This is just to inform you that I have finally gotten a phone that out performs the SE P1. I took delivery of the Nokia N97 and was very impressed with its functionality and user friendly interface. I am a Sonyericsson diehard but after returning my Xperia after a couple of days of use I went back and bought another P1. I was going to wait for the Satio (Idou) but I am quite pleased with the N97. There is no comparison with the iphone, the iphone is just a toy.
Anonymous, 29 Jun 2009the final version of firmaware does not include the landscape on screen qweryty keyboard, only... moreThanks for the heads up! I would have found that keyboard useful so hopefully It will be included in a firmware update..
The touch screen is so difficult to use compared to the Iphone, Nokia cannot use the gestures of the MAC OS therefore it is so clumbersome to navigate, stick to little mid range phones Nokia, do not try to compete in an area you do not have any know how.
I just got it after listening to a friend, this is pure junk, the interface is impossible, I am going back to the Iphone
Very slow with horrible interface, maybe in ten years they will catch up to Iphone if and when they will develop a proper user interface and navigation software
keep on trying Nokia
i am the proud owner of my N97. Its just 2 days since I got it, thanks to Nokia Priority Dealer in my town who called me up to tell that only 3 sets have arrived and I grabbed the one. Well, what to tell about it.
Its just awesome. everything works fine. A few improvements and it will make Iphone a history.
Dual Touch, Louder Speakers, and a Scroll Wheel on the longer side near the volume buttons will make it a perfect device.
What is the difference between the "Nokia N97 32GB Multimedia Smartphone White Unlocked US Version" and "Nokia N97 Multimedia Smartphone White Unlocked Import Mobile Phone"? I don't see the different features of the two versions, but the non-US version is more expensive.
Sometimes when i unlock the phone, the backlight doesn't come on. The screen is working, but there is no backlight.
I need to lock and unlock again and the backlight will be on again.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Many Nokia 5800xm owners are wondering if the N97 is worth the upgrade. The price difference between both devices is about $300 depending on where you buy. For instance Amazon.com has the 5800 for $289.99 right now while the N97 is going for $654. Below I will briefly talk about some of the main differences between both devices.
Touch Sensitivity & Responsiveness
If you’ve ever owned the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic or played around with one you’d know that the touch sensitivity is not very good. I currently own both devices and the touch experience is like night and day. The N97 is closer to the iPhone sensitivity, a lot more responsive and smooth. This for me was extremely surprising, I didn’t expect the N97 to be that sensitive. Even some iPhone buddies are jealous, saying their device is TOO sensitive, but the N97 was just perfect.
The N97 has a lens protector for the camera.

The Web Browser
The Nokia N97 has kinetic scrolling in the browser just like the iPhone. I really wish the entire interface was like this, rumor has it that it might be coming soon to the Contacts list. The Nokia 5800 does not have kinetic scrolling in the browser which is a huge bummer. The browser of the N97 is also much faster and more usable. When a web page is loading the N97 browser automatically switches to fullscreen while the 5800 keeps the navigation bars on the side. You must manually put it in fullscreen mode. It’s up to Nokia if they want to add this in a firmware update.
Both devices run on Symbian S60 v5 and are much alike. The homescreen is much different, the N97 having the option of homescreen widgets or blank, while the 5800 allows you to have favorite contacts communications on the homescreen, blank, or four shortcuts. I would give the N97 the advantage because it’s so customizable. Just check out the N97 homescreen widgets page here at the blog to see what you can do. Besides the homescreen just about all other aspects of the user interface are exactly the same.

suggestion foe nokia
making the widgets resizable and flick scroll within the widget, more pages of widgets, more official themes preinstalled, kinetic scroll replace scroll bar in menu and list and icon menu, let me flick scroll wwhile the web browwser is still loading!
ipod interface like music player.

Anonymous, 29 Jun 2009iTunes is a lot better than PC suite.
You can add any music you want to it from any source.... morenokia pc suite can synce music and you can downlaod and play mp3 right on n97 without PC!!!
Download Plugin in Web browser is very important to me!!
I used to be a HUGE Nokia fan...when I first saw N97, I thought it would be one hell of a phone. But after I went through the specs...well, lets see...
First I saw it has a 5MP camera...well I thought that would be the best 5MP camera in the market...but hell no!! I found its quality worse than my good old N95 8GB's. The video recording is no different as well. I was even surprised to see N97's other specs a little to no different from my N95's. Well, what d'u expect from a phone that has a touch screen. Those unappealing craps in the menues? No 3D accilerator...a damn processor for a phone of this calibre & pricing. I turned on the music player in my friend's new N97 & went to the gallery leaving it open. I was incredulous to see that it took almost 10 seconds to open & my friend hardly loaded 4GB of its huge memory. The menus are so boring looking for a touchscreen phone, the widgets are so ordinary & availability is limited yet. No Divx or Xvid support. Divx is the most populer format through net & people won't want to download things & wait hours converting for a phone that they've bought for such a hefty price tag. & getting 3rd party application for a cost is worse after spending so many already. Then there comes the not too different appeal than the super f**kin and cheap 5800. Where goes the novelty of the N-series...the all-in-one ultimate multimedia computer? It's nowhere nearby N97 considering the current techs and not even that 'box' carrying a crap 8MP camera named N86...I had got a consolation thinking that Nokia will still remain top of the line with a remarkable 8Mp camera. But what I saw in return? A mediocre camera with a 'marketing hype' of 'variable aperture' I'm not telling that the camera is too bad. It takes decent pictures & good enough for some. But there are some unforgivable flaws in that camera. It can't even come close to the image processing algorithm of the very first 8MP camera phone of the market the Innv8. If u dont believe me than go to the N86 review of Gsmarena & zoom the sample photos of N86 & Innov8 to maximum res. & see for yourself. The N86 mixes up colors & the Nokia's typical greenish touch is still there as well which can't be forgiven anymore & being the camera flagship it should have most of the modern features other camera phones offer...but hell no!! Even they are stuck with that ancient VGA video(The quality of N86's is better than N97 though) while we're talkin in D1,HD...there's whole bunch of other flaws I dnt feel the need to mention about these two phones.
I'm fed up now Nokia. So goodbye.
I gonna go with Samsung to buy Omnia HD...The best all-in-one phone available in market. Omnia HD is better than that N97 in every aspect they are not even comparable. Adiau to Nokia.
