The first I can think of that used GPRS was the Ericsson T39 in 2002, before that there was 14.4k WAP.
The N97 is just an updated version of the SonyEricsson P900, a Symbian phone with a qwerty keyboard and a touchscreen.
There is nothing new or groundbreaking on the N97, there are better cameras, faster 3.5G, higher resolution screens, faster processors, more RAM, brighter screens, more sensitive screens, newer operating systems, better video, better software support, better games, again what can an N97 do that an N95 can't?
