Michuzi, 18 May 2009Hi there, I finished my first iPhone App a few months ago, it took half an hour and I sell it... moreWhy on God's earth would anyone even want to SETTLE for an iPhone?
It's trash quite frankly.
No bluetooth music streaming and/or file transfers (video is out of the question)
No drag and drop file juggling
No Flash support inside Safari (where the heck is Opera Mobile for this thing)
No copy and paste
No front camera
No video recording
No video calls
No user replaceable battery
No VGA resolution
No IR port (it's something I take for granted, using my phone as a remote for well...anything just about)
No physical keyboard
No external storage card support (Micro SDHC cards are up to 32 GB now, 8GB is NOT enough these days, especially for a media device)
No voice command (WM devices and even some "el-cheapo" phones have featured this for years now)
No MMS (it doesn't have phone-to-phone MMS, it has phone-to-air-to-phone picture sharing necessitating a data plan)
No Live TV (that doesnt require you to be connected to an app like Orb on your home PC, which defeats the purpose, why would I want to watch it on a dinky non VGA screen instead of just on my home PC when im at home anyways)
No camera flash
No camera zoom
Same old, subpar, 2 MP camera for that matter
Limited video format support
Limited picture format support
Limited file format support in general
Only 128 MB of RAM (cant run many apps simultaneously, new WM phones are getting 256+ MB of RAM, with 220+ MB free on bootup, and with the Appstore opening up and 3rd party apps making their way to the phone, Apple is behind on the times)
Anonymous, 20 May 2009Yup, you're right. N97 isn't the best on any specific areas, but it doesn't lack ANY functions... moreWhat can this phone do that the Samsung Omnia HD can't?
It's got a link to the Ovi store where you can pay Nokia for stuff you can get free in other places.
The Samsung has touch wiz and widgets which do the same as the N97.
No HD video record
No 3.7" AMOLED screen
No capacitive screen
Can't use the keyboard one handed
Beaten to market
What a fail.
Anonymous, 20 May 2009Yup, you're right. N97 isn't the best on any specific areas, but it doesn't lack ANY functions... moreI was looking forward to 3650 realease,,then sharp gx10,,nokia 6630,,then,n73,93,,n95 and so on each time things getting slightly better and now here in may 2009 i am still looking for the perfect smartfone..You say about each fone lacking in one area wether it be in the same make or different make and still these quirks pop up..ITS sacrifice poor cam for good video/music,,sacrifice 2.4 inch screen for bigger keypad,,sacrifice 3g for wi-fi it will be going on in 5 years time..
All this arguing is down to one thing,,each of us is choosing the best of whats available on the market,, NOT what we actually desire...
Mile, 18 May 2009This phone is crap. It turns off all the time!!!!!this is for mile : The phone is yet not released globly n u say thet it turns off???????
are u talkin abt sm other mobile??
Anonymous, 20 May 2009Yup, you're right. N97 isn't the best on any specific areas, but it doesn't lack ANY functions... moreagreed, this is an all in one device. slide out qwerty is definetly an added bonus!
for info - just spoke to vodafone cust servs and this phone will be out in July with them
Anonymous, 20 May 2009if you wanna talk about true perfection, no phone is perfect. But wat i meant was this phone h... moreYup, you're right. N97 isn't the best on any specific areas, but it doesn't lack ANY functions, while Omnia HD does, and all other phones as well. N97 has EVERYTHING, maybe not in top-class, but it's still everything...
Therefore N97 is the best all-in-one device, simply because it has everything. Obviously N97's camera isn't the best, nor the screen, but there's no phone on the market that has a better combo of functions than the N97, especially for the relatively low price (considering the specs).
As for the Apple fanboys, please start working instead of trolling here. Really, you'll NEED the money...
Anonymous, 20 May 2009this phone has full keyboard, so to those who dont use full touch since they text so much, the... moreHTC touch pro and xperia are the first to have a high end phone touch screen full qwerty keyboard not this antique. and you said iphone didnt sell to business men? well 18 million people have it, and in most countries, you cannot buy an iphone if you dont have a credit card. so you think kids have credit cards?? haha LOL!.. business men have!LOL
another thing, this n97 is good if its out last year.
this phone is just an ordinary phone today. all mobile companies will be releasing their second versions of their best phones this year.. the blackberry storm 2, the xperia 2, HTC touch pro2, samsung omnia 2 HD, and possibly the third iphone from apple. so what about your nokia??? their first one still isnt out, and by the time its out other competitors are already out with better specs than n97. so you see nokia just follow the leaders. they are 1 year late to the real best companies. because nokia is all about midrange phones. they are the best in midrange! but far being the best in smartphones.
you've waited and spend much for this phone just to get beaten by other phones this year!!LOL poor nokia fans.
Anonymous, 20 May 2009N97 doesn't need a better camera to be the better phone... But the focus on N97 is far away... moreif you wanna talk about true perfection, no phone is perfect. But wat i meant was this phone has a little bit of everything. Theere's nothing that it truely lacks. It can get the job done from every aspect. Of course it could be improved, but then the price could go up too. For wat it has, it will certtaily be nice.

But the focus on N97 is far away from perfection, but firmware updates might change that.
Midas, 20 May 2009The only thing dat the samsung omnia wins ova n97 is the camera and video n i think processor ... moreeven the camera on the omnia HD probably is as good at the n97. Nokia has a reputation for putting OUTSTANDINGGG cameras in their phones. When comparing nokia's 5 mp camera (in say the n82 or even n95) to se's, lg's or samsung's 5 mp camera's, nokia makes them look like litttle chinese toys. This phone is going to be amaazing. White with mirror chrome higlights... that's perfection.
Midas, 20 May 2009HSDPA 7.2mb/s for the full spec but i'm not keeping my fingers crossed on that they didn't say... more32 GB support was unofficially comfirmed long time ago, but Nokia's site still say "max 16 GB". Are you 100 % sure it won't support 10.2 mbps HSDPA, or are you just saying that it will AT LEAST support 7.2 mbps. Because there are other Nokia phones that support 10.2 mbps, so why wouldn't their flagship model do it?
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Not even this phone will last 11 years, but I guess this will be one of the phones with the longest longevity, beacuse this is Nokia's flagship model for 2009, and Nokia always supports Nphones, even the 2 year old ones.
For example, look at the great firmware support N95 got, and still gets. I'm sure N97 can last up to 5 years, but it will be outdated by then, and I really mean outdated big time.

Big deal? I think if you had an omnia n i had an n97 we should race 2c who could write a txt message or email faster. Wanna bet that i'll win?
Anonymous, 20 May 2009Too bad the N97 is knocked out of it's league by the Samsung Omnia HD which you can buy from O... morethis phone has full keyboard, so to those who dont use full touch since they text so much, the n97 IS the ONLYYY phone in the league. So don't say poor little n97, becuase the n97 is definately number 1 to those who use texting. and in case you don't remember, iphone didn't sell in the corporate and business niche BECAUSE it didnt have a keyboard. so think about wat you say before you say it. Nokia's target is different than samsung's and sony's.
Anonymous, 20 May 200910.2 mbps HSDPA and 2.0 mbps HSUPA, right? Also, can it read 64 GB microSDXC cards (availib... moreHSDPA 7.2mb/s for the full spec but i'm not keeping my fingers crossed on that they didn't say anythin about HSUPA but it does support it. Also it CAN support 32gb microSD but the test units have only demonstrated with a 16gb card
yes i would but i dont like it i want some thing cool like this one but can some one just tell me witch one to get pls cuz i want this phone to last me about 11 years so i dont have to change it again
