OnePlus Open video teardown reveals titanium screws, some carbon fiber bits

OnePlus Android

At the beginning of this month, the OnePlus Open was put through the now-traditional 'durability test' by Zack from the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, and perhaps surprisingly survived being bent / folded the wrong way.

If you were wondering what structural magic enabled that, today Zack is back with a teardown of the device in question. There is ultra thin glass in between the pixels and the plastic protector on top of the foldable screen.

The back of the display panel is carbon fiber, while the screws in the hinge are made from titanium. There are a ton of screws inside the phone, probably around 80 in fact. The batteries are very hard to remove, as there are no pull tabs. There's more carbon fiber in the hinge as well.

Funnily enough, OnePlus' marketing for the Open vaguely mentions "extraordinary materials" like "titanium alloy, carbon fiber, and more" being used in the Open, without actually going into any more detail. That's either genius marketing, trying to ride on Apple's coattails, or deceptive marketing - or maybe a bit of both? Some carbon fiber here and there, and titanium screws for one specific part of the device definitely don't do a lot for weight reduction - but work wonders for such marketing.

If you want to learn more about the OnePlus Open while it's in one piece and in working order, don't miss our in-depth review.

I hope this site reports the Oneplus 12’s build quality issues, seeing as it was all over every flaw that appeared in the Pixel and iPhone
