar . so you can play your music wile driving and take calls in the speakers just like parrot bluetooth device 300$ valued with a cable from radio-shack 12$ or so... by having the option to type and use the touch screen is nice and with the new upgrade of nokia in soon which organize the memory a bit better the touch screen experience is gone be better and just the fact of owning one that not half off the country have is gonna make you special because everybody have a iphone even kids....

I personally own a...well used to own a Nokia N97...after a week, VERY DISAPPOINTED! I don't know if it was ME or what? The phone was lagging like a piece of...eh...you know what I'm about to say...I guess I just have high expectations for HIGH PRICED PHONES...When I bought it, it was like around 700-750. WASTE OF MONEY! Sold it 2 days ago...MINT CONDITION never dropped it ONCE, and the stylus is STUPID because it scratches up the silver rim SOO easily. My opinion is save your money, buy a cheap phone you can use for now...wait for the release of HTC HD 2 or the next gen of iPhone Coming out in June of 2010...HTC is a very fast growing brand...Like..my friend had one...I've never heard of it...then a yr later...WOW, they AMAZED ME with all the technology they've put into it! HTC DREAM even has METAL DETECTOR?!?!? That's CRAZY! Lets see iPhone DO THAT!
Back to N97...The camra lens is easily scratched...Laggs, but once you get used to it..(like a week into it) the keyboard is ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD! Easily to txt with...I've never been a txt person until I move outside of service provider area and I had unlimited txt...lol. So I went for it..It's really easy to txt, keypads are really to remember where it is, but this one button always confuses me..the arrow that points to the left top corner, it's located at the right bottom corner of the keypad. It sometimes gets me stuck in # mode...and I gotta retxt a few words...
After sharing my EXPERIENCE with you guys. My conclusion is I regret buying it, but good thing I sold it for a good price. Save your money, wait for the successful launch of HTC HD2 or iPhone 4th generation (Probably called 4G or something, since all the companies are getting into 4G)
Thank you for reading my FIRST GSM ARENA REVIEW.
I work in a phone shop in the uk and it is the most over rated over priced phone that i have seen. i hate selling it nothing good about it
