OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 teardown video shows how the sandstone back was created

Cyberpunk 2077 game still hasn’t come out, but the OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 limited edition launched in early November. A few units are still available if you want the phone, though if you’re just looking for something to pass the time while waiting for the game, check out this teardown video.

The back is unique. It has the trademark OnePlus “sandstone” look, but it’s just that – a look. It’s actually vinyl applied to the glass and it’s on the inside, so the back of the phone still feels smooth.

Also, the characteristic camera bump is a piece of glass that is attached to the back. It doesn’t have to be this big, it just serves decorative purposes. Once the back is off, the rest of the phone is identical to the 8T.

There’s still a lot to see. Both sides of the motherboard have some high-power chips, so they are covered with thermal paste, then a layer of copper tape, then graphite film. The bottom side transfers its heat to a copper vapor chamber.

The battery is interesting too, it’s actually two cells that share a cable. This is a typical approach for the more powerful fast charge batteries so that both cells can be charged simultaneously.

If you read the news, the OnePlus came wayyy before the Poco M3 was released. So Poco copied from OnePlus there.
