What maps are available to download? Do I need to unloavk the maps?
For garmin mobile xt, I have to unlock the maps:(
Answer to Syed's question:
It's not of low quality or fake if the label says "made in China or Thailand or whatever country. It's only because of the cheap labour in those countries. If Nokia made their phones in Finland, well, we'd have to wait for a gazillion years for the prices to reach our budgets, hehe. But be aware of the Asian versions though, they may not work with all carriers and they sometimes leave features away. :(
Nokia of course can make the n97 better! By putting xenon and 600mhz 256ram, capacitive screen
they just don't want to go far ahead o their competitors
nokia + intel+ Microsoft + capacitive+ new symbian foundation os -2 = unbeatable
stevie, 15 Aug 2009i had a n95 with it, it was the worst phone ever i returned it 3 times, got it sent away 4 tim... moreN95 was and still is a great phone for me.
Some people just dont know what firmware updates are.
Mobilemaster, 15 Aug 2009Well, you are right in some points, the camera quality is a shame(only 5MP, Satio 12MP!!!), sl... moreIf the camera quality on this is a shame then why were the pics on n97 better then omnia hd with a 8 meg.I gave a link a while back showing this.
Btw in my opinion n97 is not slow, but very responsive and loads internet pages faster then my n95 which also wasnt slow!
syed, 14 Aug 2009hi friends i just bought this phone yesterday online i received it 2day but it says made in ch... moreThere are two types of N97. We have the China made originally BUILT from China which is original China as they call it. But there is also N97 made in Finland originally made in Finland. The specs are more than the China made. Shops usually asked if you buy N97. "do you need Finland or China" Because China is now authorized to sell under Nokia license. It is up to the BUYER which Nokia do you really want to have, meaning which is good for your pocket. But definitely, Nokia Finland is more on application and other exucutions. We knew that China imitates, but they have the licence to produce or manufacturer. NOw is all up to the BUYER. FYI, N97 Finland is 2,400.00 and N97 china is 2,000.00 See the difference?
But one thing for good, as I have seen it and using it for the last 3 weeks. If Finland N97 compared to iPhone. I prefer to have the N97. iPhone is good in public because a bit expensive, good in Games, and other application, but your pocket does not stop wasting the money until you need to install or dwonload in iPhone. iPhone is useless if you do not have those applications BOUGHT from the shop and installed. Lets say you buy iPhone in 2,600 Saudi
Currency, the tendency is that you will spend more because there is no application ready to use in iPhone. And you will never be enjoyed if you do not have original iTunes for downloading, etc. complicated to use even. But if you go for Nokia N97, you will have it ALL at no extra cost after purchase. Browsing, internet, games, applications no limit, name it. no Bugs, no hang ups,..just run the CD (from purchase) to your pc, .. BINGO, everything is accessible. hi-Tech? Yes, even GPRS, name it, it's all there. That's why a lot of people are trading in their iphones (like me) in the nearby shops and switching to Nokia N97.
Anonymous, 15 Aug 2009Utterly disappointment...... Nothing special..... User who used N95 before will know.... N97 i... moreWell, you are right in some points, the camera quality is a shame(only 5MP, Satio 12MP!!!), slow CPU to 32GB internal memory, the N96 was a failure too!
just asking, 15 Aug 2009is it true that Nseries are slow? please tell me... coz if not i may buy this fon. thankxNot really, but this is slow! The internal memory is 32GB, and the CPU speed only 434MHZ! The N86 is not slow, and that has a better camera.
what about this photo Manager for mobiles: http://work.shpe.ro/?id2=00030011 (works on 5800 and probably on n97)
video demo here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDJPBnSv0wc
-multi-touch alternative for single-touch mobile devices (zoom/rotate/pan controls)
-chaos order (thumbs allover the screen, like a pile of real photos thrown on a table)
-photo grouping (make groups, add/remove photos to groups)
-autoscroll when drag photos
-autosave custom arrangement (groups and photo arrangements)
-only photos loaded (from folder images/camera)
i had a n95 with it, it was the worst phone ever i returned it 3 times, got it sent away 4 times and after 1 and a half years it shat itself!!! me and 2 of my friends got one and we all had the exact problems!!!!!!!!!!!
is it true that Nseries are slow? please tell me... coz if not i may buy this fon.
Anonymous, 14 Aug 2009if i buy the n97 in october would the phone already hav firmware v11 and v12 if not do i just ... moreYou should be able to do an update if you buy it now. Just use the nokia software updater no your pc.
syed, 14 Aug 2009hi friends i just bought this phone yesterday online i received it 2day but it says made in ch... moreDepending on where you buy the N97, it will say 'made in Finland', 'made in china' or 'made by nokia'. These are all genuine N97 phones, that is of course if you buy it from a reputable Nokia dealer. It's easy to tell any china copy, they look like crap! The chinese can copy many things but it's all junk made by inferior materials etc, I was in china a few months ago and saw and iphone copy, I could tell straight away that it was a copy, I've also seen the 6300 copy in the Philippines, yet again it was so easy to tell just by the cheap and utterly crap look of it and the screen layout.
Newbie, 15 Aug 2009I have some questions about the gps
Listening to radio via built in fm radio receiver doe... moreThe first time you use nokia maps, after you accept the license agreement, it will ask if you want it to go online at start up, just select No or never and it will use the preloaded maps.
You can change it in settings later if you want.
You can do map updates using your PC so you don't use mobile data.
I have some questions about the gps
Listening to radio via built in fm radio receiver does not cost me a cent
but listening to radio via the internet radio application costs me some money
does the using gps receiver costs me money? Is it a must to subscribe unlimited data plan in order to use gps? Help me with this please! I am new to gps on nokia phone

Utterly disappointment...... Nothing special..... User who used N95 before will know.... N97 is just an N95 with larger screen, touch interface, QWERTY keyboard and dual LED flashlight. The dual LED flash ruins ur photo totally at night. Nokia is NOT improving AT ALL. How sad.... Regretted getting this phone.
